Chapter 234: Warship

~10 min read 1,854 words

Those two teams of soldiers had already been lectured and entered the warehouse. After the soldiers entered the warehouse, those troop carriers left.

George looked at Ye Su, completely bewildered. He wanted to ask something, but seeing people inside the warehouse, he didn't dare to speak.

However, they didn't have to wait long before another vehicle pulled up in front of the warehouse. They saw superhumans stepping out of the car, along with researchers wearing hazmat suits.

How could Ye Su not understand? This vehicle was for transporting superhumans, and those in hazmat suits must have come from the research institute.

Ye Su gave George a subtle wink. Taking advantage of a gap, the two crept toward the vehicle. The driver was swaying to a rhythm and clearly didn't notice them slipping into the car.

But what they didn't expect was that two people in hazmat suits followed them right into the car.

The researchers who had just boarded were clearly stunned, wondering where these two had come from and if they had missed someone during the transport.

Ye Su was quick-witted and fast. He rushed up, and before the two could react, he snapped one man's neck with a single hand.

George gave Ye Su a thumbs-up. Clearly, he hadn't expected Ye Su to be so decisive. If they had waited for the researchers to react, they surely would have been exposed.

After putting on the two researchers' hazmat suits, Ye Su pulled the car door shut, and George told the driver to start the vehicle.

They arrived at the experimental base smoothly. After getting off the car, they discovered many others wearing similar protective suits returning to the site.

The two followed the crowd and swiped their ID cards to enter the base.

What came into view was a massive glass dome. Most astonishing of all was the object inside the dome: a giant ship hull stood within the glass.

Looking down along the glass dome, they couldn't even see how deep it went. Both George and Ye Su were shocked by this massive starship; they hadn't expected the United States to possess such technology.

However, the electric sparks flashing across the warship from time to time, along with the large holes in its hull, left Ye Su feeling somewhat puzzled.

Both George and Ye Su were interested in this warship. Its design clearly indicated it was capable of interstellar travel. The sheer value of it would probably require the combined technological level of the entire planet to achieve.

But the fact that the United States had a finished product without showing off left Ye Su feeling deeply worried.

"Hey, which group are you two from? Why are you slacking off here?"

A middle-aged voice rang out behind them, giving them both a start.

They had been so shocked by the giant ship before them that they hadn't noticed someone approaching from behind, and besides, they didn't know anything about any groups.

"Sorry, we're leaving right now!"

"Wait a moment!"

After George spoke, he hurriedly tried to turn and leave with Ye Su, but they were blocked by the middle-aged man again. The two froze in place.

Ye Su quickly thought of a countermeasure in his mind. At this moment, the middle-aged man said, "It just so happens you two look idle. My project is short-handed; come and help me out!"

Ye Su and George hurriedly nodded in agreement. If they didn't agree, wouldn't they just be asking for trouble?

The two followed the middle-aged man into an elevator and arrived at a winding, labyrinthine laboratory. Two corpses in the room immediately caught their attention.

One was an ordinary zombie, and the other was a creature they had never seen before.

Ye Su and George felt a bit intimidated, looking at the half-dissected corpse and the various biological specimens on the shelves.

Everything was testing their nerves. Ye Su thought to himself that this guy might be a pervert.

But since they were already on the pirate ship, it would be hard to run. Ye Su asked with some difficulty:

"What do you need us to do?"

The middle-aged man smiled: "It's not difficult, just help me record some data and assist me in completing the experiment."

As he spoke, the middle-aged man took out a notebook and handed it to Ye Su, then called for George to help turn the corpse and provide instruments.

The middle-aged man explained while conducting the experiment: "Let me tell you, this is a great piece of research. You know about the latest developed evolution serum, right?"

George hurriedly stopped his urge to vomit and pricked up his ears. Ye Su nodded rapidly; it seemed this old man knew the inside story.

"The raw materials for these serums are taken from aliens."

As he spoke, the middle-aged man pointed to the strange corpse on the experimental table. George had been disgusted by the corpse just a moment ago, but upon hearing it was the raw material for the serum, his eyes instantly lit up.

Ye Su immediately thought of the warship outside. Clearly, the United States didn't have this kind of technology, but with such a large warship on U.S. soil, it would be impossible to take it away.

At this moment, the middle-aged man continued: "And evolution relies on a certain substance within their bodies. Unfortunately, this substance is limited, and synthesizing it is extremely difficult."

Hearing the man's words, Ye Su and George frowned. Didn't this mean that once this substance was used up, no new superhumans could be created?

"And I have already discovered a similar structure in zombie bodies. Once my experiment succeeds, humanity will enter a new era."

Ye Su watched the middle-aged man passionately describing his dream, thinking to himself that all he was missing was a halo behind his head.

George, on the other hand, looked at the middle-aged man with admiration and said:

"Doctor, you are truly great. I, on behalf of the Bard family behind me, invite you to visit us."

Ye Su then remembered that George had come specifically for the superhuman evolution serum, and it just so happened that this somewhat abnormal doctor's research was a perfect match.

Sure enough, the two hit it off, their relationship becoming incredibly harmonious. They chatted happily like old friends.

Ye Su, however, looked at the alien on the table, remaining skeptical of the middle-aged man's research.

If this project were truly viable, he shouldn't be short of assistants; how could he possibly need to go out and personally recruit them?

Having copied Hua Yi's pharmacy talent and studied the zombie virus, Ye Su knew how troublesome these gene viruses were; one careless mistake could cause human gene collapse.

Although the alien before them was charred black and curled into a ball, Ye Su could vaguely distinguish that it must have been a humanoid creature.

After George and the doctor chatted, they began the experiment. Ye Su also learned the doctor's name through their conversation: Peter Higgins.

Just as the three were conducting the experiment, the base's top brass was in an uproar. It turned out the driver had discovered the corpses of the two people Ye Su had killed.

"What are you all good for? Letting people sneak in like this. Security is like a sieve. It's fortunate this is only a branch facility."

"Go find them for me, but don't make a scene to avoid causing chaos."

Hearing the boss's instructions, the research institute's security personnel quickly locked onto Ye Su and George via surveillance. However, the headache was that the two were currently in the laboratory with Professor Peter.

And this professor was not someone to be trifled with; even the person in charge of the base had to show him respect. If they really disturbed his experiment, it would likely lead to a direct confrontation.

However, by the time the security team crept toward the laboratory, Ye Su had already slipped out after Peter finished the experiment and checked the data.

George, meanwhile, was acting like a sycophant, guarding the professor and offering constant flattery. However, the professor was frowning at the experimental data in his hands, his mind entirely focused on the experiment, and George's flattery clearly had no effect.

After leaving the room, Ye Su didn't forget to glance at the giant ship in the center. But clearly, this thing was too big to take away, unless he brought people over.

Ye Su wandered around this laboratory—quantum research, plasma shields—clearly, the U.S. research conditions were uniquely gifted. Once they fully understood the starship, it would likely bring about a global revolution.

"Which department are you a researcher in? Why are you wandering around here? Don't you know that researchers not belonging to this project are not allowed inside?"

Ye Su hadn't expected to be discovered. He turned around stiffly.

A beautiful woman with golden hair draped over her shoulders was looking at him with a hint of anger in her eyes.

Just then, the system prompt rang out.

[Name: Celine]

[Age: 26]

[Occupation: Researcher]

[Activatable Talent: Energy Expert]

[Team Compatibility: 96]

Ye Su looked at the panel in surprise. Clearly, he hadn't expected this beautiful woman to be suitable as a teammate.

At this moment, Celine saw Ye Su staring at her blankly without speaking, so she said:

"If you don't speak, I'll hand you over to security!"

After she finished, Celine turned to go find security. What a joke—Ye Su's identity couldn't withstand an investigation. If security got involved, wouldn't he be exposed immediately?

Ye Su reacted and hurriedly grabbed Celine, saying:

"Researcher Celine, let me explain!"

Hearing Ye Su call her name, Celine frowned and turned around, looking at the hand on her arm with some disgust.

Ye Su then realized that grabbing someone's hand upon first meeting wouldn't leave a good impression, so he hurriedly let go of Celine.

Celine rubbed her arm and said with some aversion:

"How did you know my name? What do you want to explain to me? If you don't speak honestly, then go explain it to security."

Ye Su immediately understood. It seemed Celine took him for an admirer. He had to admit, Celine was indeed beautiful.

Ye Su hurriedly withdrew his gaze; if he kept looking, his first impression would be ruined. He quickly thought of an excuse in his mind and explained:

"Actually, I came specifically to find you."

Celine frowned, and her eyes became dangerous. If Ye Su's next sentence wasn't good, he might be in danger of being kicked in the crotch. Ye Su noticed this and hurriedly said:

"It's mainly because I heard you have deep research and understanding of energy science, so I came specifically to ask for your guidance."

Celine's expression immediately turned sour. "Where did you hear that? I am conducting plasma shield research; I have no understanding of energy science at all. Shouldn't you have investigated properly before making up an excuse?"

Ye Su was stuck. Clearly, he hadn't expected Celine wasn't researching energy science. Seeing Celine turn to leave, Ye Su hurriedly blocked her.
