Chapter 431: Let Me See If His Foundation Is Solid

~8 min read 1,409 words

After the surgery, Zhai Yuhan went to check on the patients once more.

Seeing that all the patients were stable, she felt a sense of joy and went to the Doctor's Office.

During the surgery just now, Ji Xiang had followed along to hold the endoscope. Zhai Yuhan had intended to let Ji Xiang try it, but Ji Xiang didn't take it, only saying he had never rotated through the Hepatobiliary Surgery Department.

Ji Xiang hadn't left yet and was currently talking to Zhao Mengmeng.

"Doctor Zhao, let me write it."

Zhao Mengmeng was staring at the computer screen with a blank expression and didn't answer Ji Xiang. Zhai Yuhan knew this young woman was in a state of utter bewilderment.

Zhao Mengmeng herself had never been exposed to clinical practice, so many points were a blank slate for her, but she was a Doctor of Philosophy who had been a top student all the way to the pinnacle. Whether conducting experiments or writing papers, she was top-tier.

Zhao Mengmeng couldn't accept that she couldn't do it; even though it was already past midnight, she was still pushing through.

In stark contrast to Zhao Mengmeng was Ji Xiang.

A Standardized Training Doctor with only an undergraduate degree, his conduct was seasoned and sophisticated. He communicated with patients with almost zero obstacles, and his diagnoses always had strokes of genius; even she, a Resident Chief, couldn't fathom Ji Xiang's line of reasoning.

The vast contrast between the two left Zhai Yuhan stunned.

Zhai Yuhan glanced at Ji Xiang, her gaze finally landing on Zhao Mengmeng.

"There's a lot of work today," Zhai Yuhan said. "There's a lot of content scheduled for tomorrow morning's meeting, and the Director will take 10 minutes to go over the medical records."

Zhao Mengmeng's wooden expression became even more unnatural.

"If you can hold out, I suggest you perfect the medical record; otherwise, the Director will be very angry when he sees substandard medical records tomorrow."

Zhai Yuhan paused here, wondering what Zhao Mengmeng and Ji Xiang would do.

If she were Zhao Mengmeng, she would definitely invite Ji Xiang to help her finish part of the work; if she were Ji Xiang, she would definitely take the initiative to help the beautiful top student.

The expression on Zhao Mengmeng's face didn't change in the slightest. "Teacher Zhai, I can do it, I'm not tired."

Hearing Zhao Mengmeng say this, Ji Xiang asked, "You don't need help?"

"No."

"Alright." Ji Xiang smiled. "Then I'll write the surgical record, and if Teacher Zhai could take a look to make sure there are no problems, I'll head back."

"..." Zhai Yuhan hadn't expected both of their choices to exceed her expectations.

However, Zhai Yuhan didn't say much and waited quietly for Ji Xiang to write the surgical record.

Ji Xiang finished writing in 10 minutes, and Zhai Yuhan checked it over.

She discovered that Ji Xiang's surgical record was exactly the same as the descriptions in the Hepatobiliary Surgery textbook, with only slight modifications made for his own surgical process.

Could he have memorized the entire textbook? Zhai Yuhan was somewhat surprised, but she didn't show it.

Ji Xiang refreshed Zhai Yuhan's perception every time; she had gradually accepted this point and subconsciously treated it as an established fact.

"Teacher Zhai, if there are no problems, I'll head back."

"Go ahead, come in early tomorrow morning," Zhai Yuhan said. "Familiarize yourself with the medical records so you don't fail to answer when the boss tests you."

"Understood, thank you, Teacher Zhai."

Seeing Ji Xiang leave, Zhai Yuhan breathed a sigh of relief; this young doctor put too much pressure on her.

This kind of pressure was indescribable. Although Ji Xiang had always been polite to Zhai Yuhan and treated her as a teacher, as long as Ji Xiang was around, Zhai Yuhan would feel very constrained and cautious.

During the surgery just now, Zhai Yuhan's performance had been difficult to describe.

A few minutes later, Ji Xiang's voice came from the doorway.

"Don't see me out, hurry back and take care of your girlfriend."

He hadn't gone home yet, but had checked on the patient before leaving, Zhai Yuhan thought blankly.

From Ji Xiang's speech and behavior, there was not a hint of the awkwardness of a young doctor; he was more like a middle-aged veteran Attending Physician. He spoke to people as they needed to be spoken to, and he could chat with the patients and their family members he had just met as if they were friends.

Zhai Yuhan's mind wandered, from the stubborn patient that neither she nor her boss could persuade, to the gallbladder torsion that had no symptoms when arriving at the ward, and finally to Ji Xiang.

Not knowing how much time had passed, Zhai Yuhan yawned.

Zhao Mengmeng was still working; her speed was extremely slow and she seemed very serious, but Zhai Yuhan guessed this rookie was actually doing useless work.

Poor little thing, clinical practice isn't that simple.

Books only write about less than 10% of the reality; wanting to receive patients and save lives in a clinical setting is impossible without grinding for a few years.

And that wasn't even the hardest part. As the saying goes, understanding the ways of the world is true learning; communicating and interacting with patients is the ultimate challenge, especially in the Medical Dispute 3.0 Era.

Thinking this way was perfectly fine, but that "detestable" figure appeared in Zhai Yuhan's mind once again.

"I'm going to rest, you should rest early too," Zhai Yuhan said, then went to the Duty Room to sleep without looking back.

The next morning, Zhai Yuhan waited for Yang Zhuren to arrive at work and reported the relevant information about the gallbladder torsion patient from yesterday to her boss.

Yang Zhuren thought for a long time, but in the end, he didn't speak, only nodding.

"Boss, I heard that Qin, the boss at Shanghai Hepatobiliary Hospital, wants to take Ji Xiang as his closed-door disciple, but Director Zheng didn't say anything else. Do you know the details?"

Hearing Zhai Yuhan say this, Yang Zhuren waved his hand. "Shanghai Hepatobiliary Hospital, pfft. Their surgical operations are okay, but their interventional surgeries are truly sloppy. Even a doctor like me who only tangentially deals with it can't stand it. Ji Xiang probably didn't go, and he was right not to."

Zhai Yuhan was somewhat surprised; her boss seemed to know about that matter.

"Boss, are you..."

"I heard about it last night," Yang Zhuren didn't mince words and answered directly. "This kid has a big background. It's said that at the Medical University, he even applied for a provincial-level natural science grant. Not the kind of grant where you just hitch a ride; the Medical University built a medical team for him, and the Director of Medical Affairs at the Second Affiliated Hospital filled it with several capable hands."

"!!!"

"It's truly a grand gesture. He's been here for a day or two... In a moment, I'll see if his foundation is solid or not."

Zhai Yuhan wanted to say something but stopped.

Originally, her boss was supposed to review the medical records after the shift handover, in accordance with the program team's requirements.

The boss himself had wanted to refuse; what was there to see in those interns' medical records? They were full of errors, and if thrown to the Medical Affairs Department, they would be Grade C medical records, the kind that could get you sued until you ended up in jail.

But at this very moment, Zhai Yuhan felt that her boss was getting serious.

The boss is advanced in years, and one rarely senses a sharp aura from him. But today is different, and Zhai Yuhan immediately becomes serious.

She must be careful, otherwise, she might get scolded bloody by the boss while he is at it.

……

……

In the Review Room, the guests arrived early.

The signal is transmitted in real-time; they see over thirty medical staff arrive at the Doctor's Office, with the director sitting in the front row in the center, other Attending Professors sitting on both sides, and young medical staff standing to the side, all looking quite surprised.

"There are so many people."

"Is this a meeting? Do they have one every day?"

"It looks truly spectacular; this must be the legendary morning meeting."
