Chapter 77: Reform
At two in the morning, Xiang Fei sat at his desk in the study, an organizational chart of Yongsheng Pictures spread out before him.
Under the lamplight, his brows were tightly furrowed, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk.
"What a mess..."
He muttered softly, picked up a red pen, and drew a few circles on the paper.
Since its founding, Yongsheng Pictures had suffered from seriously overlapping departmental functions, uneven resource distribution, and frequent situations where several departments fought over the same project.
The Artist Department was especially bad—actors and singers mixed together, each manager fighting their own battle, leading to severe internal resource drain.
Xiang Fei took a deep breath, picked up a fountain pen, and began drafting a reform plan.
**1. Top-Level Structure**
- President: Xiang Qiang (in charge of strategic direction)
- Vice President: Xiang Sheng (responsible for external cooperation and investment)
- General Manager: Xiang Tai (responsible for daily operations and artist management)
2. Business Department Restructuring
- Film & TV Department: responsible for film production and distribution
- Music Department: responsible for records, concerts, and music rights
- Artist Department (split):
- Actors Group (film and TV drama actors)
- Singers Group (singers and bands)
- Directors Department: spun off independently, directly interfacing with film projects
- Publicity Department: integrated marketing, PR, and media relations
- Editing Department: unified management of post-production
3. New Departments
- Creative Department (directly managed by Xiang Fei):
- Script Group: full-time screenwriters, responsible for original and adapted scripts
- Lyrics & Composition Group: music creation, custom works for singers
After the final stroke, Xiang Fei rubbed his temples and glanced at the time—it was already four in the morning.
He closed the document and let out a long breath.
"Tomorrow, it all depends on their reaction..."
The next morning, Yongsheng Pictures' conference room.
Xiang Qiang sat in the main seat, Xiang Sheng sat with his legs crossed playing with a lighter, and Xiang Tai was flipping through the document in her hands.
Xiang Fei walked in, set the reform plan on the table, and said: "Uncle Qiang, Uncle Sheng, Auntie, there's something I'd like to discuss with you."
Xiang Qiang looked up: "What's so formal about it?"
Xiang Fei pushed the document over: "Yongsheng's current structure is too messy, resources are being wasted terribly. I want to do a thorough restructuring."
Xiang Sheng raised an eyebrow: "Restructuring? What do you mean?"
Xiang Tai had already opened the document, skimmed through it quickly, and frowned slightly: "A-Fei, you're planning a major shake-up?"
Xiang Fei nodded: "Yes, it has to be done."
Xiang Qiang finished reading the plan, pondered for a moment: "The Creative Department reports directly to you—so you're giving up being Executive President?"
Xiang Fei: "Yes. Scripts and music creation are the core of film, TV, and music—they have to be in my own hands. As for giving up the Executive President duties, I trust my uncles won't refuse to hear my opinion on this, right?"
Xiang Tai closed the document and looked at Xiang Qiang: "I think we can give it a try. It really is too messy right now."
Xiang Sheng, however, was not pleased: "What about me then? What happens to the people under me?"
Xiang Fei was well prepared: "Uncle Sheng, you continue to handle external cooperation and investment. No one is better at that than you."
Xiang Sheng narrowed his eyes: "And the Artist Department? My people are running it right now."
Xiang Fei said calmly: "The Artist Department has to be split—actors go to actors, singers go to singers. They can't be mixed together anymore."
Xiang Sheng slammed the table: "No! I don't agree!"
The conference room instantly fell silent.
Xiang Qiang rapped on the table: "A-Sheng, calm down."
Xiang Fei took a deep breath: "Uncle Sheng, do you know that right now our singers go act in films and our actors go sing, and the result is they please neither side?"
Xiang Sheng snorted: "So what? As long as it makes money!"
Xiang Fei shook his head: "It makes money short-term, but long-term it'll destroy Yongsheng's reputation."
Xiang Tai saw the situation and chimed in at the right moment: "A-Sheng, A-Fei has a point. Look at Shaw Brothers over there—after they separated actors and singers, didn't they develop even better?"
Xiang Sheng glared: "Whose side are you on?"
Xiang Tai said calmly: "I'm on Yongsheng's side."
Xiang Qiang finally spoke: "A-Fei, are you sure this change will improve efficiency?"
Xiang Fei nodded: "Absolutely. Right now, from project approval to release, there are far too many unnecessary steps in between—wasting time and resources."
Xiang Qiang thought for a moment, then looked at Xiang Sheng: "A-Sheng, let A-Fei give it a try."
Xiang Sheng couldn't believe it: "Big Brother! You're just going to let A-Fei run wild like this?"
Xiang Qiang's tone was firm: "He's not running wild—it's for Yongsheng's future."
Xiang Sheng saw Xiang Qiang's resolute attitude, knew he couldn't change it, and could only say sulkily: "Fine, you two have it your way!"
Xiang Fei breathed a sigh of relief: "Thank you, Uncle Sheng."
Xiang Tai smiled: "So how exactly do we implement it?"
Xiang Fei: "Complete the departmental adjustments within a week, reassign personnel. Those who don't want to cooperate..."
Xiang Qiang cut in: "Just leave."
Xiang Fei nodded: "Right."
Xiang Tai closed the file: "No problem from me. I'll take charge of breaking up the Artists Department."
Xiang Qiang stood up: "Then it's settled. Meeting adjourned."
The others filed out of the conference room one after another. Xiang Sheng walked out last, then suddenly turned his head to look at Xiang Fei: "A-Fei, don't disappoint me."
Xiang Fei met his gaze: "Uncle Sheng, I'll make Yongsheng number one in Xiangjiang."
