Chapter 28: wand

~6 min read 1,096 words

Without a doubt, wands are the most alluring, especially after witnessing the powerful magic of that black‑clad person; they now yearn even more to obtain a wand of their own.

As for Dali, he is somewhat curious about how a wand works.

Given his current abilities, he can wield Extraordinary Ability without a wand, but it must be done in a spiritual language, such as Hermes Language.

Perhaps, after obtaining a wand, he could use English to wield Extraordinary Ability, which would greatly reduce the danger of exposing his identity.

After undergoing the ordeal of the Guiyi Shijie, Dali has become very cautious about many things; even given the current situation, his ability gives him a considerable advantage when facing wizards, but it remains only an advantage.

If he is careless, his current situation makes it very likely for him to capsize in a gutter.

At the very least, a spell that can directly kill a person looks terrifying; when Dali first faced it, he also felt a strong threat.

Therefore, it is very important to conceal himself as much as possible and avoid drawing too much attention.

However, thinking of this, Dali's gaze involuntarily fell upon the frail boy beside him.

He wanted to keep a low profile, but his cousin seems to be somewhat too famous.

"As time passes, everyone should gradually pay less attention to Harry," Dali speculated in his mind; he truly did not want to become the focus of everyone's attention.

"Hahaha."

"As expected, I knew you would choose wands."

Hagrid laughed loudly, leading the two boys toward the wand shop.

"Ollivander's Wand Shop is a wand shop with an extremely long history; you will surely be able to buy a wand that suits you there, I guarantee." Hagrid said while walking, introducing.

"Um, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me... earlier... I treated you poorly before; I hope you don't mind."

As they were walking, Hagrid suddenly said to Dali.

"Ah... it's fine, I don't mind." Dali was thinking about something when he suddenly heard Hagrid's apology, almost failing to react.

"Alright, let's go."

Hagrid was somewhat embarrassed; Dali noticed that beneath his thick beard, his face was a little red.

Obviously, he is not good at apologizing.

"Thanks earlier."

Harry also said to Dali, these words he had never spoken before; hearing Hagrid speak first gave Harry the courage.

"No need to thank me, you're my brother."

Dali smiled.

He knew they were referring to the underground matter.

If he hadn't detected the danger in advance, whether they could still be alive now would be a question.

Moreover, in that situation, while evading danger, Dali never forgot to pull Harry along; no matter what, it deserves thanks.

As for Hagrid, because of this incident, his impression of Dali improved greatly.

The reason he initially had a poor attitude toward Dali was mainly because he heard that Harry's stay at Dali's house was not pleasant, and Dali, this cousin, often bullied Harry, which led him to decide to vent his anger on Harry's behalf.

But after getting to know him, he found Dali to be not bad, and not as terrible as the rumors suggested.

"Alright, we've arrived."

It is a tiny, shabby shop; the golden sign on its door has already peeled off.

Ollivander: began crafting fine wands as early as 382 BC.

"This shop is quite old."

Dali said in surprise.

A wand shop over two thousand years old is indeed impressive; at least in wand‑making, this shop must have some unique expertise, otherwise it could not have stayed open so long.

"Yes, many foreign wizards come specifically to Ollivander's Wand Shop to buy wands." Hagrid said, then pushed open the shop door and entered.

Harry followed closely behind.

Dali walked last, glancing at the various wands displayed in the window; under Spiritual Sight, he could clearly see that the cores of these wands emitted a special light.

"Spiritual material."

Dali thought to himself.

Upon entering the wand shop, a jingling sound came from inside, like the bell that alerts customers in a convenience store.

The shop hall is very small, containing nothing but a long bench.

The most eye‑catching thing in the whole shop is the thousands of narrow boxes stacked high, reaching the ceiling.

Without a doubt, the items inside are wands.

Whoosh.

A ladder slid out from the back hall.

"Good afternoon."

A gentle voice came.

"Hello."

Harry, being the closest, immediately responded.

He was an old man with a full head of silver hair, his eyes a pale color, shining like two bright moons in the dim shop.

Dali looked at the old man, but his attention was entirely on Harry, as if Hagrid and himself did not exist.

"Oh, yes," the old man said, "yes, yes, yes, I know I will see you soon, Harry Potter."

"You have finally come."

"Do you know? Your eyes are the same as your mother's; I still remember when she came here to buy a wand, it felt just like yesterday."

Ollivander walked up to Harry and, as if recounting treasures, spoke of the dimensions of Harry's mother's wand and the materials used to make it.

Then he also spoke of Harry's father.

He seemed to know every wand he had sold inside out; even when noticing Hagrid, he casually mentioned the wand Hagrid had purchased.

"What a pity, when they expelled you, they surely snapped that wand, didn't they?"

Ollivander said with regret.

"O, indeed," Hagrid said, a little uneasy.

Dali's gaze hardened as he glanced at the tattered umbrella Hagrid had slipped into his pocket, as if he understood something.

Ollivander's attention shifted back to Harry, this time his eyes landing on the scar on Harry's forehead.

"I'm very sorry, this is a wand I sold."

Ollivander said softly, "That wand is powerful, but it fell into the hands of a bad person. Had I known it would cause such trouble, I would…"

Ollivander shook his head, only then noticing Dali behind Hagrid.

"O, you are…"

Ollivander asked.

"Dali, Harry's cousin," Dali said simply.

"Oh, I remember Lily's sister wasn't a witch; she came alone at the time. It seems you've awakened your Magic talent, that's quite good."

Ollivander said, somewhat surprised.

"Then now, let me see what kind of wand you need."

"You need to be clear: the wand chooses the person, not the person chooses the wand; that's very important."

Ollivander said seriously.

"You go first, younger brother."

Ollivander took out a measuring tape and began measuring Harry's body dimensions.
