Chapter 65

~9 min read 1,655 words

Su Qianyue loved hugging Pei Huaiye, especially face-to-face, sinking her whole body into his broad, hard chest and listening to the man's powerful heartbeat; it gave her an inexplicable sense of security, a deeply comforting and heart-fluttering sensation spreading through her entire body.

The two hugged for a long time, and Su Qianyue would occasionally rub her small face against Pei Huaiye's chest; before long, she fell asleep, letting out soft, tiny snores.

Pei Huaiye held back until the veins on his neck bulged, never expecting the fragrant, vibrant little woman in his arms to fall asleep just like that.

He smiled helplessly, gently and carefully tucked her into the quilt, planted a series of soft, tender kisses on her flushed little face, and then fell into a deep sleep while holding her.

The next morning, Su Qianyue was woken up by the heat.

In her sleep, she always felt something prodding her; she hummed groggily twice, and upon opening her eyes, she was met with a pair of unusually burning black eyes.

Pei Huaiye's voice was exceptionally deep, "Awake?"

Su Qianyue opened her eyes in a daze, seeing her own hands wrapped around Pei Huaiye's waist, one leg draped over him, the two of them pressed tightly together.

Only when she moved did she realize what was prodding her.

She felt somewhat flushed and embarrassed.

She pulled her hand back and gently pushed against Pei Huaiye's hard chest, whispering, "You're prodding me."

Pei Huaiye's breathing hitched, and he pulled her even tighter; he kissed her reddened ear and said in a hoarse voice, "Mm, be good, let's hold each other a little longer."

Su Qianyue knew Pei Huaiye wouldn't mess around at a time like this, but the thought that they weren't in their own home still made her face feel extra hot.

Pei Huaiye got up to put on his clothes, while she pulled the quilt up high to compose herself for a good while; thinking that after they were married, she could wake up in the same bed with Pei Huaiye every day, she felt both nervous and sweet, her mind filled with sweet and shy fantasies, and she got out of bed slowly with a flushed face, not even noticing she had buttoned her shirt wrong.

Seeing her hair messy from sleep, her little face flushed red, and a silly smile hanging on her petal-like lips, Pei Huaiye thought she was just too cute!

With his heart itching, he walked over, cupped her fair, tender face, and kissed her twice, "You're so slow, you even buttoned it wrong... I'll dress you."

Pei Huaiye was extremely patient, unbuttoning the misaligned buttons one by one, revealing an infinitely beautiful sight.

He paused for a moment.

Pei Huaiye's throat tightened, but his expression remained calm, and he very patiently buttoned the shirt back up from top to bottom.

Su Qianyue lifted her head from the crook of his shoulder with a red face, hearing his voice, which sounded unnervingly hoarse, say, "Alright, let's go."

Pei Huaiye and Su Qianyue took Qiu Zhiyang to the Beijing Hospital for a physical examination; Pei Huaiye ran to register, and then accompanied him with Su Qianyue for each test.

Some examinations required only Pei Huaiye to go in, so Su Qianyue waited at the door. When she went to the restroom, she unexpectedly ran into Song Qingyan, who was receiving an IV drip.

Song Qingyan was holding the IV bottle with one hand and was just about to open the restroom door when she saw Su Qianyue, her eyes turning red, "Qingyue?"

Su Qianyue hurriedly took the IV bottle, "Mom, I'll hold it for you, let's talk when you come out."

After coming out of the restroom, Su Qianyue led Song Qingyan to the outpatient clinic to sit down, "I hear your nasal voice is very heavy; have you caught a cold?"

Song Qingyan looked much thinner; the matter of her sending money to Su Qianqian a few days ago had been discovered by Su Weixin, and the two had a big argument, remaining in a cold war for several days.

Both sons were busy with work, and she didn't want the family to know she was sick, which was why she came to the Beijing Hospital for treatment.

"It is a cold. Why did you come to the Capital? And you didn't even come back to see Mom?" As soon as Song Qingyan spoke, tears were about to fall.

Seeing Su Qianyue reminded her of her biological daughter Su Qianqian's plight, and her heart was suddenly filled with mixed feelings; one was an adopted daughter, the other her biological daughter, both were her own flesh and blood, how could she not feel heartache?

Su Qianyue took out a handkerchief to wipe her tears, "Mom, I'm here this time to accompany my fiancé to visit his master..."

Hearing Su Qianyue say she was about to marry a second-level fitter, Song Qingyan felt another wave of sadness. "What is his character like? Is he good to you?"

"He saved my life in the cornfield."

Without Su Qianyue needing to say more, Song Qingyan knew what had happened.

She held Qingyue's hand and kept apologizing, "Qingyue, Mom apologizes to you on behalf of Qianqian; she was ignorant. But she has already received the punishment she deserved; your father won't let me send her money, nor will he let her return to the city; she has to stay in the countryside forever. Qingyue, please forgive her."

She would find a way to get Qianqian back to the city, but she didn't dare let Qingyue know about this.

As Song Qingyan spoke, she began to cry, "Your father forbade anyone from going to her wedding, and wouldn't let us add a single piece of dowry; it really is bitter for her. I don't know if Shen Xunbao is good to her or not; I shouldn't have let her go to the countryside to suffer in the first place..."

Su Qianyue slowly pulled her hand back; she felt a sense of closeness to Song Qingyan and knew that her adoptive mother truly cared for her and hoped she would live well.

But hearing her adoptive mother speak up for Su Qianqian like this still made her feel cold-hearted.

Su Qianqian had repeatedly tried to ruin her reputation; shouldn't she have to pay the price?

That she couldn't return to the city and had no living expenses was all her own doing! She deserved it!

Su Qianyue kept a straight face and didn't respond; she called over a nurse, "The IV is finished, please remove the needle."

Song Qingyan looked at Su Qianyue's gradually darkening face and stopped talking about Su Qianqian, "Alright, I'll go back after the IV is finished; you go get busy too, and bring your fiancé to the house to sit for a while tomorrow."

Su Qianyue didn't agree directly; she smiled as she saw her adoptive mother to the bus stop, then returned to the hospital to find Pei Huaiye.

Qiu Zhiyang was in the ward undergoing examinations, and Pei Huaiye's anxious gaze was searching everywhere for something.

The moment he saw Su Qianyue, he looked relieved, immediately pulling her to his side and scolding her with a dark face, "Why are you running around everywhere? The hospital is crowded and full of people; what if you were targeted? Did you forget everything I told you on the train?"

Her adoptive mother's words had already made Su Qianyue unhappy, and now, seeing Pei Huaiye and being met with a lecture, she pouted, her eyes instantly turning red, "I'm perfectly fine, aren't I!"

Su Qianyue turned her head away from Pei Huaiye; when Qiu Zhiyang came out after his examination, she raised a smiling face and asked him about this and that with concern.

"The surgical examination results are all out today, and for now, everything looks fine; the blood test items will have to wait another two days."

"Master, it will definitely be fine; let's go, let's go eat."

Accompanied by the two juniors, Qiu Zhiyang was much more cheerful; he ordered four dishes and one soup at the state-run restaurant, "Eat it all, no wasting!"

At the dinner table, Pei Huaiye kept putting food into Qiu Zhiyang's and Su Qianyue's bowls; Su Qianyue ate and smiled, but she wouldn't look at him once.

Pei Huaiye was so anxious it was tearing him apart; when they returned to the room at night and closed the door, he pinned her in the corner and questioned her, "Why have you been ignoring me all day?"

Su Qianyue finally understood: Pei Huaiye was just too overbearing.

Her clear, large eyes welled up with aggrieved tears, and she said righteously, "You were fierce and bullied me! And there were so many people watching at the hospital!"

Seeing the corners of her eyes turn red and her aggrieved appearance, Pei Huaiye felt terrible, and his tone immediately softened, "It's my fault; I won't be like that next time."

He had just sent his master in for an examination today and then waited near the women's restroom for a long time without seeing Su Qianyue come out.

Pei Huaiye had even asked other nurses to help check if Su Qianyue was inside; when he heard she wasn't, he nearly went crazy with worry, running from floor to floor looking for her.

Finally, seeing her appear at the ward door as if nothing had happened, the giant stone in his chest finally fell to the ground; he couldn't help but say a few words, never expecting to make her angry.

"Did something else happen?" Pei Huaiye asked, stroking her hair.

Su Qianyue pouted and glanced at him; she reached out to be hugged, and just as Pei Huaiye pulled her into his arms, he heard a woman knocking on the door, "Brother Huaiye, are you back?"
