Chapter 1909: The Girl
The next day, the surgery proceeded as scheduled. Li Hao and his mother waited outside the operating room, their hearts filled with tension and anxiety.
"Mom, do you think Dad will be okay?" Li Hao asked.
"I don't know," his mother said, her eyes brimming with tears. "But we have to trust the doctors. They'll do their best."
The surgery lasted several hours. When the doctor came out, he told them the operation had been a great success and the tumor had been completely removed.
"Thank you," Li Hao and his mother said gratefully.
"It's our duty as doctors," the doctor said with a smile.
In the days that followed, Li Hao and his mother stayed by his father's side, taking care of his daily needs. Although he still needed follow-up treatment, their hearts were much lighter.
One day, while Li Hao was walking down the hospital corridor, he ran into a middle-aged man. The man introduced himself as a relative of another patient. Having heard Li Hao and his mother's story, he was deeply moved and wanted to chat with them.
"I'm an entrepreneur and a cancer survivor," the man said. "I really admire your courage and determination. I'd like to share my experience with you—perhaps you can draw some inspiration from it."
Li Hao and his mother were grateful for the man's sharing. From his experience, they learned a great deal about cancer—its knowledge and lessons. They also asked him for advice on caring for the patient, and these tips were extremely valuable to them.
As time went on, Li Fu's condition gradually improved. He and his wife worked hard to exercise, adjusted their diet, and faced life with a positive attitude. Their experience also inspired those around them, bringing them a great deal of positive energy.
"Son, thank you," Li Fu said gratefully to Li Hao one evening. "Without you and your mother's support and care, I might not have made it through this difficult period."
"Dad, what are you saying?" Li Hao said, embracing his father. "You're the pillar of our family. We'll always support you."
This experience gave Li Hao a deeper understanding of the importance of family. He knew that only family could be the most solid reliance and support. He also became aware of his own responsibilities and sense of duty—to create a better life and future for his family.
In the days that followed, Li Hao began to think about his future. He wanted to find a career that would let him care for his family while also contributing to society. He thought about his interests and skills and decided to start his own company.
He discussed the idea with his mother and received her support and encouragement. He began planning the company's business and direction, looking for suitable partners and employees. Along the way, he encountered many difficulties and setbacks, but he always firmly believed he could succeed.
In the end, his company successfully opened for business. Although there were few clients at first, he believed that as long as he worked hard to run it and expand the market, the company would surely get better and better. He was also grateful to those who had once helped and supported him, including that entrepreneur and his family.
As time went on, Li Hao's career flourished. His company became a leader in the industry, and he became an entrepreneur with a strong sense of responsibility and influence. His family, thanks to his efforts, grew happier and more fulfilled. The business scope also grew ever wider. He and his team kept exploring new fields, developing more outstanding products and services, and winning the trust and praise of their clients.
One day, Li Hao received a special guest in his office—the same middle-aged man who had once spoken with him and his mother at the hospital.
"Hello, Mr. Li, long time no see," the man said with a smile. "I heard you started a very nice company, so I wanted to come take a look."
"Welcome, welcome," Li Hao said warmly. "Our company isn't very big, but it does have its own character."
The man toured every department of the company, learning about its operations and business scope. He was very satisfied and praised Li Hao's company highly.
"Mr. Li, your company has great potential," the man said. "I'm sure you'll achieve even greater things."
"Thank you for the compliment," Li Hao said modestly. "I'll keep working hard."
The man introduced Li Hao to his own enterprise and invited him to attend a business forum. Li Hao was very grateful for the invitation and decided to go.
At the business forum, Li Hao met many outstanding entrepreneurs and industry experts. He learned a great deal from their experience and insights, and gained a clearer vision for his future development.
"This forum is really wonderful," Li Hao sighed. "I've met so many valuable people."
"Yes, this is an important platform for us entrepreneurs," the man said. "We can learn from each other and help each other."
After the forum ended, the man invited Li Hao to dinner together. At the table, they talked about their respective experiences and future plans. They encouraged and supported each other, and built a deep friendship.
"Li Hao, you're a very talented young man," the man said. "I'm sure you'll achieve even greater success in your career."
"Thank you for the compliment," Li Hao said modestly. "I'll keep working hard."
Over the next few years, Li Hao's company continually expanded its business scope and scale. He and his team kept innovating and pressing forward, winning more clients and market share. His company became one of the leaders in the industry.
Throughout this process, Li Hao never forgot his family and parents. He often stayed by their side, caring about their lives and health. He traveled with them, celebrated holidays together, and did his filial duty.
One evening, Li Hao and his parents sat together in the living room watching TV. His mother suddenly brought up the experience of his father's surgery from many years ago.
"Son, do you remember the situation with Dad's surgery back then?" his mother asked.
"Of course I remember," Li Hao replied. "It's an experience I'll never forget."
"Actually, I was really worried about you and your dad back then," his mother said, her eyes brimming with tears. "I was so afraid of losing him."
"Mom, I'm sorry," Li Hao said, holding his mother tightly. "We'll always be by your side from now on." During these years, his career developed rapidly. He earned money to support his family, making sure his wife and children never lacked for food or clothing; he created wealth so his family could live a happier life. His family was the most perfect family in the world—everyone lived happy, joyful days. And his dream was to become a doctor who saved lives and healed the wounded, pulling patients out of their suffering.
On a sunny afternoon, Li Hao stood in front of the mirror adjusting his clothes. Suddenly, a knock came from outside the room. Li Hao walked over and opened the door, only to see two female nurses pushing a cart in.
Li Hao looked at them in confusion.
"Mr. Li, we're here to change your dressing today," the two young nurses said with smiles.
Li Hao was stunned. It had already been three months since he'd last been shot. He had no idea when he'd been injured again.
"What's wrong? Where does it hurt?" the two nurses asked with concern.
"I—" Li Hao was about to speak, but was stopped by the other nurse. She shot a glance at her companion.
"Mr. Li, don't rush to talk." One nurse set the medicine box on the nightstand and pulled her companion over to sit on the sofa nearby.
Li Hao felt the atmosphere seemed a little off, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what exactly was strange.
At this point, the two nurses took out gauze and disinfectant. They divided the work—one treated the abrasion on Li Hao's arm, while the other bandaged the wound on his leg.
"What happened? How did it get like this?" Li Hao asked, enduring the pain.
"It's nothing, just a small thing!" the nurse said with a cheerful laugh. "Don't worry, you'll be healed up in no time."
Li Hao said nothing, quietly watching the two nurses' busy movements. He saw that both nurses' faces were flushed red, like ripe apples. Their eyes sparkled, their manner shy, looking especially charming.
A line of poetry popped into his mind: Peach blossoms still smile in the spring breeze.
Their behavior was strange, but Li Hao didn't press the matter—after all, they were strangers, and there was no need to get caught up in such trivial details.
Half an hour later, the nurses finished packing up and left the bedroom. Li Hao lay in bed resting, his heart growing a little uneasy—he kept feeling this matter wasn't simple. Because in his memory, he had never encountered nurses who showed such an ambiguous manner while treating him.
Li Hao didn't want to overthink it, so he simply closed his eyes to rest. After a while, he fell asleep.
When he woke up the next day, Li Hao was shocked to discover that he had fainted again. And this time, he had been unconscious for a full eight-plus hours before coming to.
He struggled to sit up, feeling sore and weak all over, without even the strength to speak.
Realizing he must have passed out again, he quickly put on his shoes and stumbled downstairs. His mother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast; seeing him come down in a panic, she asked anxiously, "Son, slow down!"
"Mom," Li Hao said anxiously, "call an ambulance. I passed out again."
"You fainted again last night?" Li Mu was terrified. "Go wash up quickly, then eat something. We'll take you to the hospital right away."
Li Hao rushed into the bathroom, brushed his teeth and washed his face, then ate a bowl of porridge. His stomach was already aching with hunger, but unfortunately he had no energy now—he could only force himself to eat some porridge to take the edge off.
"Hurry up," Li Mu urged. "After you eat, I'll take you to the hospital."
"Mom," Li Hao quickly dissuaded her, "there's no need for the hospital. I know my body better than anyone; a little rest will fix it."
"But I'm worried."
"Really, no need for the hospital," Li Hao insisted.
Li Mu hesitated for a moment, then had to compromise.
Li Hao rested a bit at home, then followed his mother to the hospital.
At the hospital, Li Hao began waiting for the lab results. He looked forward to the report, eager to learn his physical condition. Though he already had a hunch, he still hoped it was true.
