Chapter 211: Sister Mei's Concert

~5 min read 963 words

Backstage at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

Zhou Huimin was making final preparations in the dressing room when she suddenly heard a rustling sound from outside the door.

"Who is it?" she asked, turning her head.

The door was pushed open a crack; first, a small head wearing children's sunglasses and a mask poked in, followed immediately by a tall figure also wearing sunglasses and a mask.

"Mommy!" Xiang Yang tore off his mask and excitedly lunged forward.

Zhou Huimin froze for a second, then laughed so hard she couldn't straighten her back: "Are you father and son going to work as secret agents?"

Xiang Fei took off his sunglasses and helplessly shrugged: "This kid insisted on copying me, saying it's only cool that way."

Xiang Yang proudly spun around: "Mommy, look, do I look like a twin with Daddy?"

Zhou Huimin couldn't help but laugh, pulling her son to the mirror: "Come on, take a look."

In the mirror, two figures, one big and one small, both in identical black trench coats, sunglasses, and masks, looked as if they were carved from the same mold.

"Truly father and son," Zhou Huimin said with a smile, shaking her head as she adjusted Xiang Yang's collar. "When the concert starts in a moment, you'll sit in the VIP area; don't run around, understand?"

Xiang Yang nodded vigorously: "Mm! I want to watch Mommy and Auntie Mei sing!"

At four in the afternoon, the Hong Kong Coliseum was packed to capacity.

Xiang Fei, holding Xiang Yang's hand, quietly took their seats in the VIP area under the escort of Bai Long and Hei Hu. Despite the disguises, several sharp-eyed fans recognized them, causing a small commotion.

"Daddy, so many people!" Xiang Yang leaned over the railing, his eyes wide as he gazed around.

Xiang Fei lifted his son onto his lap: "Sit properly; it's starting soon."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than all the lights in the arena suddenly dimmed, and a single spotlight hit the center of the stage.

Anita Mui, in a long red dress, slowly rose from the lift platform.

"Friends of Xiangjiang—" she raised the microphone, her voice piercing the entire stadium, "Long time no see!"

Instantly, a roar of cheers like a mountain call and sea surge nearly blew the roof off.

Xiang Yang was startled by the scene, then excitedly waved his small hands: "Auntie Mei! I'm here!"

Xiang Fei quickly covered his son's mouth: "Shh—"

Anita Mui seemed to hear that childish cry; her gaze swept toward the VIP area, and she winked at Xiang Yang.

The music began, and Anita Mui delivered three classic hits in a row: "Woman's Flower," "Song of the Setting Sun," and "Flowing Years Like Water," pushing the on-site atmosphere to its first climax.

After finishing the third song, Anita Mui, breathing slightly heavily, said with a smile: "Next, I would like to invite a special guest—"

She deliberately dragged out the tone, and the entire audience shouted in unison: "Brother Leslie Cheung!"

A blue spotlight shone down; Leslie Cheung, dressed in a white suit, walked elegantly from the other side of the stage.

"Ah Mei, you look so beautiful today," he said with a smile as he embraced Anita Mui.

The two sang a duet of "The Wind Continues to Blow"; Anita Mui's deep voice and Leslie Cheung's clear tone blended perfectly, leaving the entire audience entranced.

After the song, Anita Mui exited to rest, while Leslie Cheung remained on stage alone.

"This next song," he surveyed the entire arena with a gentle gaze, "is dedicated to everyone who quietly persists on the journey of life."

The intro to "Silence Is Golden" began; Leslie Cheung stood under the spotlight as if the whole person were glowing.

In the VIP area, Xiang Yang tilted his head and asked: "Daddy, Godfather sings really well."

Xiang Fei said softly: "Your godfather is one of the best singers in Xiangjiang."

"Then who is more amazing, him or Auntie Mei?"

Xiang Fei smiled: "They are both legends."

Anita Mui returned to the stage and delivered two more upbeat songs, heating up the on-site atmosphere.

Suddenly, lights flared on both sides of the stage simultaneously—Jacky Cheung walked out from the left, and Kelly Chen from the right.

Jacky Cheung and Kelly Chen sang the classic "Kiss Goodbye"; the lingering, sorrowful melody made the entire audience spontaneously turn on their phone flashlights, transforming into a sea of stars.

After finishing, Anita Mui sang two more solo songs, then stopped.

"The next guest," she smiled mysteriously, "is a very close best friend of mine; her album sales make all other singers step aside. Do you know who it is?"

The audience had already begun to stir; someone shouted: "Vivian!"

Anita Mui nodded: "That's right; please welcome with applause—Vivian, Zhou Huimin!"

The intro to "Foolish Heart Exchanges for Deep Affection" began; Zhou Huimin, in a white dress, walked gracefully from the back of the stage.

"Mommy!" Xiang Yang suddenly jumped up: "Daddy, look quickly! It's Mommy!"

Xiang Fei smiled and held down his excited son: "I see it, I see it."

While Zhou Huimin and Anita Mui sang their duet, Xiang Yang stood on a chair the whole time, jumping up and down, making the surrounding audience unable to help but laugh.

When the song ended, Leslie Cheung, Jacky Cheung, and Kelly Chen returned to the stage; the six superstars stood in a row. Anita Mui picked up the microphone, just about to deliver her closing remarks.

Suddenly, a melody never heard before began to play.

Anita Mui froze, turning her head toward the band—musicians wore equally bewildered expressions.

Leslie Cheung frowned: "This isn't our song."

The audience also began to stir; whispers rose and fell one after another.
