Chapter 11: Supernatural Realm

~8 min read 1,479 words

"By the way, what exactly is this 'Supernatural Realm' you mentioned earlier?" Yun Mu asked curiously, carrying the head while following behind the Guard girl, Lita.

"This, huh?" Lita carried the corpse on one shoulder as she walked in front, thinking for a moment before saying:

"It should be considered a stepping stone to entering the Supernatural realm; only by stepping into a certain Realm can one become a Transcendental."

"A Realm?"

"Right, just a Realm." Lita nodded, then furrowed her brows, seemingly troubled by how to explain it to her.

"It should be some kind of rule or something. My old man told me that the Realm everyone can step onto is different, all depending on luck, but most are suited to oneself."

"And besides stepping onto a Realm on one's own, there are also Transcendental who step onto corresponding Realms due to external influences, such as the clergy of various Churches, who all stepped onto the Realm of their respective gods due to the influence of the gods they worship."

"Oh." Yun Mu looked at the Path in her character panel, lost in thought.

She felt that Lita's explanation of the so-called Realm seemed very similar to the Path in her panel; after all, she had only unlocked the Scarlet Path after being influenced by the Scarlet Curse.

"This Path—ah, no, Realm—is it something everyone can comprehend?" Yun Mu asked, having almost slipped up.

"I suppose everyone can." Lita said with some uncertainty.

"It is said that doing corresponding things will increase the possibility of obtaining the corresponding Realm, but even for the same thing, if different people do it, the Realm comprehended might be completely different."

"For example, the family sword technique my old man taught me—the Realm he comprehended was Wave, but what I comprehended was Sea Pressure."

"I see." Yun Mu nodded.

In other words, if you want to become a Transcendental, you either use Supernatural Items to pay-to-win, or join a Church to become a grinder; otherwise, you just have to rely on luck.

Lita didn't know what she had actually understood, only saying with some distress: "Actually, I don't really understand it either. The Captain is quite familiar with this knowledge, though; perhaps you could ask him?"

"Let's forget about that." Yun Mu shook her head.

What was her status? She wanted to go ask the captain of the Supernatural Guard about questions related to the Supernatural Realm? She might as well just wash up and go to sleep.

However, this did remind her of something.

The fact that she was not dead was already known to that woman with scarlet eyes, and the other party had a way to find her.

This time, the other party retreated because of caution and the arrival of people from the Guard Hall, but what about next time?

Hiding in the sewer was no longer a safe option; she had to think of a new method.

Actively seeking the protection of the Guard Hall seemed like a pretty good choice.

But why would the Guard Hall protect her? Just because she knew what the killer looked like?

Once she handed over the killer's appearance, she would have no value to the Guard Hall for protection!

"That said, the killer's appearance still needs to be reported."

Only when that woman with scarlet eyes was thrown into prison or died could she rest easy.

Since there was a Guard Hall to help her deal with that woman, why shouldn't she go with the flow?

As for the retaliation it might invite—who cares? Would the other party not come looking for her if she didn't report their appearance?

"If you don't die, it's hard for me to feel at ease."

Thinking of this, a cold glint flashed in Yun Mu's eyes.

"Are we going out like this?"

The two arrived at the exit of the sewer. Yun Mu looked at the head in her hand, the handcuffs, and the pale, dried corpse covered in scarlet spots that Lita was carrying on her shoulder.

If they appeared on the street looking like this, it would probably cause a panic.

"It's fine."

"We'll take the back alleys and try not to attract attention," Lita said nonchalantly. "Even if someone sees us, the police uniform I'm wearing isn't just for show."

"The main thing is to avoid those guys who take pictures on the sly," she added as an explanation.

"Guys who take pictures on the sly?"

Yun Mu raised an eyebrow, roughly guessing what she was referring to.

"Let's go."

Lita climbed the ladder to the underside of the manhole cover, then reached out to push it open, before pushing the corpse she was carrying on her shoulder out through the exit.

"Where the hell did you mud-bloods come from? Get lost!"

A young man's voice came from the alley above the manhole cover, until he saw the appearance of the corpse pushed out from the manhole, and Lita, who was wearing a Police Guard Uniform, climbing out afterward.

"Hm?" Lita looked at the young man who had spoken, puzzled: "Is there something you need?"

"No, nothing!"

The young man stood up straight abruptly, then gave himself a fierce slap across the face, retreating from the alley while apologizing.

And after the young man left, Yun Mu also climbed out from the manhole.

"What's the situation?" She looked at Lita curiously and asked.

"Nothing, just a street loafer," Lita said casually.

Yun Mu looked at her with some strangeness.

The words the other party spoke were some kind of dialect; could this feeling also be translated into her brain?

As expected of the God of Civilization and History!

Lita noticed Yun Mu's strange gaze and thought she was surprised by her accent, so she explained: "My old man came from the Shattered Star Sea, and I've been influenced by it too. Sometimes I can't help it, hehe."

Shattered Star Sea?

Yun Mu had heard of that place; it was said to be an archipelago far away from the continent.

In the ancient era, due to a war between gods, a star died and fell into that sea area, which is why people called it the Shattered Star Sea.

In the predecessor's memory, it seemed to be a very mysterious place.

"What are you thinking about?" Lita's words pulled her thoughts back. She saw her replace the sewer manhole cover and then hoist the corpse back onto her shoulder.

"Nothing."

Yun Mu shook her head and followed Lita's footsteps.

Not long after, they arrived before the Gate of the Frostfall City Guard Hall.

This was a building in a very standard Frost Person style, constructed entirely of heat-retaining grey-black stone, with sharp, distinct edges and almost no flashy carvings or decorations.

It stood about twenty meters above ground and was divided into four floors; above the Gate on the first floor hung a metal-forged emblem of crossed swords set against a brass gear.

This was the insignia of the guard departments within the Frost Kingdom; it is said that other departments have similar patterns, mostly with the same brass gear base, differing only in the items above the gear.

The Supernatural Guard insignia that Lita had taken out earlier was simply the guard department's double swords changed from brass-colored to bright silver.

Besides the guard department's insignia, two blue and white striped flags representing the Frost Kingdom hung on the walls on both sides of the Guard Hall.

The two walked into the Guard Hall and were soon stopped by someone.

Yun Mu saw Lita exchange a few words with the Guard who had stopped them, and the other party left with a serious expression.

Not long after, accompanied by the sound of hurried footsteps, a middle-aged man with a tall build and a stubbly chin, also wearing a Police Guard Uniform, rushed over.

"Are you the third person at the crime scene besides the perpetrator and the victim?" the Guard Team Captain asked Yun Mu immediately upon arriving.

"It is me," Yun Mu nodded and said.

PS: Any rule or concept can potentially give birth to a corresponding Supernatural Realm; it is like the world's information database—once a concept appears, the corresponding information will exist.

Of course, the more powerful the realm, the more restrictions it has, and the harder it is to control.

Furthermore, many realms are already controlled by certain deities; mortals can certainly step onto these realms controlled by deities, but they will inevitably be influenced to some degree by the deity at the pinnacle of that controlled realm.

However, there is no phenomenon where if a deity stands above, those below cannot ascend; as one's level increases, even if everyone controls the same realm, it will differentiate into different branches.

If there is a deity above, you just branch off and ascend.
