Chapter 239: News About Zhou Xingxing
One week later, Anita Mui was transferred from the intensive care unit to a VIP ward.
Lin Xiaoyu, the junior nurse in charge of this ward, pushed the medicine cart to the door, took a deep breath. This was her first time caring for a celebrity patient; she felt both nervous and excited. She knocked lightly on the door, heard a "Come in" from inside, then carefully pushed the door open and entered.
As soon as the door opened, she froze in place.
On the hospital bed, Anita Mui leaned half-reclined against the pillows; though her complexion was still somewhat pale, her spirit was clearly much improved. Standing by the bedside was Leslie Cheung, who was peeling an apple; he looked up and smiled at her. On the sofa, Zhou Huimin held a little boy, softly coaxing the child; Xiang Fei sat on a chair beside the bed; the group was chatting and laughing.
Lin Xiaoyu felt her head go "buzz" with a single thud, and the medicine tray in her hand nearly dropped to the floor.
"Careful." Leslie Cheung, quick-eyed and quick-handed, reached out to support her, speaking gently, "Don't be nervous; take it slow."
Lin Xiaoyu nodded with a flushed face, her hands trembling slightly as she began changing the dressing. She didn't even dare to look up at these big stars she could only see on television in ordinary days; her motions for changing the dressing were several beats slower than usual.
"New here?" Anita Mui, noticing her nervousness, asked softly.
"Y-yes, Miss Mui," Lin Xiaoyu stammered in reply, "I was only transferred to the VIP ward last week."
"It's alright; relax," Xiang Fei also offered comfort, "We don't eat people."
This remark made everyone in the ward laugh, and the atmosphere instantly lightened considerably.
After finishing the dressing change, Lin Xiaoyu hesitated for a moment, then finally mustered the courage to pull a small notebook and a pen from her pocket.
"Um..." her face flushed bright red, "C-could I ask you all to sign this? My family really likes your movies and songs..."
Leslie Cheung was the first to take the notebook, smiling as he said, "Of course."
He signed his name with a flourish, then handed the notebook to Anita Mui. Although a needle tube was still inserted in her hand, Anita Mui signed her name carefully anyway. Zhou Huimin and Xiang Fei also signed in turn.
"Thank you! Thank you all!" Lin Xiaoyu held the signed notebook as if it were a treasure, bowed repeatedly, then quickly exited the ward, afraid of disturbing them.
After the door closed, Anita Mui said with a smile, "This young miss is truly adorable."
"Yes," Leslie Cheung sat back down by the bedside, "It reminds me of myself when I first entered the industry; seeing seniors made me just as nervous."
That evening, at Xiang Fei's home.
The family sat around the dining table eating dinner. Zhou Huimin suddenly patted her forehead: "Oh my, how could I have forgotten this matter."
"What matter?" Xiang Fei picked up a mouthful of food with his chopsticks and asked casually.
"Uncle called a few days ago," Zhou Huimin said, "You were in a meeting at the time, so he called me instead. He said Zhou Xingxing is working on eight film sets a day at Shaw Brothers, and his fee is only 800,000."
Xiang Fei's chopsticks paused for a moment; then he smiled and said nothing.
At that moment, Xiang Yang, who had been eating quietly, suddenly raised his head, blinked his big eyes, and asked, "Daddy, Uncle Xingxing is being bullied; won't you help?"
Zhou Huimin smiled and patted her son's head: "Yangyang, Daddy will definitely help; he's just thinking of a way."
Xiang Yang nodded as if understanding yet not quite, then lowered his head again to shovel rice from his bowl.
One month later, Xiang Fei and Zhou Huimin came to the hospital again to visit Anita Mui.
Pushing open the ward door, they were surprised to find that Anita Mui could already get out of bed and walk; she was moving slowly with Leslie Cheung's support.
"Sister Mui! How did you get up?" Zhou Huimin hurried forward to support the other side.
"Lying down too long made my whole body feel uncomfortable," Anita Mui said with a smile, "The doctor said that moderate activity is good for my recovery."
Xiang Fei placed the fruit he had brought on the table: "Your complexion is much better."
Leslie Cheung interjected: "Ah Fei is right."
Just as they were speaking, Lin Xiaoyu pushed the door open again to change the dressing. This time, she was obviously much more relaxed and could even chat and laugh with everyone.
"Miss Mui's indicators are much better than yesterday," she changed the dressing skillfully, "At this rate, she can be discharged in another week."
"Really?" Anita Mui's eyes lit up.
Lin Xiaoyu nodded: "Director Liu said so during morning rounds."
