Chapter 71: Buying a Car at the Dealership
Lin Meng gave a casual reply, then suddenly, as if possessed, she asked about the herbs.
By the time she came to, it was already too late; she wanted to give herself a slap, having just warned herself not to get too close to Ye Chenjing.
But the words were already out, Lin Meng could only wait for the other's response.
Ye Chenjing was obviously stunned for a few seconds, wondering just how many side businesses this woman had; not selling gold and silver jewelry anymore, now she's selling medicinal materials?
Lin Meng waited a few seconds, hearing no reply, and let out a relieved sigh.
"Forget it, I was just asking casually; no need to trouble you."
Lin Meng now hoped Ye Chenjing would refuse her, so they could have less contact.
Who would have thought Ye Chenjing would take an interest in this.
"No trouble, I wonder what medicinal materials you have on hand? May I take a look?"
Lin Meng hesitated, but then heard Ye Chenjing continue:
"The Ye Family Group also deals in the pharmaceutical industry; if it's a tricky medicinal material, handing it to me would be safer."
He had hinted at this point; how could Lin Meng fail to read between the lines?
Indeed, if it were ordinary medicinal materials, she could just pick them up at any Chinese medicine shop herself; why bother asking him?
After thinking, Lin Meng agreed to his proposal.
They agreed on a meeting place, and Lin Meng set off immediately.
She didn't go straight to the meeting spot, but first went to the car dealership.
Having money in her pocket, she shouldn't shortchange herself; first she needed to buy a commuter car.
She remembered her uncle's family had two cars, a Mercedes-Benz and a BMW.
The villagers rarely saw the wider world; when it came to luxury cars, they only recognized those two brands.
Back then, her uncle bought two luxury cars in the villagers' eyes all at once; when he drove them into Lin Jia Cun, even the neighboring villagers came to watch, making his family immensely proud.
Lin Meng calculated her current savings, knowing more wealth would keep coming, so there was no need to be too hard on herself.
Since she was going to buy, she might as well get a luxury car, to make her uncle's family jealous.
Having made up her mind, Lin Meng headed straight for the imported car dealership.
Every car here was costly; although many people came and went, only a few truly had the purchasing power.
Thus, the salespeople didn't greet every incoming and outgoing customer with a smile; they focused on those who looked wealthy at a glance.
Unearthing potential clients is also a required ability for a competent salesperson.
As Lin Meng just walked into the dealership, sure enough, many eyes fixed on her, but soon most gazes shifted away, leaving only a somewhat shy girl who hesitated before approaching Lin Meng.
"Hello, miss, I'm an intern salesperson here; how may I help you?"
Wang Mengmeng spoke nervously; she was introverted, and in three months of interning at the dealership she hadn't made a single sale.
The quarterly evaluation was about to end; if she failed to receive another prospective buyer, she would be fired.
Seeing the other party was nervous, Lin Meng smiled and said:
"Hello, Wang Mengmeng, right? Could you please introduce us to your latest models?"
At a glance she looked like a fresh graduate just entering society, facing workplace pressure, her smile appearing forced, a strained grin.
Lin Meng didn't make things difficult for her; everyone starts as a clueless novice, and while interns may have limited authority and can't get bigger discounts, at least they're a blank slate, unlike those seasoned salespeople who size up customers.
Wang Mengmeng showed no impatience; even though she could tell this beautiful young lady probably didn't have enough money to buy a car from their dealership, maybe she was just here to check in, take photos, and broaden her horizons.
Even so, she decided to give Lin Meng good service; this was likely the last customer she would serve before being fired.
"Please follow me, miss; our store has recently received many limited-edition models; what are your requirements for a vehicle?"
Lin Meng glanced around; the prominent display spots in the hall were mostly given to limited-edition supercars.
These cars indeed looked flashy and cool, but Lin Meng didn't like low-slung vehicles.
She thought and then said:
"Preferably a car with relatively spacious interior, solid performance, and safety features."
Wang Mengmeng gave Lin Meng a serious answer:
"Miss, the vehicle type you described would likely be an SUV or off-roader, though few girls usually choose such a large model; would you like to reconsider?"
Lin Meng was about to speak when, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a wildly rugged vehicle.
She usually didn't pay attention, but she instantly recognized it as a Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
"How is that vehicle?"
Wang Mengmeng followed the direction of Lin Meng's finger, adjusted her glasses, and began looking up the information.
After a moment, she said:
"Miss, that's the Mercedes-Benz G63 our dealership just brought back, commonly known as the big G, an off-road vehicle whose interior space and performance fully meet your requirements; however, this car is now hard to buy, we only have this one unit, and even the base model's on‑road price exceeds 2.5 million."
Wang Mengmeng finished speaking in one breath and stared fixedly at Lin Meng.
She knew in her heart that this miss wasn't really here to buy a car; few women would buy a big G, and it's extremely expensive.
But she still answered Lin Meng's question seriously, then after thinking added:
"Miss, are you thirsty? Let me get you a cup of coffee and some afternoon tea; our dealership's afternoon tea is free and tastes quite nice."
Wang Mengmeng, adhering to the principle of thorough service, and finding Lin Meng easy to get along with, wanted to do as much as she could to provide her with some perks.
Lin Meng gave a casual nod, and while Wang Mengmeng hurried off to fetch coffee and dessert, she headed straight for the big G.
This car is big and rugged, and when driven out it can also haul some cargo.
More importantly, she recalled that the little brat Lin Haoxuan had once bragged, saying his father doted on him most and would someday buy him a big G to drive.
He also mocked Lin Meng, saying she'd never afford a Mercedes-Benz even working her whole life, and would only ever ride a little donkey.
Lin Meng thought, if she really drove the big G in front of Lin Haoxuan, would this little punk throw a tantrum demanding his parents buy one?
Just imagining that scene was hilarious; Lin Meng could hardly wait.
So she reached for the car door, planning to hop in first to see how it feels.
If it's suitable, she'll just buy it; this car has both prestige and practicality, and buying it would also piss off her uncle's whole family—super worthwhile.
But before Lin Meng could lift her leg, an ill‑timed voice cut her off.
"What are you doing? Didn't you see they put up a sign, no entry unless buying? Can you afford it?"
Lin Meng looked up and saw the person was actually a familiar face.
Isn't this her eldest paternal cousin, the eldest son of her uncle's family who does business outside, Lin Haocheng?
Lin Haocheng obviously didn't recognize Lin Meng; he was dressed respectably, yet at thirty he still looked utterly uneducated.
This makes Lin Meng hard not to suspect that this guy isn't really doing business at all; he's likely just using his father's money to fool around outside.
But after thinking it over, what does this have to do with her?
Fooling around is fine, but not establishing himself by thirty—if he goes back to the village, he'll surely be laughed to death.
Lin Meng couldn't help but want to applaud and celebrate.
