Chapter 46: Animagus

~6 min read 1,110 words

Suddenly, Dali's gaze fell on a tabby cat on the podium.

He felt the tabby cat looked familiar, as if he'd seen it somewhere before, and when Dali noticed it, its gaze also met his, with a solemn expression.

Swish.

The next moment, the tabby cat leapt up, rapidly enlarging in midair, and upon landing had turned into a woman wearing a dark green robe.

It was Professor Mai Ge.

"Oh my goodness, that's amazing."

Luoen stared in shock, mouth agape, and blurted out.

"Thank you, Mr. Weasley."

Professor Mai Ge glanced at the three of them, then said, "Perhaps I should turn you into a pocket watch, so you'd know what punctuality means."

Harry apologetically said, "Sorry, Professor, we got lost."

"Then turn it into a map."

Professor Mai Ge said solemnly.

"Go to your seats; you probably don't need a map."

Harry and Luoen dared not say more, hurriedly walking to their seats.

Only Dali stood still, not moving, gazing at Professor Mai Ge, seeming lost in thought.

"Mr. De Shi Li, do you have any questions?"

Professor Mai Ge noticed Dali.

Dali snapped out of his thoughts, pondered briefly, then asked, "Professor Mai Ge, I want to know: can wizards turn into any animal they want?"

Professor Mai Ge raised his head, somewhat proudly, and said, "Of course not; only a few can do this kind of Transfiguration, and it has a special name: Animagus, which must be registered with the Ministry of Magic."

"Furthermore, an Animagus can only become a fixed animal, and this is related to one's body type and weight; it's not that you can become whatever you want."

Upon hearing Professor Mai Ge's explanation, many let out a gasp.

They originally thought Professor Mai Ge turning into a cat was a common ability, but now it seems this ability is actually quite rare.

"Among wizards, how many Animagi are there?"

Dali asked.

"Very few; as far as I know, the Ministry of Magic currently has only seven registered Animagi, including me."

Mai Ge said.

"Thank you, Professor Mai Ge."

Dali nodded and returned to his seat.

"Being interested in Transfiguration is good, but don't get ahead of yourselves; you need to start with the basics of Transfiguration, and as for Animagus, that's not something you can consider right now." Mai Ge said.

"After all, Transfiguration will be the most complex and dangerous magic you study at Hogwarts."

"Alright, today's exercise: you need to turn the match before you into a needle; this is the most basic Transfiguration."

"Next, watch closely how I do it."

Professor Mai Ge began formally teaching the lesson.

She carefully explained the incantation, pronunciation issues, how to use the wand, how to properly cast Transfiguration, and so on.

Meanwhile.

After Dali sat down in his seat, he fell into deep thought.

"Animagus!"

This term echoed in Dali's mind.

If Professor Mai Ge hadn't appeared, Dali might not have thought in this direction, but seeing Professor Mai Ge turn into a tabby cat and then back again made it impossible for Dali not to associate other things.

For example, Luoen's rat Banban.

Of course, he wasn't entirely sure what was up with Banban; he only remembered that when he used Spiritual Sight to examine Banban, he seemed to see a human-shaped soul on it.

If this is what an Animagus looks like, then there's no doubt Banban must be an Animagus.

But if he really is a person, why would he turn himself into a rat and stay in Luoen's house?

What is his purpose?

Also, why did he suddenly choose to flee? Was it because he discovered something?

Dali had many things he couldn't figure out.

To others, it's innocent until proven guilty; they might just dismiss it as an illusion.

But for Dali, he wouldn't rule out any possibility; indeed, he instinctively leans toward the worst.

"If I encounter that rat again, I must find a way to catch it and investigate the situation." Dali thought to himself.

At the same time, he glanced at Professor Mai Ge.

If he remembers correctly, that tabby cat once appeared at Surrey County Little Whinging Privet Drive No. 4.

At that time, Dali thought the cat was somewhat odd, but didn't think much of it.

Now it seems that must have been Professor Mai Ge.

She might have been protecting them, or possibly monitoring them.

"After appearing in the Gulingge incident, it's likely she came to protect Harry."

"The magical world is full of surprises everywhere." Dali thought to himself.

The cat passing by his own yard could actually be his teacher, a classmate he just met, his pet rat possibly an Animagus, going to the bank to get some money, running into his enemy……

It's unbelievable; if he hadn't experienced it himself, Dali wouldn't believe any of this was real.

Or perhaps his most instinctive reaction would be that he had been set up.

"The writer's path, or that pen!"

However, he also knows that unless there are other powerful Extraordinary Ones from that Guiyi Shijie in this world, it would not be easy to arrange for him.

"Could it be that everything I am experiencing right now has been arranged by someone?"

Suddenly, a thought popped into his mind, frightening Dali into a cold sweat.

"Impossible, no one can achieve This Point, not even gods……"

Dali furrowed his brows and couldn't help but look up.

"There, would there be a pair of eyes overlooking everything that happens here?"

"Mr. De Shi Li, are there any words on the ceiling?"

Professor McGonagall's stern voice came through.

Being late had already made her very dissatisfied, yet Dali actually still wasn't paying attention, staring at the ceiling, not knowing what he was thinking.

Everyone turned their heads to look at Dali.

Dali withdrew his gaze and said, "No, this is my way of thinking; I am thinking about the knowledge of the Transfiguration spell that Professor McGonagall just lectured."

"Oh? Then what results have you come up with?"

Professor McGonagall asked solemnly, while slowly walking over.

Harry, Hermione, and Luoen had already closed their eyes, feeling that Dali was about to be dealt with by Professor McGonagall, and losing points was surely inevitable.

On the other side, the Slytherin students were about to laugh out loud, especially Ma Er Fu, who hoped Professor McGonagall would harshly punish Dali.

"Hmm, I've gained some insights." Dali nodded.

"For example?"

Professor McGonagall walked up to Dali.

"Like this."

Dali took out his wand, pointed at the match on the table, and chanted the incantation.

Swish.

Under everyone's gaze, the match instantly turned into a needle.
