Chapter 76: Return to Xiangjiang
Xiang Fei had just returned to the office of Eternal Rise Pictures when, before he could even get comfortable in his chair, Wang Jing burst in excitedly, clutching a box of film reels.
"Ah Fei! The rough cut of 'Infernal Affairs' is ready. Want to be the first to see it?" Wang Jing's face was flushed with excitement, his eyes shining. "Let me tell you, the scenes between Liu Furong and Zhou Xingxing are absolutely brilliant!"
Xiang Fei glanced up at him, took a slow sip of coffee, and said, "Oh? You're so free?"
Wang Jing froze. "Huh?"
Xiang Fei set down his cup and smiled faintly. "Since you have so much free time, perfect. Go follow up on the post-production editing for 'God of Gamblers'."
Wang Jing instantly deflated like a punctured ball. "Come on, Ah Fei... I still have to..."
"What?" Xiang Fei raised an eyebrow. "Unwilling?"
Wang Jing swallowed hard, forced a dry laugh, and said, "How could I be? I'm going right now!" With that, he turned and slunk away with the film box, muttering under his breath, "I shouldn't have come in the first place..."
Watching his retreating back, Xiang Fei couldn't help but laugh out loud. "This fatty..."
No sooner had Wang Jing left than a gentle knock sounded on the office door again.
"Come in."
The door opened, and Zhou Huimin walked in carrying an exquisite food box, a gentle smile on her face. "Are you done working?"
Xiang Fei immediately stood up, walked over quickly, and took the food box from her hands. "Didn't I tell you to rest at home? Why did you come running over again?"
Zhou Huimin reached out and straightened his tie. "You just got back and are already working; I was afraid you'd forget to eat." She opened the box to reveal a carefully prepared lunch. "It's all your favorites."
A warmth spread through Xiang Fei's heart. He took her hand. "Thank you. I'm hungry just in time."
As the two were talking, the office door was suddenly pushed open. A manager poked his head in. "Xiang Shao, that..." Seeing the scene inside, he immediately froze in embarrassment. "Uh, I'll come back later."
Zhou Huimin's face turned red, and she quickly pulled her hand back. Xiang Fei, however, smiled and held onto her. "It's fine. Come in."
The stage manager, head bowed, hurried in, dropped off some documents, and then scurried away as if fleeing.
Zhou Huimin lightly punched Xiang Fei. "Look, someone saw us."
Xiang Fei didn't care. "Let them see. My girlfriend is here; what's there to hide?"
A blush spread across Zhou Huimin's face, but her eyes were full of sweetness.
Just as the two were eating lunch, the office door was pushed open again. Xiang Tai strode in energetically, followed by seven or eight young actors.
"Ah Fei!" Xiang Tai beamed. "I've brought the people for you!"
Seeing Zhou Huimin there, Xiang Tai's eyes lit up. "Oh, Vivian is here too!"
Zhou Huimin quickly stood up. "Auntie, hello."
Xiang Tai affectionately took her hand. "So considerate, coming to deliver food to Ah Fei?"
Zhou Huimin nodded shyly.
Xiang Fei stood up and naturally put his arm around Zhou Huimin's shoulders. "Auntie, what is this?"
Xiang Tai then remembered her purpose, stepped aside, and introduced them one by one. "This is Zhu Yin, this is Cai Shaofen, this is Ng Man-tat..."
Zhu Yin waved playfully. "Hello, Xiang Shao! Hello, Sister Vivian!"
Cai Shaofen, slightly more reserved, bowed slightly. "Xiang Shao, Sister Vivian."
Ng Man-tat nodded with a chuckle. "Xiang Shao, I've long heard of your name! Vivian is getting more and more beautiful!"
The other new actors also bowed and greeted them in turn.
Xiang Fei nodded, his gaze sweeping over the group before finally settling on Xiang Tai. "Auntie's efficiency is always high."
Xiang Tai proudly lifted her chin. "Of course! These are all carefully selected promising talents; their acting and image are impeccable!"
She looked at Zhou Huimin, then at Xiang Fei, and suddenly smiled. "I think Vivian could come to Eternal Rise to act too; she shouldn't just focus on the music scene!"
Zhou Huimin's face turned red. "Auntie is joking."
Xiang Fei squeezed her shoulder. "That's something we can consider."
After the new actors had all left, Xiang Tai took Zhou Huimin's hand. "Vivian, if that boy Ah Fei dares to bully you, just tell me, and I'll teach him a lesson for you!"
Zhou Huimin smiled with her lips closed. "He won't."
Xiang Fei sighed helplessly. "Auntie, how would I dare?"
Xiang Tai nodded in satisfaction. "That's more like it." She checked her watch. "Alright, I have other matters; I'll leave first. You two chat slowly."
Only after Xiang Tai had left did Zhou Huimin finally relax. "Auntie is still so enthusiastic."
Xiang Fei smiled and pulled her into his arms. "She just likes you very much." He lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "Are you tired? Do you want to go to the lounge and take a nap?"
Zhou Huimin shook her head. "Not tired. I'll keep you company while you work."
Xiang Fei raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
Zhou Huimin nodded earnestly. "Mm, I can read the script nearby without disturbing you."
A warmth surged in Xiang Fei's heart. He took her hand. "Good, then we'll do it together."
Outside the window, the night view of Xiangjiang gradually lit up, with neon lights flickering.
Xiang Fei sat at his desk processing documents. Every time he looked up, he could see the profile of Zhou Huimin quietly reading the script.
Under the light, her eyelashes cast a faint shadow on her face, a beauty that made one's heart flutter.
Xiang Fei put down his pen, walked over, and sat beside her. "What are you reading so intently?"
Zhou Huimin looked up and smiled at him. "The script for 'Xiangjiang Good Voice'. I think a few segments could be improved."
Xiang Fei put his arm around her shoulder. "Don't overwork yourself; just leave these to Auntie."
Zhou Huimin leaned against his shoulder. "I want to help you."
A wave of warmth surged in Xiang Fei's heart. He lowered his head and kissed the top of her head. "It's so good to have you here."
