Chapter 29: Fate
Obviously, Ollivander is much more interested in Harry.
Hagrid sat on a bench nearby, while Dali stood on one side with interest, watching Ollivander measure Harry's physical data.
Just as in the Mojin Furen Changpao Dian before, the silver measuring tape Ollivander took out automatically measured Harry's physical data, from the length of Harry's dominant arm to his height, even the distance between Harry's nostrils.
"What use are these data?" Dali thought to himself.
Once a wand is chosen, unless it is damaged beyond use, a typical wizard will not change his wand.
It's not like buying clothes; you can buy another when the body grows taller.
Therefore Dali was very curious about what help these measured data actually provide in selecting a wand.
But Dali didn't ask, interpreting it as merely a ritual feeling for buying a wand.
"Mr. Ollivander, what are wand cores usually made of?"
Dali asked the question he cared about.
He had already used Spiritual Sight; all wand cores are spiritual substances, but he couldn't discern exactly what they were.
"Oh, wands are made from ultra‑strong Magic material; each Ollivander wand is unique."
"Here, we generally use unicorn hair, phoenix tail feather, and dragon heartstring as wand cores."
"Believe me, child, it is the wand that chooses the wizard, not the wizard that chooses the wand."
"If you use a wand that doesn't suit you, it will never produce good results, understand?"
Ollivander explained patiently.
It was clear he had great insight into wands and was willing to explain their mysteries to those who didn't understand them.
"Ollivander, that's it, the measurement is complete."
Ollivander put away the silver tape, thought for a moment, then walked toward the back.
"Let me see, Mr. Harry Potter, what kind of wand suits you?"
"This one seems fine."
Ollivander pulled one out of the many wand cases, opened it, took out a wand, and handed it to Harry.
"Made from fire‑dragon heartstring, nine inches long, very flexible, try it."
Harry took the wand, and for a moment didn't know what to do.
"Give it a wave, child."
Ollivander reminded him.
"Oh."
Harry quickly waved it once.
"Ollivander, no, no, no, this one isn't suitable."
Ollivander, before Harry could react, withdrew the wand and swiftly produced another wand for Harry to try.
"Didn't expect Harry to be such a picky youngster, haha, now Ollivander's got his hands full."
Hagrid laughed at the scene.
"You don't know, the pickier the customer, the more excited Ollivander gets."
Dali nodded; at this moment Ollivander's face was flushed, more spirited than before.
"I don't know what kind of wand I'll get later; I'm actually looking forward to it."
Dali thought to himself.
After trying several wands, Ollivander suddenly seemed to recall something and took a wand from a dust‑filled corner.
His expression turned much more solemn, lacking the earlier excitement.
"How could I have forgotten this wand? It seems fate arranged it..."
Ollivander murmured softly.
His voice was low, but in the quiet shop it sounded especially clear, and the three of them heard it.
"Come, try this wand. Hawthorn wood, phoenix feather, eleven inches long, also very flexible."
When Harry grasped the wand, his fingertips warmed, and a red light burst like fireworks, illuminating the whole room.
"Excellent, this is the wand, marvelous."
"Is this fate?"
Ollivander said.
"Remember what I said before? The scar on your head was caused by another wand I sold, and that wand's phoenix feather came from the same phoenix as this wand's."
"They are like two brothers, but..."
Ollivander stopped there.
Hagrid furrowed his brow slightly, clearly knowing something.
"That Voldemort seems truly to have some Mysticism connection with Harry..."
Seeing this, Dali pondered lightly.
Before, he had thought Voldemort was an irredeemably evil wizard, but now, after learning more, he found that Harry indeed seemed to have some connection with that mysterious figure.
In that bizarre world, similar cases are generally termed Mysticism‑type connections, which cannot be explained by ordinary logic.
As for what exactly is happening with Harry, he still cannot judge.
"I need to find a chance to investigate what exactly Voldemort's situation is."
Dali kept this matter in his heart.
"Alright, Mr. Harry Potter, I believe you will accomplish great things in the future."
"Just like that person, what he did was terrifying, but it was also a great undertaking."
Ollivander nodded toward Harry, then immediately shifted his gaze to Dali.
"Ao, Harry's cousin, it's your turn."
"Ollivander for a moment couldn't recall Dali's name; his attention had been on Harry."
"Alright."
"Dali didn't mind, stood up and came in front of Ollivander, letting him measure his body data."
"Soon the measurement was finished, and Ollivander began to consider a wand suitable for Dali."
"Here, try this one, ebony, ten inches long, fairly stiff."
"Dali took the wand that Ollivander handed over."
"In that instant, Dali clearly felt the spiritual energy inside him flow toward the wand in his hand."
"Hm?"
"Dali slightly frowned; he felt the wand in his hand seemed somewhat resistant to him."
"Subconsciously, he directly wielded the authority of an arbitrator, trying to subdue the wand."
"Ao, no no no, not this one."
"Ollivander seemed to sense something and hurriedly snatched the wand from Dali's hand."
"Uh..."
"Dali's mouth corner twitched slightly."
"He felt he should be able to subdue that wand, and from the recent contact, the wand did not reject spiritual energy; on the contrary it had a good amplifying effect."
"It gathered the previously scattered spiritual energy and then released it."
"From the recent contact, Dali had roughly understood the wand's operating logic."
"For him, a wand is not essential; having one lets him better wield his abilities, but Lack also does not affect."
"And for wizards, they cannot properly control their spiritual energy, so they need a wand's help to unleash the power of spells."
"From This Point, even the top wizards should also possess the ability to cast Magic without a wand, though the Magic they cast would not be too strong."
