Chapter 314: Socks Fading? (League Leader Xiao 515 Bonus Chapter ×1)
"Is it really just 'a little bit'?" Deng Chaohong asked curiously.
Ji Xiang was also speechless; he understood what Deng Chaohong meant, but this matter was impossible to explain.
"Are you coming to the Outpatient Department with me, or do you want to wander around and get familiar with the rhythm of the department?" Deng Chaohong also felt that his question was a bit off-key, so he changed the subject.
"I'll go to the Outpatient Department with you."
"Let's go," Deng Chaohong said. "We see patients in the Outpatient Department. Thursdays are surgery days, and at other times, I occasionally go out to perform a few surgeries nearby. But our Second Affiliated Hospital isn't like the Imperial Capital or Shanghai; there aren't many people looking for me to perform surgeries."
Ji Xiang listened quietly to Deng Chaohong's words.
"Teacher Deng, I just heard Sui Zhuren say that our department doesn't have emergency cases, but from my understanding, there are quite a few emergencies."
"Heh, what he means is there are no major emergency rescues. Patients who need major rescues have nothing to do with our Orthopedics Department; except for open trauma, they can all wait. In the eyes of the Resident Chief, this is not much different from having no emergencies."
So that was it; Ji Xiang finally understood.
Arriving at the Outpatient Department, Ji Xiang familiarly helped Deng Chaohong write Medical Records. His typing speed was extremely fast, and his medical record writing was quite standardized.
After all, Lu Gang had recently been "exiled" by Bai Chuzhang to Ji Xiang's medical team, and Ji Xiang had learned quite a bit from him.
Deng Chaohong hadn't expected that bringing Ji Xiang to the Outpatient Department would drastically reduce his own workload. He only needed to ask about medical history, perform physical examinations, make diagnoses, and prescribe medication; all the other trivial tasks were handled by Ji Xiang.
Near the end of the shift at noon, Deng Chaohong called the last number.
"Doctor Xiao Ji, are you eating at the cafeteria or going out for lunch?" Deng Chaohong asked casually.
"Either is fine, it's up to you, Teacher Deng."
"Then let's go out and eat; we'll have a simple clay pot pork," Deng Chaohong said. "Liu Zhuren from the Urology Department and Wang Daxiao often go to Peiyang for barbecue. I used to go too, but after all, it's barbecue, so eating less of it doesn't hurt."
"Thinking back to when I first came to the hospital, salaries were still paid in cash. Every time we got paid, we would go to Peiyang to gnaw on a couple of chicken heads; I really miss that."
Just as he was speaking, a middle-aged man walked in, limping.
"Doctor," the Patient sat on the stool opposite Deng Chaohong, "my leg has been hurting when I walk for the past two months. It feels like I've become lame."
"Did you not have this before?"
"No."
"Besides the limp, is there any other discomfort?"
"It feels fine when I get up after resting for a while, but after walking a few steps, I feel my lower back getting heavier and heavier, and then it ends up like this."
Deng Chaohong smiled slightly, "This is called intermittent claudication. Generally speaking, it is caused by spinal stenosis."
Seeing Deng Chaohong's certain expression, the Patient asked, "Professor, is this illness easy to treat?"
"Lie down first, let me perform a physical examination, and then we'll do an examination."
The Patient sat on the examination bed and began to take off his shoes. Deng Chaohong laughed, "Just lie down directly, no need to go through all that trouble."
But the Patient moved quite quickly; before Deng Chaohong finished speaking, he had already taken off his shoes and obediently lay down on the bed.
In an instant, Ji Xiang vaguely saw that the color of the skin exposed between the Patient's socks and trousers was a bit off.
This was only because his eyesight had improved after using the "Clear Insight" skill many times, allowing Ji Xiang to discover this in a split second.
That pitch-black color was so different from the skin exposed on the rest of the Patient's body that Ji Xiang wondered if he had seen it wrong, and that the black part wasn't skin, but long johns or some kind of tight underwear.
"What are you wearing underneath?" Ji Xiang blurted out.
Deng Chaohong was startled and gave Ji Xiang a slightly reproachful look.
What kind of underwear a patient wears has nothing to do with the illness. Although one has to write about skin color and such in a Medical Record, one can't just make a patient take off their clothes every time they see a joint in the Orthopedics Department.
There are doctors like that, but most are called scumbags, *cough cough cough*... Deng Chaohong stopped thinking about it.
However, to Deng Chaohong's surprise, the Patient smiled quite embarrassedly, "I'm not wearing anything. I don't know what's wrong with me lately; maybe my socks are fading, my feet and ankles are all black."
"Oh?" Deng Chaohong didn't want to glare at Ji Xiang on the first day either. He actually valued Ji Xiang quite a bit in his heart; otherwise, he wouldn't have followed Liu Zhuren and the others into Sui Zhuren's office.
"Do you want to take a look?" the Patient asked.
Before Deng Chaohong could say anything, Ji Xiang stood up and walked to Deng Chaohong's side, "Let me see."
"..."
Deng Chaohong felt somewhat helpless.
They had been in perfect sync all morning, but Ji Xiang was interested in this limping patient, and the point he was interested in had absolutely nothing to do with the Orthopedics Department.
"No need." Deng Chaohong vetoed Ji Xiang's approach.
"Xiao Ji, I'll explain it to you in a moment." Deng Chaohong didn't scold him severely like he would with other Standardized Training Students who didn't know the rules, but instead explained it to Ji Xiang gently.
Ji Xiang didn't speak and quietly watched Deng Chaohong perform the physical examination on the Patient.
The physical examination process went smoothly. Deng Chaohong had an idea in his mind; based on the symptoms, it was indeed spinal stenosis, but it wasn't particularly severe.
"Have you had any examinations done?" Deng Chaohong asked after finishing the physical examination.
"I had them done at our local hospital," the Patient replied.
Deng Chaohong glanced over and, seeing that the Patient hadn't brought the films, felt a bit helpless, "Where are the examination reports and films?"
"..." The Patient was stunned for a moment, but then looked somewhat happy.
"They told us back there that if we go to the Provincial Hospital for treatment, we have to redo the examinations, so I didn't bring them up; they're in the car."
"Let me take a look first; if they're usable, we won't redo them, so as not to waste that money," Deng Chaohong said. "Spending money isn't the main thing, the key is that the queue for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging at the Second Affiliated Hospital is about 2 weeks long."
"That long!"
"Go get the films," Deng Chaohong waved his hand, "Hurry up, I still need to go eat after looking at your films."
"Thank you, Professor, thank you, Professor."
The Patient quickly put on his shoes and walked out of the Consultation Room, limping.
"Xiao Ji, why did you ask the Patient what he was wearing under his socks just now?" Professor Deng asked in as calm a tone as possible after the Patient left.
"I saw that the skin color on his feet looked a bit strange."
"You saw it?" Deng Chaohong tried hard to recall; when the Patient took off his shoes during the physical examination just now, he hadn't seen anything.
"Maybe it really is the socks fading," Deng Chaohong laughed. "The Patient has very typical symptoms of spinal stenosis. Let's look at the films first, and then choose the method of treatment."
"You might still be stuck on what your Clinical teachers taught you, or what is written in the books."
"When seeing patients in the Outpatient Department, you look wherever they feel uncomfortable, but if it's a male Patient, that's fine; if you run into a female Patient and demand to look here and there, it's very easy to get a complaint."
"..." Ji Xiang scratched his head.
"This is something you must pay attention to in Clinical practice, did you remember that?" Deng Chaohong looked into Ji Xiang's eyes and asked seriously.
"I remembered." Ji Xiang didn't insist either and nodded.
