Chapter 1946: Ghost Skull Mystery 7

~6 min read 1,163 words

After rushing past at top speed, Lin An lifted his head and suddenly froze.

On the ceiling was a line of red writing, unclear whether it was paint or dried blood.

"I saw this when I fell! I said this system is too unfair to me! As a proper Star-Destroyer, how come I'm at such a disadvantage upon entering? Hey, even weaknesses have their advantages!"

In his excitement, Ju Mo didn't forget to lower his voice, hastily tugged Lin An once, then pointed outside.

"Sixteen seconds left! Kid, wipe it off or what?!"

His eyes flickering, Ju Mo, while seeking Lin An's opinion, flashed a hint of something unusual in his gaze.

As a veteran Star-Destroyer, he knew that in any situation he must ensure he had a trump card. He is currently the weakest, even unable to outrun Lin An. In his view, Qing Kai's gang will surely sell him out; this piece of information stumbled upon by chance might be a lifeline.

However, contrary to Ju Mo's expectation, Lin An gave a slight start, then grabbed him and pulled him up, shaking his head slightly.

"If we keep secrets from each other, we'll only die faster. Sharing it means that even if we die, if they get out alive, we still count as having completed the mission."

Half true, half false, after saying that Lin An began trying to understand the meaning of those words.

He understood Ju Mo's thoughts, but the difficulty of this mission for him was actually more terrifying than what those Star-Destroyers imagined. The earlier failures were likely killed by internal conflict.

Even stepping back ten thousand steps, he has a restart in hand, so he fears nothing about being abandoned.

【I shouldn't have read this book! Damn it! We couldn't possibly imagine something that doesn't exist】

The text is somewhat blurred, but Lin An can sense that fear from between the lines.

Besides being able to tell that the person who wrote this line regretted it, Lin An couldn't see anything more. He even felt the logic was somewhat disjointed.

"Could this line of writing be a mission clue?"

""Don't look"? Meaning that 【this book】 has a problem, and reading it causes the Ghost Skull to appear?"

""People cannot imagine what doesn't exist...?" Does it mean the person who wrote this line thought some things were merely imagination, no, that the things in the book were merely imagination, yet they actually appeared?"

Reacting extremely quickly, Lin An formulated a hypothesis in a very short time.

Before Lin An could say anything else, the next second he saw Ju Mo nod in approval and speak softly:

"We're thinking about the same thing, kid."

"I guess that's it; this should be the first clue, like the opening of some Supernatural Incidents. I don't know if you've entered such a dungeon before, damn it—once this opening line appears, people are bound to die next."

He let out a cold snort; unknown if he'd lost his strength, Ju Mo completely lacked the bearing of a strong Star-Destroyer, cursing under his breath.

"If nothing unexpected happens, I think this Ghost Skull mission can be treated entirely as a Supernatural Incident mission."

"The person who wrote this line found a book, after reading it began to mutate, causing this scene to become a Special Event! Just like those outsiders who love digging up relics, many sudden disasters are unleashed by them!"

"Those creators are just those idiots! Anyway, as long as we find the cause of the Ghost Skull and then flee, we're good! The secret lies somewhere in the whole city; I need to find it myself. You saw that too, right? This damned place is huge, and our strength is so weak."

"So I reckon those who came in earlier are all dead, but it might not be because the difficulty is that high."

"But rather.."

"Too weak!"

Speaking at breakneck speed, Ju Mo's thoughts grew clearer. He isn't afraid of difficulty; he fears not knowing where the difficulty lies! Especially, his situation perfectly confirms this line of thinking!

"Kid! I've actually been thinking that those earlier Star-Destroyers died just because they were unlucky like me! Even...!"

Instantly understanding Ju Mo's meaning, Lin An furrowed his brow slightly and directly took over the sentence Ju Mo wanted to say:

"You mean that last time, a Star-Destroyer died here simply because he couldn't run, not because the difficulty was too high?"

"The first batch of participants were mostly War Stars; they didn't realize they needed to cooperate, so once they realized the Star-Destroyer had become a "waste," they simply abandoned that Star-Destroyer. Maybe even extorted him? But they didn't anticipate that the later information required the Star-Destroyer to interpret it, so they all got wiped out."

"Yes!"

Ju Mo gave an approving glance at Lin An:

"But what's a "waste"? You should say it's legs and brains!"

"War Stars have low cognition, can't understand the info—they're the legs! Star-Destroyers have high cognition but can't run fast—they're the brains! Legs and brains running apart, doesn't that just get everyone killed?"

"So...!"

"So I should bring you along and run, never abandon you."

Lin An somewhat amusedly watched Ju Mo, who had gone in a big circle wildly hinting at himself. This guy's analysis does make some sense, but Lin An can't help noticing that Ju Mo, inside and out, keeps framing the information around himself.

Seeing his little thoughts exposed by Lin An, Ju Mo didn't mind; he merely cocked his ear to listen to outside noises, then fixed his stare on Lin An.

"Right! I can't rely on anyone now!"

"Kid, you should know my reasoning is correct! Your strength is off! I heard the sound of you pulling the window latch—your power is the greatest among us!"

"This further confirms my idea! The stronger you are, the weaker you become here. You War Stars are stronger than us!"

"I'm not hiding it from you either—our relationship with the Creators is bad! Now he doesn't dare to strike at me, but if he discovers this mission might not be difficult, this place is where they'd most likely strike!"

"We two will cooperate! I will absolutely not shortchange you!"

As his words fell, Ju Mo stared at Lin An solemnly, bearing no resemblance to his earlier sorry state. From the moment he realized he was the weakest, he had already planned what to do next.

"Cooperation is fine, but... your concern seems off?"

"If the difficulty really isn't that great, Qing Kai and the others surviving, wouldn't you also come back to life?"

Lin An frowned and asked, keenly sensing that Ju Mo was off.

However, facing Lin An's question, Ju Mo seemed to have prepared beforehand:

"Heh, kid. Rather than entrusting my fate to others, I trust my own choices more!"

"Furthermore..."

"What if the so-called revival is a revival right here?! If our corpses remain here, tell me—what would happen?!"
