Chapter 238
Half a month later, outside the operating room of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, the air seemed to solidify.
Xiang Fei sat on the bench, hands clasped before his lips, his gaze fixed tightly on that glaring red light. Leslie Cheung leaned against the opposite wall, his face as pale as paper, his long fingers unconsciously rubbing his wristwatch; while Danny Chan paced back and forth, his leather shoes tapping an anxious rhythm on the tiled floor.
Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from the end of the corridor.
"Ah Fei!"
Zhou Huimin walked over quickly, holding Xiang Yang, her bangs damp with sweat and stuck to her cheeks. Breathless, she asked, "Has Sister Mei not come out yet?"
Xiang Fei stood up, took the child, and shook his head gently: "It has already been six hours."
Xiang Yang wriggled his small body in his father's arms, reaching out a chubby little hand to grab Xiang Fei's tense chin. Zhou Huimin took her husband's hand, feeling the cold sweat seeping from his palm.
Two hours later, the surgical light finally went out.
Everyone stood up instantly, crowding around the lead surgeon who pushed the door open. Liu Yuanzhang removed his mask, revealing a weary yet relieved smile: "The surgery was successful. The tumor was completely removed, and the lymph node dissection was very clean."
Leslie Cheung's legs gave way, and Danny Chan caught him in time.
"Fortunately, it was discovered in time," Liu Yuanzhang wiped the sweat from his forehead, "If it had been delayed by half a month, we might have only been able to perform conservative treatment."
Xiang Fei let out a long sigh, turned, and buried his face in Zhou Huimin's shoulder. Zhou Huimin felt her husband's shoulders trembling slightly.
"That's wonderful..." Jet Li gently punched the wall, his eyes red-rimmed.
When Anita Mui was wheeled out of the operating room, everyone only had time to catch a glimpse of a pale face. She was sent directly to the intensive care unit, where through the glass window, the cold gleam of various instruments could be seen flashing.
"No visiting for three days." The nurse stopped Leslie Cheung, who wanted to follow in, "The patient needs absolute rest."
Xiang Fei clapped his hands to gather the group: "Ah Zhuo stays on duty; the rest of you go back and rest first."
He turned to Danny Chan: "Mr. Chan, take Brother back to get some sleep; his complexion is far too poor."
Leslie Cheung wanted to say something more, but Danny Chan gently pressed his shoulder: "Listen to Ah Fei's arrangement."
After the crowd dispersed, Bai Long appeared silently beside Jet Li. This boyfriend of Anita Mui was staring blankly at the ICU glass, holding a cup of coffee that had long gone cold.
"Mr. Zhao." Bai Long took a stack of documents from his briefcase, "This is the agency contract for Fei Min Pictures."
Jet Li slowly raised his head, a glint of light appearing in his bloodshot eyes.
"Sign it." Bai Long handed over a fountain pen, "The fee is at the top-tier standard; the specific terms are on page seventeen."
Unexpectedly, Jet Li flipped directly to the last page and signed his name without hesitation.
Bai Long raised an eyebrow: "Not going to look carefully at the contents?"
"I trust the Guide." Jet Li's voice was hoarse, his gaze turning back to the ICU, "He saved Ah Mei."
Bai Long suddenly smiled, reaching out to pat Jet Li's solid shoulder: "A martial artist? We'll spar another day."
"I'm ready anytime." Jet Li finally showed his first smile since the surgery.
Three days later, Anita Mui was transferred to a VIP ward. Sunlight streamed through the curtains onto the hospital bed, adding a touch of warmth to her pale complexion.
"Sister Mei, I have good news." Xiang Fei sat by the bedside, gently holding her hand, "Professor Shi Misi from the Anderson Cancer Center arrives in Beijing tomorrow; he will work with the experts from Peking Union to formulate the follow-up treatment plan."
Anita Mui's face turned deathly pale: "Ah Fei, I..."
"Don't say such foreign words." Xiang Fei smiled, interrupting her, "You just rest well; the concert is waiting for you to return to the stage."
Outside the ward, Leslie Cheung watched this scene through the glass window on the door, finally revealing his first genuine smile in days. Danny Chan gently put his arm around his shoulder: "Now we can rest easy, finally we can rest easy.
