Chapter 24: Flying Class

~8 min read 1,408 words

"Good afternoon, children."

"Welcome to my flying classroom, my name is Rolanda Hooch, you can call me Professor Hooch."

A female professor with short gray-white hair and sharp yellow eyes like an eagle's came to them.

The flying class was outdoors; the little wizards were divided into two rows, with a flying broom placed in front of each of them.

"Before starting, I must remind everyone that riding a flying broom is a dangerous sport; everyone must strictly follow my safety regulations, and violators will be directly grounded."

Professor Hooch stood in the middle of the two rows of students with her hands on her hips and said seriously to everyone.

Although she had been emphasizing safety regulations, flying accidents happened every year, perhaps because of mischief, or perhaps because of simple fear, not being suitable for flying brooms.

But she still had to emphasize it once to warn these little wizards.

The performance of a flying broom is determined by the manufacturing process and the intensity of the magic applied.

And what the school used to teach freshmen was the most ordinary, or series products that could be called old, the Cleansweep Five.

The performance of these brooms couldn't be said to be bad, only that it was a mess.

But it was very suitable for teaching freshmen.

"Alright, come on, everyone take a step forward and stand to the left of the broom."

After finishing the safety regulations, Professor Hooch finally began to enter practical teaching.

"Although I said so many safety regulations, there is one principle that can break all safety regulations."

"And that is courage! Flying brooms don't recognize bloodlines, don't recognize talent, only obey courage!"

"As long as you have enough courage, you will definitely be able to conquer the flying broom!"

Before starting, Professor Hooch inspired the students passionately.

"Come on, children, let me see your courage; now extend your right hand and suspend it above the broom, aim at your broom, and shout 'Up'."

The little wizards did as they were told, and one "Up" after another sounded.

John also looked at the broom at his feet, steadied his mind, and shouted "Up."

He immediately felt the connection between himself and the broom, and the flying broom flew up automatically, flying into John's hand.

This feeling was just like the feeling of Thor reaching out his hand and summoning Mjolnir.

After holding the flying broom, he could feel that the flying broom in his hand had a slight upward force.

It wasn't big, it could be easily grasped, and it seemed that as long as magic power was poured into it, this upward force would become larger.

John tried it, and as his magic power poured in, he found it increasingly difficult to hold this broom, until it could pull his whole person up.

"Oh! Mr. Merrick, quickly relax your spirit, don't let the broom get out of control."

This scene could be said to be very conspicuous, because everyone else was still summoning their brooms, only his broom flew high, and John was hanging on the broom with one hand, being dragged up by the broom.

In the eyes of others, it seemed as if John's broom was about to get out of control.

"Uh, okay."

John came back to his senses and hurriedly stopped the magic power output, and the broom descended as he wished, but it was a sudden drop.

Fortunately, he was only a dozen centimeters off the ground, otherwise, this would have been enough.

It seemed that stopping the magic power output also had to be done slowly.

"Mr. Merrick, you have to relax; the broom is your partner, not a monster; the more you try to suppress it, the easier it is for it to get out of control."

Professor Hooch walked to John's side and opened up John's mind.

In her view, John was just too nervous, feeling the lifting force of the flying broom, wanting to suppress the broom, and as a result, accidentally inputting a large amount of magic power, causing the flying broom to drag him up.

The situation was guessed correctly, but the relationship was guessed wrong; John was just curious and actively input magic power to test how big the force of the flying broom could be.

However, John didn't explain, and it wasn't a big deal.

Professor Hooch shouted loudly to the rest of the little wizards again, relaxing everyone's spirit, so as not to have someone else's broom get out of control.

"Very good, next step, grab your broom, and then ride on it; you must grab it tightly, don't slide down."

Soon everyone successfully summoned the broom into their hands, and they began the next step.

John tried to find a comfortable angle and rode on the broom, discovering that he didn't feel any discomfort; it seemed that the broom designer had considered the vast majority of males.

"Wait for everyone to listen to my whistle, then kick the ground hard, and let the broom take you into the air."

"Then keep your balance well, don't move around."

"Now, three, two, one, woo~"

Following the "woo" sound of Professor Hooch's whistle.

Everyone kicked the ground and took off, riding on the broom and suspending in the air.

However, some didn't master the balance well, directly flipping over and hanging under the broom.

Others spun in place, or subconsciously pressed the front of the broom too hard, and with a *bang*, dropped back to the ground.

For a time, the scene could be said to be a dance of demons.

However, there were no particularly serious accidents, so Professor Hooch just watched them screaming and let them adapt themselves.

John rode without any accidents, steady and stable, circling around the field, wanting to rise, rising, wanting to descend, descending, leaning to drift, stopping suddenly to flick the tail, as if using his arm, without any pressure.

To be honest, the feeling of flying was really not bad, it was just that the comfort of this broom needed to be improved.

After circling twice, he came down himself.

"Mr. Merrick, it seems your flying talent is very good; have you considered joining the Quidditch school team in the future?"

John's performance just now was all in Professor Hooch's eyes; seeing John come down, she walked to John's side and asked.

"Quidditch, I haven't considered it for the time being."

"Then you can consider it carefully; I believe you will definitely be able to shine brilliantly."

John nodded, but didn't respond.

Quidditch is the most popular sport in the wizarding world.

It has even developed to the present, with large-scale events like the Quidditch World Cup, making countless wizards flock to it.

However, John really had no interest.

In his view, although the wizarding world has order, laws, and management, the only truth is always the fist.

No matter how well you ride a flying broom, no matter how many fans you have, it's not as good as having powerful strength to protect yourself.

Not seeking to be invincible in the world, only seeking to be safe and secure.

With this time to practice Quidditch, it would be better to find Professor Fuliwei to learn a few more spells, which would be more practical.

"Good evening, John, what book are you reading?"

"Good evening, Senior Luna, reading *Dark Self-Defense*, the book for tomorrow's Defense Against the Dark Arts class, previewing it in advance."

After finishing class in the afternoon, it was almost dinner time, and John and the others were all reading in the Great Hall.

That kid Titus had a Defense Against the Dark Arts class this afternoon, and he was vividly telling them how interesting this Professor Lupin's classroom was.

In the first class, they didn't learn the content in the book, but saw a magical creature called a "Boggart" with their own eyes.

But what exactly it was for, Titus kept them in suspense and didn't tell them.

So John curiously read the book, checking the information about the Boggart.

However, this thing wasn't in their first-year textbook at all...

Obviously, this was specially prepared by Professor Lupin for them to see the world; it shouldn't be any dangerous dark magical creature.

The first-year textbook was all theoretical knowledge on how to distinguish dark magical creatures and how to protect themselves.

The only spell that looked somewhat useful was the Repel Spell. ===== CHAPTER 25 =====
