Chapter 36: The Scorpion Is Captured

~6 min read 1,062 words

Wang Yadong quickly opened the door and let the Scorpion in; as soon as he entered, Wang Yadong confronted him:

“What are you doing here? Don’t you know you have blood debts here? Don’t you know what happens if you’re caught?”

Hearing Wang Yadong’s accusations, the Scorpion smirked wickedly:

“Why do you assume they can definitely catch me?”

Watching the Scorpion still chatting casually with him, Wang Yadong asked helplessly:

“You braved countless police dragnets to come here just to tell me how bold you are?”

“Of course not.”

The Scorpion sat down and appealed to Wang Yadong’s emotions: “Mountain Cat, how long has it been since we last met?”

Wang Yadong stood up and walked to the bar, recalling: “About five years, I think.”

“Eleven days short of five years and eight months,” the Scorpion quickly corrected.

The Scorpion added hastily.

Wang Yadong couldn’t help but sneer: “Surprising you remember so clearly.”

“You were my most outstanding student. Of course I remember.”

The Scorpion kept recounting their past teacher-student bond.

Wang Yadong cut him off: “You didn’t come here just to chat about old comradeship.”

Traveling thousands of miles, risking his life to return to China just to catch up? Who does that unless they’re bored to death? The Scorpion had piled up countless blood debts in China; if caught, he’d be shot on the spot with no mercy.

The Scorpion chuckled mockingly: “Don’t be so cold. You were still my best sniper, my best assault team member.”

These words didn’t stir any nostalgia in Wang Yadong—they ignited his rage. He roared at the Scorpion: “I’m not a mercenary anymore. I quit.”

The Scorpion sneered: “You really quit?”

Hearing the Scorpion’s doubt, Wang Yadong, wild-eyed, roared again: “Of course I did! I’m done. I’ve severed ties with my past.”

“Severed ties?”

The Scorpion stood up, staring straight at Wang Yadong: “Truly severed? Have you truly cut all ties with your past?”

These two questions struck Wang Yadong like hammer blows. Seeing his expression waver, the Scorpion pressed on: “Look at your current life—you could open any other shop. With your skills, you could earn easy money and live comfortably.”

Here, the Scorpion pointed at the military gear around them and shouted: “So why open a military supplies shop?”

He grabbed Wang Yadong’s shirt and yelled: “You’re still wearing F2 uniform. You can’t change who you are—you’re a perfect soldier.”

Wang Yadong yanked his arm free and roared: “Mercenaries aren’t warriors. I love combat, but I don’t love killing for money.”

“What’s the difference?”

The Scorpion shouted: “Fighting for faith or fighting for money—it’s all combat.”

“Of course it’s different. I’m not a professional killer.”

Wang Yadong immediately denied it.

“But you’ve already done it.”

The Scorpion glared at Wang Yadong with fierce eyes: “Dare you say you’ve never spilled blood?”

“Dare you?”

The Scorpion asked again, staring at Wang Yadong.

Wang Yadong sat down listlessly on a sandbag, then spoke slowly: “If such a day ever comes, I’m willing to face legal punishment.”

The Scorpion covered his face with both hands—he never imagined Wang Yadong would rather go to prison than follow him. Still, he impatiently urged him again.

But all he got was Wang Yadong’s reply: “I won’t go with you.”

Hearing this, the Scorpion stopped pleading and smiled faintly: “Did I ever say I wanted you to come with me? I came just to see you.”

Wang Yadong turned his head away. Brother, you know you’re a wanted man in China—risking execution just to visit me? Do you think I believe that?

Seeing Wang Yadong’s expression, the Scorpion knew he didn’t believe him and had to explain: “I’ve been demoted.”

“Demoted?”

Wang Yadong stared at the Scorpion in confusion. The Scorpion was the company’s top asset—how could they demote someone like him?

“It’s normal. You know I never got along with the board. They stripped my command and sent me to the mainland to serve as a bodyguard for some boss.”

The Scorpion explained why he’d come here. Wang Yadong stared at him, dumbfounded, and asked incredulously:

“You’re a bodyguard?”

Five years without seeing him, and now the Scorpion had sunk this low—reduced to guarding someone who was once his equal.

The Scorpion continued appealing to Wang Yadong’s emotions—but before he could finish, an alarm blared through the room. Both men rushed to the bar and looked out:

Dozens of SWAT officers had surrounded the place. Wang Yadong immediately opened the secret passage and urged the Scorpion to flee. Before leaving, the Scorpion still pleaded:

“Mountain Cat, come with me. They won’t let you go.”

Wang Yadong lowered his head: “I have no blood debts here. Harboring a fugitive won’t get me executed. Just go.”

The Scorpion stared deeply at Wang Yadong and said: “Mountain Cat, I owe you.”

“Go.”

Wang Yadong gestured urgently for him to leave. The Scorpion slipped into the escape tunnel. Wang Yadong immediately sealed and concealed the passage, then sat back down on the sandbag as if nothing had happened.

No sooner had he sat down than SWAT officers burst in. Nie Huaishang, nearby outside, immediately messaged Zhang Chu’an and the others via the group chat:

Nie Huaishang: “Everyone, the Scorpion just escaped through the tunnel. Get ready.”

Zhang Chu’an: “Received.”

Guo Jing: “Received.”

Zhang Xiaofan: “Received.”

Zhang Chu’an fixed his gaze on the tunnel exit thirty meters away, ready to activate Thunderbolt Membership the moment any movement appeared.

Farther away, Guo Jing and Zhang Xiaofan aimed their sniper rifles at the exit. If two figures emerged, they could provide distant fire support for Zhang Chu’an—collateral damage was impossible.

They waited in silence, not a sound among them. Long moments passed until the stone cover in their line of sight slowly lifted.

Ruan Wenxiong had barely stuck his head out when he heard a crackle of electricity. He reached for his gun toward the sound—then collapsed, unconscious.

Looking at the unconscious Ruan Wenxiong, the four felt unreal. It was too easy. They’d expected a tough fight, but Zhang Chu’an had knocked him out with a single Thunderbolt Membership.

As for whether Ruan Wenxiong would wake up soon—come on, he’d nearly been electrocuted to ash by Zhang Chu’an.

Looking at the charred Scorpion, Zhang Chu’an asked Guo Jing and Zhang Xiaofan: “How do we handle the Scorpion? This guy’s slippery—if we blink, he’ll slip away.”
