Chapter 64: Visiting Master

~9 min read 1,624 words

Su Qingyue met Pei Huaiye's teasing and dangerous gaze, and her small face instantly flushed red.

She pounded on Pei Huaiye's muscular arm with her soft fists, "What else do you want to do to me?"

Pei Huaiye took hold of her soft little hand, "I'll tell you tonight... Let's go buy some things first."

The two went to the Friendship Store, where Pei Huaiye picked up canned fruit, malted milk extract, and a box of high-quality tea leaves.

Su Qingyue removed one jar of canned fruit, "This is too sweet; it's not good for Master." She then picked out a few jin of large, red apples and bought three jin of oranges, "Master needs to eat more vegetables and fruit."

After buying the items, the two walked together to the residential compound. Seeing the guard, Su Qingyue obediently kept a proper distance from Pei Huaiye and asked in a low voice, "Are we staying at Master's house tonight?"

Pei Huaiye nodded, "Since we aren't married yet, we would have to stay in separate rooms at the guesthouse anyway. Master's place is large, so there's plenty of room."

Pei Huaiye handed their introduction letters to the guard, "I am Comrade Qiu Zhiyang's apprentice, and I have brought my fiancée to visit him."

After the Guard verified their identities, he let the two of them inside.

Qiu Zhiyang was in the living room drinking tea; hearing the knock, he went to open the door.

"Master, I've come to see you!"

Pei Huaiye greeted him with a smile. Qiu Zhiyang's hand, resting on the courtyard gate, trembled slightly, and his eyes grew a bit moist, "Huaiye? Come in quickly!"

Pei Huaiye turned slightly to introduce Su Qingyue, "Master, this is my fiancée, Su Qingyue."

Su Qingyue and Qiu Zhiyang both froze when they saw each other's faces clearly, then looked at each other and smiled.

"So it was you, the little hero!"

"You are the grandpa in the military uniform I met at the bus stop back then!"

Pei Huaiye used his eyes to ask what was going on between the two, and Qiu Zhiyang laughed heartily, "It's a long story."

He led the two into the house and went to pour water.

Pei Huaiye took the hot Water Bottle, listening as his master told the story of how Su Qingyue had saved a little child from a human trafficker at the bus stop back then.

He placed the tea in front of his master and Qingyue one by one, looking at the latter with a trace of admiration, "Little hero, drink your tea."

Su Qingyue gave Pei Huaiye a coquettish glance and smiled shyly, "Master, he is the real hero; he has saved me twice!"

Su Qingyue briefly explained how Pei Huaiye had heroically saved the damsel in distress; her voice was sweet and clear, and her eyes were filled with adoration.

Watching this, a wave of warmth flowed through Pei Huaiye's heart.

Seeing the young couple mutually admiring and loving each other, Qiu Zhiyang felt relieved all at once.

"It's all fate, fate! We were destined to become one family." Qiu Zhiyang looked smilingly at the things Pei Huaiye and Su Qingyue had brought back and chided them, "Just coming to see Master is enough; why bring things? You're being too formal."

In reality, his heart felt warm. He had no children or spouse, he was over fifty this year, his adopted daughter wouldn't get married, and Pei Huaiye lived far away, so he often felt lonely.

Su Qingyue smiled sweetly, "Master, this is only right. How is your health?"

Qiu Zhiyang set down his teacup and sighed, "I'm old and useless. Gout is an old ailment that flares up often; everything else is fine. Huaiye, stay for a few more days this time and keep me company."

After saying this, Qiu Zhiyang looked out the window with a lonely expression, "I don't even know where Lulu has gone. She hasn't been home for several days. Sigh, when people get old, they are easily shunned."

Qiu Lu wouldn't come home every few days, and since Qiu Zhiyang couldn't control her, he eventually just let it be.

Pei Huaiye couldn't bear to see his master sad and comforted him, "Master, Qiu Lu went to our County to find me. She said your gout was acting up, which is why I brought Qingyue to Beijing to visit you."

Qiu Zhiyang finally revealed a smile, "Lulu has a good heart, traveling such a long way to find you. Huaiye, you are both such filial children."

He went to the bedroom, took out a document, and handed it to Pei Huaiye, "Keep this document safe."

Seeing the words "Last Will and Testament," Pei Huaiye's whole body stiffened, and his expression turned grave, "Master, what are you doing?"

Qiu Zhiyang pressed down on Pei Huaiye's hand, "Child, you and Lulu are the only family I have in this life. The Doctor told me that if my gout gets severe, there will be many complications. I don't want to wait until I'm lying in bed unable to move to think about these things."

"I have a little money in my savings book; you and Lulu can have half each. After I'm gone, both of you live your lives well."

Pei Huaiye's eyes turned red, "Master, you are still healthy now, why think about these things!"

Su Qingyue and Pei Huaiye exchanged a look, and she said softly, "Master, you look sturdy and strong, not old at all. Gout can be treated; tomorrow we will accompany you to the Hospital for a comprehensive physical examination."

Qiu Zhiyang knew he looked quite fit right now, but his old injuries combined with his gout always made him feel insecure about the future; his adopted daughter was filial on the surface but didn't have much affection for him in her heart, and Pei Huaiye lived too far away.

It was better to prepare for his funeral arrangements in advance while he was still strong.

Qiu Zhiyang looked at them with fatherly love, "Why are you crying? A man shouldn't shed tears easily. This is a will and testament; you'll need it in the future."

Qiu Zhiyang was even more stubborn than Pei Huaiye, so Pei Huaiye had no choice but to accept the will and testament.

Seeing that it was getting late, Su Qingyue stood up and said with a smile, "Master, you haven't tasted my cooking yet. Shall I go to the kitchen and show you what I can do?"

Qiu Zhiyang smiled and agreed, taking Su Qingyue to the kitchen, "The vegetables and meat are right here; whatever you make, Master will eat!"

Pei Huaiye wanted to help, but Su Qingyue gave him a look and pushed him out, "Go keep Master company and talk."

Gout patients should eat less seafood and meat, so Su Qingyue made a few dishes with vegetables as the main focus.

At the dinner table, Qiu Zhiyang couldn't stop praising Su Qingyue's cooking, "Girl, your skills are excellent."

Su Qingyue smiled obediently, "In the future, you should eat less red meat and seafood, and eat more vegetables and fruit."

"Heh, the Doctor said the same thing."

Su Qingyue explained, "My adoptive mother works at the South City Military Hospital; I heard it from her. Master, tomorrow Huaiye and I will take you to the Hospital."

Qiu Zhiyang was afraid of getting a check-up; his disability and gout left him with no confidence in his own body, and like a child, he didn't dare to answer.

Su Qingyue used serving chopsticks to put food in his bowl, "Master! With Huaiye and me here, you don't have to be afraid of anything!"

Pei Huaiye also urged him from the side, and only then did Qiu Zhiyang agree.

After the meal, Pei Huaiye washed the dishes and tidied the kitchen, then played a game of chess with Qiu Zhiyang before they each returned to their rooms to rest.

Su Qingyue had finished showering and changed into a soft white pajama set. Her skin was as smooth as lard, white, tender, and supple; she looked like a soft, sticky pastry that made one want to take a bite.

Pei Huaiye embraced the petite figure from behind, resting his head gently on her shoulder and rubbing against her affectionately, "Are you tired today? Shall I dry your hair for you?"

Su Qingyue was wiping her hair in front of the mirror; her black hair was soft and shiny. Having just finished her shower, her whole body carried the faint scent of soap, smelling fresh and comfortable.

Su Qingyue smiled coquettishly at the mirror, "I'm not tired. Was Qiu Lu trying to fake a marriage with you just for the inheritance?"

The money in the will was not a small amount, and if the two of them added it together, it would be even more substantial.

Pei Huaiye's eyes darkened, "Yes. Let's not tell Master for now; we'll see how things go when Qiu Lu returns." He dried Su Qingyue's hair, but couldn't find a comb; fortunately, her hair was soft, so he gently parted it with his fingers.

Su Qingyue turned around and gave him a light, airy glare, snatched her hair back to rest it in front of her chest, and said in a soft, coquettish voice, "Have you played enough? I'm already tired."

After she finished speaking, she hugged Pei Huaiye's lean waist and refused to let go.

Pei Huaiye was distracted by the warmth and softness in his arms; his muscles were like hard stones, and he lifted her up by supporting her little bottom face-to-face, his voice raspy as he said, "I'll see to your sleep right now."
