Chapter 20

~7 min read 1,372 words

Knockturn Alley.

Murphy was dressed in black robes, wearing a cloak and a hood, a getup that screamed "I'm afraid others don't know I'm a bad guy."

Actually, he didn't want to act so chuunibyou, but he really couldn't help it.

Dark wizards and such, aren't they cool!

If it weren't for being too stupid, he would have loved to create some cold air around him, focusing on being cold and ruthless.

However, when he really arrived at Knockturn Alley, he discovered that there was no shortage of weirdos in strange clothes here.

For example, that old witch who looked like she had just crawled out of a garbage dump, the hat on her head was crooked and actually had oysters and barnacles growing on it, her seaweed-like hair was curled, and he didn't know if it was dyed or the influence of some potion, it actually presented a poisonous pus-green color, making people keep their distance.

And that hunchbacked wizard with a huge bulbous nose, several giant insects were crawling on his bald head and hunchback, seemingly sucking his blood, and he actually had a rather enjoyable look, floating and intoxicated.

Then there was another thin, tall wizard standing on the side of the street, wearing a tattered cloak, holding a birdcage in one hand, inside which an Evil Old Bird was constantly opening its mouth trying to chirp, but it seemed to have been cast with a Silencing Charm.

And in his other hand, he was actually holding a scythe.

He just stood silently on the side of the street, motionless, looking from afar like a terrifying scarecrow.

Facing these monsters and demons, Murphy could only bow down and feel ashamed.

It was me who was conservative.

By comparison, his own getup was truly plain, and even appeared overly simple.

This feeling was similar to you finally overcoming your shame to cosplay a character you hadn't dared to try before, but when you arrived at the comic con, good guy, cross-dressers with full shame-level were everywhere, and your little sense of achievement from breaking through yourself instantly became dull.

However, this was also good; with so many eye-catching people, he wasn't afraid of being targeted.

Murphy strolled around Knockturn Alley and found several places where he could open a shop; the rent was very cheap, ranging from two hundred to five hundred Galleons, Murphy directly took action and rented one of the larger storefronts, deciding to find someone to decorate it casually in a few days.

Then Murphy also found a shop selling potion materials, "Toad Cellar".

Murphy inquired, and it turned out they only sold some unconventional potion materials, such as human bone powder, nail caps, cobra venom glands, witch menstrual blood, etc.

But after paying a few Galleons in consultation fees, Murphy still got a name from the shop owner Halima, Lisandro Fulai.

It was said that he could get any material Murphy wanted.

At the "Siren's Song" tavern, Murphy met Lisandro.

That was a young man with pale skin, he was playing poker with another wizard, the latter lost after a while, the notary standing on the side returned the two people's wands, and Lisandro laughed and put the few Galleons the other party had bet on the table into his pocket.

"I'll play a round." Murphy pushed the loser away, the latter cursed, but Murphy drew a wand, and the latter stepped aside.

He handed the wand to the notary and sat down.

But Lisandro stood up, "I don't play with strangers."

As he spoke, he prepared to tidy up the poker cards on the table.

Murphy reached out and pressed him down, "Halima said you were hospitable, I thought she was serious."

As he spoke, he lined up twenty Galleons on the table, "Play a round, if you win I won't take a penny, if you lose you take these, how about it? Or are you afraid?"

"Fulai, this kid is calling you a coward." The tavern's bartender seemed to be an acquaintance of Fulai and mocked him.

"Go to hell, go sell your pig urine," Lisandro cursed, but he sat back down, "You've got guts, kid, I'll play a round with you, if you lose, you say what you have to say, if you win, you have to give me double!"

"Kid, I advise you not to gamble with him, this guy is a lunatic." The bartender advised.

"Thank you," Murphy smiled, then looked at Lisandro, "How to play?"

"Simple," Lisandro said, collecting the deck of cards, shuffling them twice, and dividing them into two piles, placing them on the table.

"Each person chooses a pile, after shuffling, draw three cards, whoever has the bigger cards wins. You can choose first."

Murphy understood; under this rule, Lisandro, who shuffled the cards first, might know part of the order of the two piles of cards, and no matter which pile he chose, he could use some techniques to draw the big cards out of his pile.

And because he didn't know the initial order of the deck, he could only rely on luck.

"This is unfair, you just shuffled the cards, you might know the card order, or you marked these cards, you can always draw the cards you want."

"There is no absolute fairness, kid, do you gamble or not?"

"Gamble, but I want to change to a fairer way. Not us drawing the cards ourselves, but having someone else deal the cards. This can prevent both of us from cheating."

Lisandro glared at him, "Who do you want to choose?"

Murphy looked around the tavern and pointed at the man who had just lost the bet, "Just you."

Only this guy who had just lost to Lisandro definitely wouldn't be his accomplice.

"Good!" Lisandro actually agreed, reached out and took a pile of cards, spread them out in front of him, "Then let him deal the cards!"

After speaking, he pointed at the man, "You, Vasco, right, get over here!"

The man walked over tremblingly, somewhat at a loss, but Lisandro stood up and patted him on the shoulder, "That thing you said just now, I agree to it on behalf of the master."

After speaking, he suddenly hugged Vasco's neck and actually bit down.

Murphy was stunned and wanted to reach for his wand, but Vasco, who had been bitten, didn't struggle, but instead let out a strange moan.

A moment later, Lisandro raised his head, wiped his mouth, and let go of Vasco, the latter collapsed to the ground, and only crawled up slowly after a long while.

Lisandro glanced at Murphy playfully and tapped the table, "Deal the cards!"

Vasco's eyes were gray and white, he walked stiffly to the card table, one hand moving slowly over the cards Lisandro had spread out, suddenly he seemed to feel some signal, his arm pressed down, drew one out, and then began to explore the deck again.

And Lisandro was also staring at Vasco, his eyes gradually turning crimson.

Looking at Vasco again, the two small holes on his neck like snake bites were bleeding.

Damn!

Vampire!

Lisandro is a damn vampire!

He had turned Vasco into his blood slave and was controlling him to draw cards for himself through the natural control ability of a superior vampire over a blood slave!

Merlin's rotten balls!

It's just playing cards, is it worth it?!

Soon, the three cards were drawn, Lisandro let out a long breath, seemingly the action of controlling Vasco just now was also not easy for him.

"Your turn!"

Murphy frowned, but under the other party's gaze, he had no choice but to spread out his cards just like him.

At this time, Vasco had returned to normal, he came to Murphy's side, didn't even look, and directly grabbed three cards from the top of the deck.

What Lisandro said just now, Vasco seemed to have something to ask of the "master" behind Lisandro, and from the fact that he didn't resist becoming a blood slave at all, what he sought might be to become a blood slave.

After all, compared to ordinary wizards, vampires are truly long-lived.

This guy was now Lisandro's person.

"Open the cards!"
