Chapter 564: A Confident Episode
Contrary to Fan Dao's expectations, the Family Member did not sign or press their thumbprint; they accepted the paper with a complicated expression. Ji Xiang seemed to still be saying something to them, which left Fan Dao very confused.
It was different from what he had imagined; could communication with a patient actually lead a patient and their Family Member to accept an informed consent form?
"Director, what is going on there?" Fan Dao's assistant also looked stunned and asked blankly.
"I guess Ji Xiang spoke about the theory perfectly, but when it came to doing it, he went off track. He was a bit nervous and subconsciously gave the informed consent form to the Family Member," Fan Dao said with a smile.
God forgives young people for making mistakes.
As for Ji Xiang, no matter how well he performs surgery or how rich his theory is, he will always make mistakes when dealing with people.
Fan Dao's assistant's expression suddenly shifted slightly; he wanted to say something, but in the end, he swallowed all his words back.
"You..." Fan Dao noticed the assistant's expression. His thoughts flashed like lightning, recalling that neither Yang Zhuren nor Zhai Yuhan had been able to persuade that patient to undergo the examination.
In terms of communicating with that patient, Ji Xiang had achieved the ultimate; he was incredibly seasoned.
Logically, Ji Xiang should not have made such a low-level mistake.
"Director, this plot isn't working either," Fan Dao's assistant whispered, complaining. "And the footage shot with the mobile phone is very poor."
Fan Dao understood everything he said; the various difficulties encountered in a hospital are simply ten times greater than in other industries.
"Let's hope for a bit of luck," Fan Dao murmured.
Luck.
Fan Dao's assistant found it hard to believe that his own Director would one day pray for good luck.
It was truly hard to imagine that the man who once carried a schoolbag filled with excrement to settle a score with the little thugs on campus would one day have to pray for good luck.
Let's hope for a bit of luck.
Fan Dao's assistant was also praying in his heart.
This program had already exceeded Fan Dao's capabilities, turning a hit variety show into a national-level variety show.
No one knew what would happen next.
However, "good luck" seemed to have arrived.
For the next few days, Fan Dao and the entire crew didn't even have time to sleep; they followed Ji Xiang the whole way and filmed scenes they never could have dreamed of.
Persuading the patient and the Family Member, doing the editing, and contacting the censors to fight for approval.
Fan Dao hadn't slept for days and nights, finally watching the program in a rush 21 minutes before the broadcast slot; the bloodshot veins in his eyes were so numerous he looked like he had pink eye.
"Whew~~~"
Fan Dao slumped in his chair, his whole body radiating endless fatigue.
He didn't want to say a single extra word, and he didn't even want to look at the viewership ratings he usually stared at longingly.
The program was finished, and the viewership rating was just the final result. Fan Dao knew his luck seemed pretty good; at the very least, the viewership for this episode was guaranteed.
He wanted to sleep for a while, but when he closed his eyes, his vision was filled with bright red.
Just like the emergency rescue he saw that night.
The sound of commercials came from his ears; because the program was a hit, Fan Dao had even squeezed out 20 minutes to take on various sponsors' advertisements.
Although the commercials were long, there was always a moment when they ended, and the program officially began.
Fan Dao's mind was a blank slate; he had only one simple and pure thought in his heart—what to film for the next episode.
As for this episode, he wasn't worried about the ratings in the slightest.
……
……
Bai Chuzhang and Liu Zhi, Liu Zhuren, were drinking in a simple, small private room at Peiyang Barbecue.
"Lao Bai, there are more and more commercials in the program. How do you think they squeeze out the time?"
"They have nothing to fear," Bai Chuzhang said. "If the program quality were even slightly worse, they wouldn't dare air so many commercials before the main feature. They are taking up time meant for the variety show itself; it looks like the content of this episode is good, and the production team is very confident."
Neither Bai Chuzhang nor Liu Zhuren doubted anymore whether the program would have a poor ending; they were curious about what content this episode would feature.
The countless viewers chasing the updates behind the internet had the same thought in their hearts.
Even with so many boring commercials, their sense of anticipation had already exploded, enough to support them in gritting their teeth and enduring it.
Liu Zhuren hadn't called Ji Xiang in advance to ask about the program content either; anticipation is a very mysterious thing. He felt as if he had returned to the eve of his first date with a girl he admired in his youth.
That feeling of nervousness and expectation was wonderful, one of the most beautiful memories of his life.
The long-winded commercials finally ended, and seeing the scene of Ji Xiang being taken away by the drooling Zou Zhuren, Liu Zhuren laughed out loud.
"I thought he was going to the Urology Department."
"Your Urology Department belongs to the surgical department with the least presence," Bai Chuzhang stated a truth.
"What are you saying!"
"Speaking the truth, the Urology Department has few emergencies, and apart from Kidney Transplantation, which department's surgeries aren't bigger than yours? A total bladder resection is considered your biggest surgery; you tell me where the presence comes from," Bai Chuzhang said with disdain.
It was the truth; Urology certainly didn't have surgeries as large as Neurology, Cardiothoracic, Hepatobiliary, or Gastrointestinal; after all, there were only a few organs like the two kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, and so on.
"We have few emergencies; they are jealous of us," Liu Zhuren countered in a different direction.
Bai Chuzhang didn't speak; he watched the program curiously.
The scene didn't linger in the Dean's office; in the hallway, Zou Zhuren saw the director of the Urology Department and walked straight up to him, and the two had a "cordial" exchange.
Until Zou Zhuren took off his surgical mask, his excitement spraying saliva everywhere, and "persuaded" the director of the Urology Department, Bai Chuzhang smiled.
"Xiao Ji is awesome!" Liu Zhuren laughed.
"Xiao Ji's head-on confrontation with Qin at Shanghai Hepatobiliary Hospital seemed like overestimating his own strength at the time, but justice resides in people's hearts; you could say there were gains and losses."
Bai Chuzhang gave a very fair evaluation.
Liu Zhuren nodded; he understood what Lao Bai meant.
Although the production team didn't show the footage of Zou Zhuren and Ji Xiang talking, nor did they show Zou Zhuren's inner thoughts, based on the relationship between Zou Zhuren and Li Zhuren of the Interventional Department, and Li Zhuren's favor for Ji Xiang, one could roughly piece together the cause and effect from the many clues.
Recalling the things he had said to Ji Xiang at the time, about sect inheritance and such, most of which were intended for his own good, Liu Zhuren felt slightly ashamed.
It was hard to say whether it was good luck or something else for Doctor Xiao Ji, but Lao Bai's assessment that justice resides in the hearts of the people was correct.
Director Zou affectionately pulled Ji Xiang to the operating room to see the Da Vinci Surgical System, then went to the Endoscopy Room to perform surgery; the camera flashed by, and what followed was the popular animated sequence.
The animation of the polyp resection under the Gastrointestinal endoscope was vivid and lifelike, and the popular science work was quite solid.
Seeing this, Bai Chuzhang let out a deep sigh, "This program has found its own path."
"Even if they can't find any major conflicts in the future, they can still manage to wrap things up by relying on the popular science work," Liu Zhuren nodded.
