Chapter 535: List One Big Brother
After watching the program, Director Feng of Gastrointestinal Surgery was still not satisfied; he wanted to download it to rewatch the segment of the animation where he performed the surgery.
Director Feng even thought about hanging that animation on the television outside the department, so that every patient and every Family Member could see his heroic posture while performing surgery.
But the demands from one member after another made Director Feng furious.
He asked a young Doctor under him to handle it for him, and it actually took a full half hour to get it done.
The platforms nowadays are truly becoming more and more shameless, Director Feng thought indignantly.
"Director, this segment of you performing surgery is truly excellent!"
"That it is." Director Feng adjusted the video to the part where he was performing surgery and began to praise himself.
Although it was an animation, the light, shadow, and rhythm had all reached perfection; it must have come from the hand of a master.
Even Director Feng himself had not expected that he would look so handsome while performing surgery!
It was handsome, extremely handsome.
As the first layer of light and shadow fell, that spirit of focus and seriousness, superimposed with the memory of performing the surgery, caused Director Feng's hands to move unconsciously.
His fingers tapped lightly, as if touching a tumor floating within the abdominal cavity; the texture and tactile sensation were a hundred times better than anyone else's.
All of this made Director Feng feel as if he had drunk a half-kilogram of Feitian Moutai, intoxicated and mellow.
He had performed countless surgeries in his life, but only this one had provided a different experience.
Director Feng even vaguely felt that his surgical level had soared along with it.
Scrolling through the video again and again, Director Feng watched for a long time until he felt somewhat weary.
"Director, you and Yang Zhuren are the first and second authors on this paper; I wonder if there will be a chance next time," the Resident Chief said with a smile.
Director Feng naturally knew what he meant.
At his level, publishing one or two papers in top-tier medical journals was of little use; that was Ji Xiang's good intention.
But for a young Doctor, the meaning was completely different.
This time, Zhai Yuhan, the Resident Chief of Hepatobiliary, had snagged a third authorship, which would be of great use when promoting later. So it was reasonable for his own Resident Chief to look on with envy.
"There will be opportunities in the future," Director Feng said. "That was the New England Journal; I didn't know about it beforehand either. Ji Yisheng Xiang was too polite; I didn't expect him to list me as the first author."
"It was the surgery you performed, after all; it's only right," the Resident Chief flattered.
Director Feng shook his head.
"I'm tired, I'm going home first," Director Feng said. "Tomorrow, ask Ji Yisheng Xiang to come to the department to sit for a while and talk about the diagnosis of this case."
"Director, get some rest early." The Resident Chief had already made up his mind to build a good relationship with Ji Xiang while the Camera Crew was there.
A New England Journal paper was given away just like that; if it were him, even if the Director wanted it, he wouldn't be able to agree.
There was certainly no harm in interacting more with such a generous young man.
When attending academic conferences, he wanted to strike up a conversation with an Academician, but they wouldn't pay him any mind. Now, this opportunity was practically heaven-sent, though he didn't yet know to what extent he could take it.
"Xiao Miao, I'm heading back," Director Feng said. "You get some rest early."
"You got it!"
After seeing Director Feng off, Miao Zong lay on the bed in the Duty Room, tossing and turning while recalling Ji Xiang.
It wasn't for any other reason; it was mainly because publishing articles in world-class journals was a temptation that was hard for a Doctor to resist.
There was once a joke that the dowry of an older female Doctor of Philosophy was five SCI papers, with the husband's name allowed as the first author.
That was just an ordinary SCI.
Although it was a joke, it reflected a certain reality.
But the gap between ordinary and top-tier was like heaven and earth; if she could produce a first-author paper in the "New England Journal," she probably wouldn't have to worry about being unable to marry.
Ji Xiang was really very generous, Miao Zong thought quietly.
"Miao Zong, a Patient has arrived!" the Nurse shouted.
Miao Zong shuffled out in slippers and saw an elderly female Patient being pushed in on a wheelchair.
"What's wrong?"
"Doctor, my mother has a stomach ache," the Patient's son said hurriedly.
Taking the medical history and performing a physical examination—the whole process took 15 minutes.
The Patient was female, 75 years old.
She came for treatment due to abdominal pain for 1 day. One day before admission, she had a sudden onset of upper abdominal pain, most obvious below the xiphoid process, with continuous attacks accompanied by paroxysmal aggravation; no vomiting, abdominal distension, hematochezia, or shoulder/back pain.
The Patient complained of upper abdominal pain, but during the physical examination, the tenderness at Murphy's point was faint or non-existent, with the main tenderness at McBurney's Point in the right lower abdomen.
Referred pain was one of the symptoms of Acute Appendicitis. After Miao Zong finished looking at the Outpatient Department Ultrasound report and saw that the liver, gallbladder, and spleen were all fine, he felt relieved.
If it had been a young person, Miao Zong would have directly issued an emergency order to take them up and cut the appendix out, and that would be the end of it.
But the Patient's health was not good, with a pile of geriatric diseases, and the Family Member firmly asked if conservative treatment was possible. Since the Ultrasound showed no signs of Perforation and the physical examination showed no rebound tenderness, he proceeded with intravenous Antibiotic conservative treatment.
The night passed without incident.
Early the next morning, the Camera Crew came to squat before work, which made Miao Zong feel somewhat constrained. It was normal for ordinary people to be a bit nervous when facing a camera.
Zhai Zong had told him that the Camera Crew was very annoying and it was best to have minimal contact.
As a Doctor, Miao Zong knew his own mind; his looks weren't enough, so rather than racking his brains to get on camera, it was better to honestly hide behind others.
Being an internet celebrity wasn't that easy.
Without the ability to win over a few List One Big Brothers and provide enough emotional value, which internet celebrity could make it?
As for the List One Big Brother... Miao Zong believed Ji Xiang was one; he was so lavish that he directly smashed a New England Journal paper in one's face.
But the Camera Crew didn't cause Miao Zong any trouble; they stood outside the ward area, following the rules, and waited honestly. They hadn't turned on the cameras either; Miao Zong guessed they were waiting for Ji Xiang.
This popular Intern... The moment Miao Zong thought of Ji Xiang, his heart warmed; that feeling of palpitations came even faster than it did during his first love.
After the shift handover, Zhai Yuhan, Ji Xiang, and Zhao Zhe came to the Gastrointestinal Surgery department.
After giving Miao Zong a few instructions, Zhai Yuhan went back to work. Miao Zong and Ji Xiang stood shoulder to shoulder; he tilted his head, looked up slightly at Ji Xiang, and smiled, "Ji Yisheng Xiang, your diagnosis is truly excellent. The Director has invited you to come and explain the diagnosis; you mustn't hold anything back."
"Not at all, not at all," Ji Xiang said politely, "Teacher Miao, please stop joking."
"Let's add each other on WeChat, stay in touch if anything comes up," General Manager Miao said, taking out his phone.
His hand trembled slightly; what if Ji Xiang refused? Although the possibility of a refusal was not high.
Ji Xiang did not refuse; he still acted like an Intern, took out his phone to scan General Manager Miao's QR code, and the two added each other as friends.
"Doctor Xiao Ji, the Director has gone for a consultation. Come to my Duty Room first, I'd like to ask for your advice." General Manager Miao was even more polite than Ji Xiang; he pulled Ji Xiang toward his Duty Room, preparing to have a discussion with him.
"Doctor, do you have a moment?"
