Chapter 76: Return to Xiangjiang
Xiang Fei had just returned to his office at Yongsheng Film Industry and hadn't even warmed his seat when Wang Jing burst in excitedly, holding a box of film reels.
"Ah Fei! The rough cut of 'Infernal Affairs' is ready; want to be the first to see it?" Wang Jing asked, his face alight with excitement and his eyes shining. "Let me tell you, the scenes between Liu Liu Furong and Zhou Xingxing are absolutely incredible!"
Xiang Fei glanced up at him, took a slow sip of coffee, and said, "Oh? You're that free?"
Wang Jing froze. "Huh?"
Xiang Fei set down his cup, smiled faintly, and said, "Since you have so much time, you might as well follow up on the post-production editing for 'God of Gamblers'."
Wang Jing immediately deflated like a punctured ball. "No way, Ah Fei... I still have to handle 'Infernal Affairs'..."
"What?" Xiang Fei raised an eyebrow. "Unwilling?"
Wang Jing swallowed hard, forced a dry laugh, and said, "How could I be! I'm going right now!" With that, he slunk away, clutching the film reels and muttering under his breath, "If I'd known, I wouldn't have come..."
Watching his retreating back, Xiang Fei couldn't help but laugh aloud. "That fatty..."
No sooner had Wang Jing left than the office door was gently knocked upon again.
"Come in."
The door opened, and Zhou Zhou Huimin entered carrying an exquisite food box, a gentle smile on her face. "Are you done working?"
Xiang Fei immediately stood up and walked over quickly to take the food box from her hands. "Didn't I tell you to rest at home? Why did you run over here again?"
Zhou Zhou Huimin reached out to straighten his tie. "You started working the moment you returned; I was afraid you'd forget to eat." She opened the food box, revealing a carefully prepared lunch inside. "It's all your favorites."
A warmth surged through Xiang Fei's heart as he took her hand. "Thank you; I happen to be hungry."
Just as they were speaking, the office door was suddenly pushed open and a manager peeked in. "Young Master Xiang, um..." Upon seeing the scene inside, he instantly froze in awkwardness. "Uh, I'll come back later."
Zhou Zhou Huimin's face flushed, and she quickly withdrew her hand, but Xiang Fei smiled and held onto her. "It's fine; come in."
The floor manager kept his head low, hurried in, dropped off the documents, and then fled as if escaping.
Zhou Zhou Huimin lightly punched Xiang Fei on the arm. "Look, we were seen."
Xiang Fei dismissed it with a wave. "So we were seen. My girlfriend is here; what is there to hide?"
A blush spread across Zhou Zhou Huimin's face, but her eyes were filled with sweetness.
While the two were eating lunch, the office door opened again, and Lady Xiang strode in energetically, followed by seven or eight young actors.
"Ah Fei!" Lady Xiang said with a broad smile. "I've brought the people you asked for!"
Seeing Zhou Zhou Huimin there, Lady Xiang's eyes lit up. "Oh my, Vivian is here too!"
Zhou Zhou Huimin hurriedly stood up. "Greetings, Auntie."
Lady Xiang affectionately took her hand. "So thoughtful, coming all this way to bring Ah Fei his meal?"
Zhou Zhou Huimin nodded shyly.
Xiang Fei stood up and naturally put his arm around Zhou Zhou Huimin's shoulders. "Auntie, what's this about?"
Only then did Lady Xiang remember her main purpose; she stepped aside and introduced them one by one. "This is Zhu Yin, this is Cai Cai Shaofen, this is Wu Wu Mengda..."
Zhu Yin waved playfully. "Greetings, Young Master Xiang! Greetings, Sister Vivian!"
Cai Cai Shaofen appeared slightly reserved and bowed slightly. "Young Master Xiang, Sister Vivian."
Wu Wu Mengda nodded with a hearty laugh. "Young Master Xiang, I've long heard of your great name! Vivian is getting more and more beautiful!"
The remaining few new actors also bowed and offered their greetings one after another.
Xiang Fei nodded, his gaze sweeping over the group before finally resting on Lady Xiang. "Auntie certainly works with high efficiency."
Lady Xiang proudly lifted her chin. "Of course! These are all fine talents I carefully selected; their acting skills and images are impeccable!"
She looked at Zhou Zhou Huimin, then at Xiang Fei, and suddenly laughed. "I think Vivian could come act for Yongsheng too; she shouldn't limit herself to just the music circle!"
Zhou Zhou Huimin's face flushed again. "Auntie is joking."
Xiang Fei squeezed her shoulder gently. "That's something we can consider."
After the newcomers had left, Lady Xiang took Zhou Zhou Huimin's hand. "Vivian, if that boy Ah Fei ever dares to bully you, just tell me, and I'll teach him a lesson for you!"
Zhou Zhou Huimin pressed her lips together in a smile. "He wouldn't."
Xiang Fei said helplessly, "Auntie, how would I dare?"
Lady Xiang nodded in satisfaction. "That's more like it." She glanced at her watch. "Alright, I have other matters to attend to; I'll be going first. You two take your time chatting."
After Lady Xiang left, Zhou Zhou Huimin finally let out a breath of relief. "Auntie is still so enthusiastic."
Xiang Fei smiled and pulled her into his embrace. "She just likes you too much." He leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Are you tired? Do you want to go to the resting room and sleep for a while?"
Zhou Zhou Huimin shook her head. "I'm not tired; let me keep you company while you work."
Xiang Fei raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
Zhou Zhou Huimin nodded seriously. "Mm, I can sit nearby and read scripts; I won't disturb you."
Warmth flooded Xiang Fei's heart again as he took her hand. "Good, then let's do this together."
Outside the window, the night lights of Xiangjiang gradually ignited, with neon signs twinkling.
Xiang Fei sat at his desk processing documents, and whenever he looked up, he could see Zhou Zhou Huimin's profile as she quietly read a script.
Under the lamplight, her eyelashes cast faint shadows on her face, a beauty that stirred the heart.
Xiang Fei put down his pen, walked over, and sat beside her. "What are you reading so intently?"
Zhou Zhou Huimin looked up and smiled at him. "The script for 'Xiangjiang Good Voice'; I think a few segments could be improved."
Xiang Fei put his arm around her shoulder. "Don't tire yourself out; leave these matters to Auntie."
Zhou Zhou Huimin leaned against his shoulder. "I just want to help you."
A surge of warmth welled up in Xiang Fei's heart as he leaned down and kissed the top of her hair. "It's so good to have you here."
