Chapter 102: Card Exchange Office
The Old God Nuts is a Fusion Monster from the "Cthulhu Mythos" series, following the Old God Nodens. Though a Fusion Monster, it is only 4 Stars, yet boasts a full 2500 Attack Points.
As a Fusion Monster, it has two effects: once per turn, it can Special Summon one 4-Star Monster from the hand. When this card is sent to the Graveyard, it can target and destroy one card on the field.
Unfortunately, Tiancheng Guang's current Deck has no way to Fusion or Special Summon this Monster.
Perhaps it will never be possible.
Because her Summoning method requires "Special Summoning only when sending Synchro and Xyz Monsters on the field to the Graveyard."
Thus, in most cases, the true application of this card is to send it directly from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard, then activate its effect to destroy an opponent's card as a Destruction Card.
Although Tiancheng Guang currently has no way to directly Summon this Monster, it doesn't really matter to him.
If all else fails, just find a way to send it to the Graveyard—it works fine as a card destroyer.
After all, such cards already exist in Tiancheng Guang's Deck.
What if Fusion Defense accidentally piles up to the Graveyard? Wouldn't that be pure profit?
Of course, it's still a bit difficult now, but if he ever gets in touch with Aleister later, he could use ideas from the "Great Sage" series—there's always a chance it'll become usable.
Moreover, even without mentioning the Old God Nuts, among the thirty Fusion Monsters the Magician Scientist gave him, many are worth using.
For example, the Twin-Cycle Robot and the Dark Magician of the Abyss, both of which are high-quality Fusion Monsters.
Especially the Twin-Cycle Robot!
Seeing this card, Tiancheng Guang felt as if the entire world had brightened.
Although it's a Robot Monster, once added to Tiancheng Guang's Deck, it instantly became the Fusion Monster with the simplest Fusion Condition in his entire Deck!
Two Machine-Type Monsters!
Though its Attack is only 1600, it can attack directly; after attacking, it can transform into a Dark Magician of the Abyss via Sudden Mutation, using the Dark Magician's effect to pay 1000 Life Points to negate a Normal Spell Card—this provides decent pressure during the opponent's turn.
"What an excellent human warrior," the Magician Scientist clapped his hands repeatedly, then arranged several helper Spirits, noting how much Miss Midrash seemed to like instant noodles, and prepared to give him several more boxes.
Tiancheng Guang glanced at Tierra, who enthusiastically nodded her head wildly, then floated lazily behind Tiancheng Guang and told the Magician Scientist, "Restart it quickly—I want to play too."
The Magician Scientist didn't mind and restarted the device, letting Tierra take control.
Watching Tierra eagerly study how to defeat her opponent, Tiancheng Guang shrugged and followed the Magician Scientist to a seat, beginning to chat with him.
To be honest, the Magician Scientist originally had no intention of leaving the Magic Tribe's Village, but Tierra's words stirred some thoughts in him.
Yet, after all, he still had many researchers and employee Spirits under him; as the Institute's Director, he couldn't make such a decision lightly.
So he simply returned to his original idea.
Card exchange.
Hearing this, Tiancheng Guang was somewhat surprised.
The Spirits he'd encountered so far either split their power or directly became cards that followed him—he'd never heard of anything called "card exchange."
After all, Duel Monsters is a collectible card game; it's perfectly normal for someone to want to exchange cards.
For instance, Tiancheng Guang once traded an Electronic Dragon with Marufuji Ryo for an Electronic Revolution.
But remembering that the Magician Scientist had handed out thirty Fusion Monsters at once, Tiancheng Guang understood.
Of course—this Magician Scientist was clearly a Spirit who specialized in collecting cards for experiments; collecting cards was only natural.
The Magician Scientist showed Tiancheng Guang his collection and list; Tiancheng Guang examined it thoroughly, from mediocre Spirits to powerful Monsters—all were present. Some Fusion Monsters had already been given to Tiancheng Guang as "prizes," so they were marked as out of stock, like the extremely rare Old God Nuts, which the Magician Scientist couldn't produce a second copy of.
Conversely, common Monsters with little effect and low Attack—like the Solar Bird, Vermilion Bird, and Flame Swordsman—were plentiful here.
Tiancheng Guang exchanged several surplus Fusion Spells with the Magician Scientist and received one Flame Sword and two Black Flames.
He never traded his own Monster Cards with others: on one hand, Spirits truly existed in this world, so Monster Cards deserved respect—at the very least, he had to trust the other party. On the other hand, as someone with ample experience, he had to prepare for the future—he couldn't discard a Monster just because it wasn't useful right now.
After all, even a one-Star Monster like Magician of the Storm, rarely used for years, had become one of the most common cheat Monsters in the meta after being reprinted as a "Light Attribute Demon-Type 1-Star Monster" in a new series.
His Monster Cards might one day become crucial chain relays—he wouldn't dare lose them.
Moreover, he had large quantities of duplicate Fusion Spells and Trap Cards, which were far more "valuable" to the Magician Scientist than some Fusion Monsters he might have seen—or even already owned.
As for why he specifically added Flame Sword and Black Flame, it was purely for precaution.
Although neither of them had evolved yet, if they ever did and lost their original forms, Tiancheng Guang would have to repurchase them—what a hassle. Better to prepare early and guard against any contingency.
"Hey, Tiancheng Guang, how do you operate this? Tell me quick!"
By the time Tiancheng Guang and the Magician Scientist finished talking and agreed to bring more surplus Fusion Cards next time, Tierra had grown impatient.
She seemed to have reached a "Alien Final Warrior" endgame, frustrated by its effect preventing Normal, Flip, and Special Summons, and urgently called out to Tiancheng Guang.
Tiancheng Guang found it amusing, shook his head, and strolled over slowly, explaining: "You can Set a Monster, then use Forced Transfer to change the situation."
"Huh? You can Set Monsters?" Tierra exclaimed in delight. "Got it! That's so simple—I always wondered why you'd Set Monsters if you could Summon them in Defense Position. Now I get it!"
This world was just too unusual.
Tiancheng Guang shrugged.
Normally, Monsters are Summoned in Attack Position; Defense Position, like Aleister's, was too powerful.
Tiancheng Guang and Tierra played a few more endgames at the Magician Scientist's place; Tierra enjoyed it immensely, until Sanze Daichi called Tiancheng Guang—it was time to return to school. They bid farewell to the Magician Scientist.
"Then, farewell, Magician Scientist."
"Make more interesting games!"
The Magician Scientist chuckled twice, assuring them warmly, like a kind old grandfather, then added that he also collected Fusion Monster Cards—next time they came, he might have new items they could look forward to.
Tiancheng Guang was genuinely looking forward to it: so far, the Magician Scientist had been the one who strengthened his Extra Deck the most, giving him thirty different Fusion Monsters—truly, no wonder he was the second-strongest Monster in history, no wonder he could pay 1000 Life Points to continuously summon Fusion Monsters from the Extra Deck—he was generous with Fusion Monsters.
Tiancheng Guang wandered out the door, hugging several boxes of instant noodles. Tierra glanced at him, saw he could barely stand, waved her hand, and several purple puppet threads materialized, binding the boxes and floating them in the air, letting Tiancheng Guang walk easily to meet Sanze Daichi.
After meeting, they exchanged glances, both seeing satisfaction in each other's eyes.
This Dimensional Trip was neither dangerous nor exhausting—and they both gained plenty. For either of them, it was a major win!
For Tiancheng Guang, it filled gaps in his Extra Deck. For Sanze Daichi, the Mathematician's companionship eased his long-standing criticism of "low Spirit power"—a true relief, naturally making him delighted.
Even more, after today's conversation with the Mathematician, he had already decided his next Deck direction and planned to give Tiancheng Guang a serious challenge this semester.
"Hahaha, I'm really looking forward to it, Ocean!"
"Hmph, wait and see—I'm taking first place in the grade this semester."
"Hehehe, you'll have to beat Wan Wan Zhangmu first—third place~"
Laughing and chatting, they returned to the Dimension Gate, easily stepping back into the human world—and for the first time, they marveled at how effortless the Dimensional Trip had been—when they noticed students sprinting through the school like mad.
"What's going on?" "What happened?" Tiancheng Guang's boxes slowly descended from the air and stacked neatly. Sanze Daichi shouted, but the student didn't even notice him—he lowered his hand in defeat.
"Hahaha!" Tiancheng Guang burst out laughing, making Sanze Daichi's face flush red.
Sanze Daichi, due to his low presence, was always ignored; now even his direct call went unnoticed, leaving him both ridiculous and pitiful. Spotting a classmate from the Fusion Department, he stopped laughing at Sanze and shouted loudly: "Ice Hall! What's going on?!"
"Ah! Light Brother!" The student froze upon seeing Tiancheng Guang, then shouted urgently: "Light Brother, hurry back to the department and find a TV! It's gone viral!"
"Mr. Kaiba has discovered a new dimension with humans—he's calling it the S-Dimension!"
S-Dimension!?
Tiancheng Guang and Sanze Daichi exchanged glances, both seeing shock in each other's eyes.
No wonder!
Again? Another Third Contact!
Third chapter, three thousand words—another day of eight thousand. I'm pretty capable, aren't I?
