Chapter 73: Just Have Faith (Uncle Figures, Please Follow)
Fang Hong returned to the office and saw Li Min closing a file: "How's it going?"
"It seems General Manager Fang did his homework."
Li Min placed the file on the desk and looked up at the man standing beside him.
Fang Hong asked directly: "So what's your take?"
Li Min fell silent, still unable to make up his mind—this decision would shape his entire career.
Leaving Tencent for such an obscure company took courage; Tencent was still a major domestic firm with solid benefits and prospects.
And Tencent was still in its rapid growth phase!
At this point, Tencent wasn't yet the behemoth it would become—it hadn't shifted its investment strategy and was still in the copycat stage, with 360, Sina, Pig Factory all challenging it on multiple fronts.
Even Mi Talk, about to launch, was threatening its core social platform.
Though Tencent eventually rose from these challenges, by today's standards, it hadn't truly risen—only grown large.
"Alright, go think it over yourself. I've got other matters—I won't keep you." Fang Hong didn't elaborate further.
He didn't want Li Min thinking he was indispensable, that the company couldn't function without him, trying to play hard to get.
Impossible. Fang Hong could just find someone else—any tech guy with programming experience could do it; he didn't need this man to make the game.
It would just cost more time and effort.
He picked Li Min only because his later resume looked impressive, proving he truly had brains.
Li Min noticed Fang Hong's sudden coolness and felt disregarded—his heart sank.
Just moments ago, Fang Hong had been so warm: picking him up in a car, showing him around the company, even letting him see the design documents—his sincerity had been undeniable, yet Li Min had hesitated.
He stood up and faced Fang Hong: "General Manager Fang, I want to know—why me?"
"No reason. I never need a reason to choose anyone. I just have faith in you. If someone I have faith in looks down on me, I won't beg him to stay."
Fang Hong spoke with strong authority.
It startled Li Min—because Fang Hong's words carried unshakable confidence, a presence that radiated "power."
It made his face twitch slightly.
"Remember—you'd be leading a game here. When would you ever get that chance at Tencent?" Fang Hong softened his tone slightly.
Indeed, Tencent was packed with talent, fiercely competitive, and promotions relied on seniority—here, he wouldn't need to wait.
He could lead development immediately.
The choice tipped the balance: "Can I have some time? I need to handle my resignation."
"No problem! Let's have a fruitful partnership." Fang Hong extended his hand.
"Pleasant partnership!"
Their hands clasped.
Fang Hong added: "My company is just starting—no team yet. If you can bring people over, all the better."
In other words: poach talent!
"Fine!"
Li Min reached out, knowing he was the first to join to make games here.
That's how people were: hesitant when praised, instantly submissive when met with force.
Because Fang Hong's money and aura both pressed down on him—he'd seized control from the start.
The two walked out of the office. Li Min noticed the workspace was empty and asked, puzzled: "Why is no one here?"
"Everyone left."
Fang Hong gave only that brief reply, too lazy to explain further.
Why waste money playing nice with you?
Li Min was confused—it wasn't even quitting time. Did this company really end work so early?
Li Min left. Next time he came, he'd be joining the Yutu family—and then he'd understand what 996 meant.
Though he was gone, Fang Hong's work wasn't over.
He still needed to buy hardware and software—none of it cheap—and hire more people.
Game development took time; during this period, he'd be spending money with zero income.
No money was fine—but once you had money, there were always places to spend it.
This wouldn't do. He needed to send Yu Xian to the United States as soon as possible—once the film wrapped, it'd be done.
Fang Hong pushed open the meeting room door. The main crew of *To Our Youth* were in session.
Over twenty key staff members were inside, along with the lead actors and supporting cast—all turned to look at Fang Hong.
Chen Zhixi wasn't there—she was probably with the screenwriters.
After all, filming was about to start—he needed to see how far they'd gotten.
The drama was being written as it was shot; Fang Hong never intended to make anything great—just toss in melodramatic clichés like abortions. Audiences loved to curse and watch.
"This is our producer," Yu Xian introduced.
"Hello," Fang Hong greeted them.
Mostly he greeted the actors—he already knew the behind-the-scenes crew.
"Hello!"
"Hello!"
"."
Yang Zishan, Yaya, Jiang Shuying, and other newcomers also greeted him—they'd never met him before.
Aside from the male lead and Han Geng's role being replaced, all other roles remained unchanged.
Han Geng was too popular, too expensive—they couldn't afford him.
So they gave his role to Li Xian instead; this guy was willing to take it at a friend's discount and knew how to seize opportunities.
Plus, he's perfect—he's naturally a gentleman-type character!
Whether it was fate or something else, only minor changes occurred among the cast; the core group remained largely the same.
These people are all small-timers right now; what stands out is their low cost!
After introductions, Fang Hong asked: "Where are we in the process?"
"All personnel are in place. Equipment and props can be rented in Chongqing. Today, I, Producer Chen, and Wang Ran will head to Chongqing first to make arrangements; the other actors and crew will follow in a couple of days," Yu Xian said.
It seemed Chen Zhixi had already sorted everything out—apparently, this woman was growing increasingly skilled in the role of Producer.
After all, she'd already produced two films, and she was naturally smart.
Besides, the core team was fixed; they only needed to confirm the actors.
"Good, as long as it's arranged." Fang Hong now had far less to worry about.
"You should come with us to Chongqing later!" Yu Xian said.
"Me?" Fang Hong pointed at himself.
"Yes, if you're the Producer, you're not going to sit back and try to manage remotely, are you?" Yu Xian said.
"I'd rather not go—having you is enough."
Fang Hong had no time to go to Chongqing—he still had to oversee the post-production of "33 Days of Losing Love," and the film's promotional campaign needed organizing.
Plus, his mother was coming to Beijing—he simply had no time!
"Damn, you really have a lot of faith in me."
Yu Xian was speechless; this guy was handing off everything too completely.
Then why even take the title of Producer?
"Of course I have faith in you—I have faith in everyone here. You're all great," Fang Hong said, handing out compliments like they cost nothing.
Mostly because Chen Zhixi was in charge—he didn't need to worry at all.
He only needed to oversee the artistic direction; letting Wang Ran send him the footage was enough—no need to complicate things.
"Hehehe!"
This made everyone in the meeting room chuckle slightly—he really knew how to joke.
Only Yu Xian felt the most pressure—he couldn't laugh.
