Chapter 563: Clinical Grading
"Little Doctor, do you have a task or something?" a Family Member said disdainfully. "Don't embarrass the Affiliated Hospital. The district-level hospital near our home lets us go home immediately after a polyp removal. If you're saying the Affiliated Hospital isn't as good as our district hospital, isn't that a joke?"
The Family Member mentioned the small hospital near their home again.
There is a huge difference between the two; at the very least, a lower-level hospital would absolutely not dare to remove a polyp of about 2cm without authorization from above.
"The situation is different." Ji Xiang wore a mask of a smile and continued to explain calmly, "First, there are many polyps, and the trauma is also different."
"Second, the largest polyp is nearly 1cm, which counts as a relatively large polyp."
"Third, polyps themselves aren't scary; the problem is that after they are removed, some polyps have arteriovenous vessels underneath. If that electrocoagulation scab accidentally falls off, it could trigger massive hemorrhage, Hemorrhagic Shock, and other situations, which could kill people."
Ji Xiang counted one, two, three on his fingers, and the Family Member became increasingly impatient. If it weren't for the fact that Ji Xiang was wearing a White Uniform representing the hospital and the department, they probably would have slapped him across the face long ago.
"Director, can we get a bit closer?" Fan Dao's assistant whispered.
"Why get so close?" Fan Dao muttered.
Fan Dao's assistant immediately realized where the problem lay.
After the previous episode of the show, many things had been overturned.
If the Family Member allows it, it can be interpreted through lip-reading afterward; if the Family Member doesn't allow it afterward, going up now would likely result in being left with a bruised face.
After all, the Camera Crew is carrying cameras on their shoulders, and ordinary people have a very special sentiment toward lenses.
"Send another group." Fan Dao ignored the assistant's suggestion, he said in a low voice, but then added, "Don't carry the cameras, it's too conspicuous. Use a mobile phone to record Doctor Ji Xiang's lip movements from further away."
"You there, find an angle and see if you can record the Family Member's lip movements."
Fan Dao was masterminding the operation, but Ji Xiang seemed to have encountered difficulties on his side.
Soon, as the patient was pushed out of the Endoscopy Room, their conversation came to an end.
Fan Dao arranged for people to follow the surgical gurney back to the Observation Room, and cautioned them to only stay far away and absolutely not get close enough to annoy anyone.
Having filmed a few episodes of the variety show, Fan Dao was getting a clearer and clearer grasp of the bottom line.
Especially now that the surgery had just been completed, if he were to bring people up to ask this and that, they might all be met with a fist.
But if the Family Member agreed, then the remaining things would become increasingly interesting.
Gastrointestinal endoscopy, another brand-new field waiting to be excavated; the animations produced should be of interest to many people.
Fan Dao's brain was running at high speed.
As the postoperative patient was pushed away, Ji Xiang did not seem to be affected by the negative emotions of having just been rejected by the Family Member, and chatted leisurely with Shen Ke as they walked toward the ward area.
"Doctor Ji Xiang!" Fan Dao walked over to ask about the situation.
Ji Xiang answered truthfully.
"Doctor Ji Xiang, what about after that?" Fan Dao asked.
"There is no after that." Ji Xiang spread his hands, "We are doctors; we can't force the patient to stay. Doing that would be breaking the law; it would be restricting personal freedom."
"Don't be a busybody; when you encounter similar situations, make sure to get the signatures. Intern Xiao Ji, let me test you with a question." Shen Ke said.
"Teacher Shen Ke, please go ahead."
"When we encounter similar patients, how many levels do we divide our handling into?"
Levels? Fan Dao was a bit confused after hearing Shen Ke's words; he had no idea what Shen Ke meant.
"First, routine signature. If it's judged to be quite dangerous, don't put the signature form in the Medical Record folder; put it in your own locker."
Shen Ke smiled and habitually made a slurping sound.
"Why?" Fan Dao asked.
"Because there have been cases where Family Members came to the Doctor's Office in the middle of the night to take the signature forms away."
Ji Xiang spoke very politely, using "take away" instead of "steal," but the meaning was about the same.
"If my judgment of the situation is even more severe, I will have all the patient's direct relatives found, including spouse, parents, and children, all present to be briefed before signing and pressing their fingerprints."
"The highest level requires relevant personnel from the Medical Affairs Department to be present and to leave behind audio and video records. Doing this is shifting the responsibility to the hospital."
Shen Ke was quite satisfied with Ji Xiang's answer.
There are many things in Clinical practice that a small Intern cannot imagine. Just the detail of locking the briefing documents in one's own locker takes years of grinding in Clinical practice to have enough of an understanding.
That is for those with high Comprehension; for those with low Comprehension, they would never realize the first point in their entire life, let alone the "flashy" operations that follow.
Comprehension is one aspect, and then there is temperament.
If you change to a stubborn doctor, the kind whose temper is so stiff they could knock a dog over if thrown out, they would never learn it in their whole life if they don't encounter an incident.
"Not bad." Shen Ke slurped his saliva and adjusted his mask.
Neither of them seemed to notice Fan Dao's presence, and Fan Dao was also gradually getting used to the setting of always being in an invisible state.
Returning to the ward area, Ji Xiang began writing the Medical Record, chatting and laughing with the doctors in the department, which made Fan Dao, who was standing outside the door with his ears pricked up to listen to the movement inside, feel a fire rising in his heart.
However, it didn't take long before Ji Xiang went to the Endoscopy Observation Room of the Digestive Medicine Department. Fan Dao followed the whole way, but only observed from the outside and did not follow Ji Xiang inside.
"Director, the patient looks fine." Fan Dao's assistant saw Ji Xiang communicating with the patient and the Family Member through the glass wall and whispered.
"It's not a bad thing that they're fine." Fan Dao said.
Before the words had even faded, Fan Dao was slightly startled.
This was not what he wanted.
If considering the effect of the show, a calm and uneventful postoperative patient would inevitably fail to attract attention.
Even with the subsequent animation explanation, it would make the show appear very dull.
The contradiction appeared right here.
Fan Dao didn't know when he had started to change; this change was very subtle, very strange, but it was real.
"Let's watch; if there's no content... we'll just postpone it." Fan Dao said helplessly.
The show's ratings were going higher and higher, and the pressure was getting greater and greater—there's no need to mention such clichés. Fan Dao's mindset, however, had undergone a certain shift—even if it meant postponing, even if it meant constantly breaking promises, he couldn't just slap together an episode to air.
Fan Dao couldn't worry about other things; he could only pray to encounter a similar situation to the one he had met before, and have it successfully resolved in the end, to everyone's satisfaction.
But every time he thought of this, Fan Dao felt very distressed. Where could he find a patient who secretly sneaks out to drink during their hospitalization, suffers a Disulfiram reaction, and experiences respiratory arrest; where could he find a patient who is disheartened and wants to jump off a building while in the hospital?
That is all fate.
Just as he was thinking this, Fan Dao saw through the glass wall that Ji Xiang had taken out a piece of paper and was explaining something to the Patient and the Family Member.
Is the next step to sign, or to press a thumbprint? Fan Dao smiled slightly.
