Chapter 535: Liu Boss Goes Out of His Way

~10 min read 1,957 words

Yutu Company's new office and filming base, including its permanent residents and filming staff, extras, and other personnel.

Without exaggeration, at least ten thousand people make their living here.

With so many people flowing through, they must consume, so supermarkets, express delivery services, drinks, snacks, and other shops are extremely popular.

Lu Dabo's parents and younger sister are rural folks; opening a supermarket here with his protection would guarantee steady profits.

His sister is a college student, but finding a job now is hard—she's only getting jobs paying three or four thousand, better to run her own business.

Running a supermarket, calculating accounts, ordering inventory—doesn't that beat working for others by a hundredfold?

"Why don't you just tell him yourself?" Liu Tianxian found this strange; Lu Dabo and Fang Hong got along well.

Of course, that was her impression—in reality, they were merely superior and subordinate, just closer than most such relationships.

After all, they'd taken many blame bags together for Fang Hong, but to say they were close friends? That didn't exist.

Fang Hong no longer does what he used to.

"I'm afraid the Principal won't agree," Lu Dabo admitted honestly—he had no confidence.

But Liu Tianxian's connection speaks for itself; if she asked, the Principal would never refuse—it's said the Principal fears his wife.

Even if he refused, there'd still be room to maneuver, since she's his wife; if Lu Dabo asked, and he flatly refused, there'd be no room left at all.

"Do you think he'll agree just because I say it?" Liu Tianxian thought this man was cunning—he wouldn't speak himself, but made her do it.

"Please, Sister Fei, I beg you! I'll be your servant for life if you help!" Lu Dabo clasped his hands together, pleading.

Seeing him like this, Liu Tianxian smiled slightly; she was kind-hearted, and said, "Actually, you shouldn't even tell Fang Hong—you can decide this yourself."

Logically, Fang Hong shouldn't interfere in such a small matter; with Lu Dabo's current status and connections, this should be easily arranged.

"It's not like that," Lu Dabo sighed. "Everything at the film base—from meals to the cleaning lady—must be approved by the Principal. If he says no, nothing gets done."

What they didn't know was that Fang Hong placed special importance on this film base—every planning detail, every arrangement, he personally oversaw, forbidding anyone from overstepping.

It was like his own city; the stakes were too high—he couldn't afford major corruption, so how could he not pay attention?

"He oversees everything?" Liu Tianxian was surprised. Wouldn't that kill him?

"Yes, everything. I'm afraid he'll just shut me down outright for this small thing," Lu Dabo worried.

If nothing unexpected happened, it was very possible—the Principal hated nepotism most of all.

"Alright, I'll try speaking up for you," Liu Tianxian chose to help—after all, this was Lu Dabo's family's livelihood.

How could she refuse when it was someone's family survival?

"Thank you, Sister Fei," Lu Dabo was grateful.

With Liu Tianxian involved, this matter was probably settled—after all, they were husband and wife.

"Don't thank me yet," Liu Tianxian pointed a finger at him. "You said you'd be my servant for life."

"Absolutely—if this works, I'll be your servant for life," Lu Dabo said.

"And if it doesn't work, you won't be my servant anymore?" Liu Tianxian teased him, just joking.

"I will! I absolutely will! Being your servant for life is my greatest fortune," Lu Dabo quickly pledged loyalty.

Aligning with Liu Tianxian was more reliable than aligning with the Principal—the Principal was too cold-hearted, while Liu Tianxian was softer.

"Then wait for my news," Liu Tianxian smiled, waving to signal him to stay.

Lu Dabo stopped where he was, watching Liu Tianxian's retreating figure—she was truly easy to get along with, no distance between them, still joking as usual.

Some workers nearby couldn't help glancing at Liu Tianxian's departing form—a beautiful sight against the snow.

Lu Dabo turned and returned to where the statue stood; a junior eagerly handed him a cigarette: "Bo-ge."

Lu Dabo took it, put it between his lips, and reached for his lighter—but the junior already offered him a flame.

"The Left Ear, I heard you used to be a reconnaissance soldier? Why'd you get discharged?" Lu Dabo, cigarette in mouth, leaned close to the flame to light it.

His eyes were fixed on the statue slowly being repositioned.

"Ah, once during a mission, an accident damaged my ear a bit," The Left Ear touched his left ear.

"You seem perfectly normal to me," Lu Dabo had never noticed anything wrong—he always heard him fine.

"Normal hearing's fine, but I sometimes get tinnitus, not as sharp as before. With this, I couldn't carry out missions anymore, so I had to switch careers." The Left Ear smiled in explanation.

Reconnaissance soldiers need to see all six directions and hear all eight—any problem with eyes or ears meant disqualification.

"So they must've assigned you a job? Why end up here?" Lu Dabo was puzzled.

"The pay's too low," The Left Ear said. "I didn't want to spend my whole life as a security guard—pathetic. I wanted to latch onto a rich person as a bodyguard—fits my skills and my style."

Hearing this, Lu Dabo turned and stared at him in surprise—wearing a thick military coat, looking rustic, hair like a messy chicken coop—this was "style"?

His face was decent—angular, not handsome, but he'd been a soldier, so that was normal.

"But you shouldn't have come to Yutu Company," Lu Dabo said. "I'm not a security firm."

"Mainly because I had no connections," The Left Ear said. "I heard Yutu has lots of female stars, so they'd need many bodyguards—I came over."

"Ah, I see right through you—you've got ulterior motives! You're here to chase female stars, not to be a guard—confess!" Lu Dabo pinched his cigarette between fingers, grabbed the man's throat, and shook his head.

"No no, Bo-ge, you've misunderstood!"

The Left Ear was shaken but didn't get angry—he knew it was just play. He added: "I just want to look respectable. A fellow soldier told me stars are generous—if you keep your mouth shut, you'll never go hungry or poor. They're willing to spend money."

"That's true," Lu Dabo agreed.

Stars had many sordid affairs—Yutu Company had them too, as far as he knew, but no one spoke up. The Principal managed this tightly—if anyone talked, they'd be cut off from the entire circle; no one would hire a loose-lipped bodyguard.

And working as a bodyguard for those stars meant wearing suits daily—it was indeed respectable work.

He patted The Left Ear's shoulder: "I'll look into it—if there's an opportunity, I'll introduce you to someone as a bodyguard."

"Thank you, Bo-ge!" The Left Ear was delighted.

With Bo-ge's connection, his chance to become a bodyguard still had hope.

"But I warn you—I'll introduce you, but this job means seeing, hearing, and never speaking—you understand?" Lu Dabo taught him.

"I understand—we had confidentiality rules in the army too," The Left Ear said solemnly.

"That's good." Lu Dabo nodded, already searching in his mind for who to recommend a bodyguard to.

Yu Tu has many celebrity artists, so demand for security is still quite high.

On the other side, Liu Tianxian walked into the lobby of an office building; everyone she passed greeted her, calling her "Fei Jie."

Almost everyone here knew her and knew she was the boss's wife, so they were very warm.

The office building's lobby was spacious and bright, with marble flooring and a crystal chandelier hanging above, giving a sense of grandeur and a fresh atmosphere.

With such a lobby, the prestige immediately rose—it hadn't existed before; the previous place had been rented.

At the front desk sat a pretty young girl, who smiled and bowed to greet Liu Tianxian.

Liu Tianxian nodded in response, then took the elevator up to the seventh floor.

This office building was only seven floors high—no taller, because anything higher would be inappropriate and unnecessary; the land was more than sufficient.

Moreover, seven floors was the most suitable height for a single building; going higher would require review and compliance with certain regulations, which was unnecessary trouble.

Liu Tianxian stepped out of the elevator and walked curiously into an office area, where staff were arranging office chairs—likely new ones.

Others were installing computers and other office equipment.

"Fei Jie." Ouyang Xue spotted her and called out; everyone else greeted her too.

"You all keep working." Liu Tianxian pointed to an office: "Is Fang Zong inside?"

"He is." Ouyang Xue nodded.

Liu Tianxian pushed open a luxurious wooden double door and saw at once a lavishly decorated office.

This office was somewhat larger than before, with a work area, a rest area, and a reception area, arranged with great taste—greenery and furniture placed neatly.

All the furniture was new; the old pieces had been sold.

She saw her husband Fang Hong, one foot propped on a coffee table, one hand holding a plaque, the other wiping dust off it with a towel.

The plaque bore the characters: Tandang!

It was the same one Liu Tianxian had once misread as "Dangfu," and it now had glass installed over it.

"Wow, you've made it so much bigger." Liu Tianxian closed the office door and admired the surroundings.

"The old one was too cramped—it no longer matched my status, so I made it bigger." Fang Hong, seeing her enter, showed no surprise.

"You, Master Fang, are becoming more and more impressive." Liu Tianxian walked to the desk, placed her bag on it, and shrugged off her fluffy mink coat, tossing it onto the boss's chair.

Underneath, she wore a high-neck black sweater and black flared pants, accentuating her tall figure.

"Don't flatter me—it's all thanks to Boss Liu's favor that I'm Master Fang today." Fang Hong bowed his head in praise.

"Hey, your tongue's still sweet." Liu Tianxian stepped closer to him, glancing at the plaque: "Why don't you replace this calligraphy?"

"This calligraphy has warned me for years and accompanied me for years—how could I throw it away? I'm someone who values the past." Fang Hong glanced at her.

"Don't give me that—I see you've replaced all the furniture." Liu Tianxian looked around; indeed, everything had been replaced.

"In a person's lifetime, you can let go of anything—but there are two things you must never lose." Fang Hong raised two fingers.

"What two things?" Liu Tianxian asked, puzzled.

"Belief. True feeling." Fang Hong spoke these four words with genuine conviction.

Liu Tianxian smiled faintly—this speech sounded pleasant enough; after all, she was the one he could never lose; they were bound by true feeling.

She crossed her hands over Fang Hong's shoulders, rested her chin on them, and leaned in to smile: "Hey, I've got something to tell you."

"What is it?" Fang Hong said.

"Lu Dabo said his parents and sister have no jobs—he asked me to tell you they want to open a supermarket in this film base. What do you think?" As she spoke, her breath was sweet, drifting across Fang Hong's face.

They were close enough that speaking let them feel each other's breath.

"If he told you, then you agree to him." Fang Hong didn't care—he dropped the towel and set the plaque down.

To him, this was just a small matter.

"So quick? I thought I'd have to argue for a while." Liu Tianxian said.

"If my wife asks, and I say no, I'd be ungrateful indeed." Fang Hong chuckled.

"You're quite sensible." Liu Tianxian grinned happily—just because this man was making her happy, and of course, Lu Dabo's matter was settled.

It wasn't a big deal to begin with.
