Chapter 1297: Chang'an!

~6 min read 1,180 words

Upon hearing Su Xuan's words and feeling his gaze, Shi Qingxuan could not help but be stunned.

Even though she had seen countless people in her life, she had never encountered anyone like Su Xuan.

Su Xuan's words, while not overly blunt, were clear enough.

Could she really not understand the meaning behind them?

Shi Qingxuan's cheeks flushed slightly.

"Mr. Su is joking."

Shi Qingxuan spoke softly.

Su Xuan smiled faintly.

Just as Shi Qingxuan thought Su Xuan was teasing her,

another sentence from Su Xuan rang in her ears.

"I am not joking at all!"

These words were very soft, and very calm.

Upon hearing this, Shi Qingxuan was suddenly stunned.

……

A land of a thousand miles of mountains and rivers, a city with nine layers of gates; if one does not behold the grandeur of the imperial capital, how can one know the dignity of the Son of Heaven?

A gathering place of culture and artifacts, an imperial capital for a thousand autumns. Chang'an is located on the south bank of the Wei River in the Guanzhong Plain, known as the "Eight Hundred Li Qin River." The Qin, Han, Western Jin, Former Zhao, Former Qin, Later Qin, Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, and Tang dynasties all established their capitals here.

To the south lies Mount Zhongnan, the middle section of the Qin Ling Mountains, with its overlapping peaks and steep, towering cliffs, serving as a natural barrier to the south, possessing the majestic aura of "overlapping peaks overlooking the Wei River, green cliffs piercing the distant sky."

To the north, mountains such as Yao Mountain, Huanglong Mountain, Chao'e Mountain, and Liang Mountain form a winding northern mountain range, standing in distant opposition to the Qin Ling Mountains.

On the vast, fertile plains demarcated by these mountains, the city of Chang'an stands majestically. The Wei, Jing, Feng, Lao, Jue, Hao, Chan, and Ba rivers wind around it like sparkling, flowing tassels of pearls, forming the layout of "Eight Rivers Surrounding Chang'an." These rivers are like veins, providing Chang'an with abundant water sources while imbuing it with vitality. "Qin has been the land of emperors since ancient times"; precisely because of these strategic and economic advantages, Chang'an has been favored by successive monarchs since antiquity.

Qin Huang Ying Zheng used it to settle the chaotic situation of the warring states, creating a centralized, unified situation. By the time Zhang Qian of the Western Han made his two journeys to the Western Regions, opening the Silk Road from Chang'an to the Western Regions and promoting economic and cultural exchange between East and West, Chang'an was elevated to an international city, a link connecting Chinese and foreign civilizations. Its prosperity could only be compared to the Eastern Capital, Luoyang.

After the establishment of the Sui Dynasty, a new capital was created, named Daxing. The Tang Dynasty continued to use Daxing as the capital, renaming it Chang'an, imitating the Han Dynasty, taking the meaning of "long-term peace and stability," and continuously building and expanding it, making it even more grand and magnificent.

After the affairs at Lishan were concluded, Su Xuan and Shi Qingxuan ultimately came to this city of Chang'an. After all, being so close to Chang'an, it would be unreasonable not to pay a visit.

Apart from Su Xuan, several of the five people including Yanfei had also quietly arrived in Chang'an.

However, they were not with Su Xuan.

Because of the tasks Su Xuan had entrusted to them, they were currently using their own methods to diligently explore everything about this world and acquire its knowledge, so as to better complete those tasks.

Su Xuan knew the entire situation of this world, but in order to give his subordinates a bit of a challenge and let them work hard, he did not tell them these things. Su Xuan believed that these people were capable and would find ways to figure out everything about this world and complete those tasks.

Ignoring them, he accompanied Shi Qingxuan as they strolled through Chang'an.

Although Su Xuan's words had given Shi Qingxuan some ideas and changed her view of him, this did not affect her. She did not leave Su Xuan to go elsewhere, but chose to continue following by his side.

The longer she stayed by Su Xuan's side, the more curious Shi Qingxuan became about him.

If, at the beginning, she was curious about Su Xuan's background and the person he was,

then now, knowing his mind-boggling origins, Shi Qingxuan wanted even more to know how far Su Xuan could go and whether he could accomplish those things.

The tasks Su Xuan had ordered in front of the five people including Yanfei were not hidden from Shi Qingxuan.

Not to mention that later, when Shi Zhixuan appeared at Lishan and was defeated by Yanfei, he was forced to submit to Su Xuan and had to help him unify the Demonic Sect.

Chang'an was very prosperous.

This was not surprising; this place was originally the capital of the Sui Dynasty, only renamed by the Li Tang, reverting to its original name.

Emperor Yang of Sui, Yang Guang, was fond of grandeur and pleasure, even building the Grand Canal for his own enjoyment. He had built this Chang'an area to be exceptionally luxurious. Unfortunately, in the end, Yang Guang never expected that he would die in Jiangdu, nor did he expect that all his achievements would benefit the Li Tang.

This prosperous Chang'an ultimately fell into the hands of the Li Tang.

"I still don't understand why you came to Chang'an."

Shi Qingxuan still wore that fake nose on her face. Whenever someone saw her graceful figure and couldn't help but want to see her true face, they would feel a sense of regret upon discovering that fake nose.

Such a beautiful face, yet it had to have such a nose; it was truly a pity.

"Chang'an is the capital of the Li Tang. I intend to help Kou Zhong seize the world, and the Li Tang is the greatest opponent in this process. As the saying goes, know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated. Can I not come early to scout the opponent's intelligence?"

Su Xuan turned his head, glanced at Shi Qingxuan, and said calmly.

"Is that so?"

Shi Qingxuan was skeptical. If it were the old her, she might have believed Su Xuan's explanation, but after what she had seen at Lishan, she dared not be certain about Su Xuan's words.

Su Xuan smiled faintly and did not explain too much.

They found an inn in Chang'an to stay for the time being.

Su Xuan was a pauper and naturally had no money, so the money was paid by Shi Qingxuan.

Shi Qingxuan had no objections to paying.

The reason she was willing to pay was mainly because Su Xuan had said he would take her out to see something that night.

Night fell quickly.

After nightfall, Chang'an appeared even more prosperous than during the day, with brilliant lights, like a city that never sleeps.
