Chapter 212: Wrath of Infernal Frost (Part 5)
Battles between plane and plane ought to be cosmic spectacles sufficient to shake the soul.
Yet, situated inside the Ship Plane as a mere component of a colossal war machine, Gao Jie Ming's feelings were somewhat complex—very thrilling,
but also somewhat boring.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
On the light screen, beams of energy capable of vaporizing mountain ranges with ease tore through the void, slamming heavily into the living Infernal Frost Plane below.
Every hit was accompanied by a deafening roar, along with soul fluctuations emitted by the plane itself that resembled agonized shrieks.
The living plane was equally unwilling to show weakness; its massive magma maw spewed flames that burned everything to ash, while the qi clouds formed from its eyes stirred up energy storms powerful enough to distort the void.
Both sides displayed numerous variations and exquisite calculations in their offensive and defensive tactics.
Through the main control screen inside the node, Gao Jie Ming could see simulated data for various energy transmissions, rune linkages, and elemental tides.
But from the outside, the two planes seemed merely to be frantically blasting massive energy cannons at each other—simple, crude, and lacking in spectacle.
As for Gao Jie Ming's own task, it was boring to the extreme.
As a gear, an insignificant part within the vast war machine, all he had to do was follow commands transmitted from the Magic Net terminal to manipulate his node with precision.
Increase energy output, shift rune frequency, stabilize spatial fluctuations—round and round it went.
One could not say his task was useless, for the normal operation of every node affected the Ship Plane's offensive and defensive efficiency.
But he indeed felt no sense of participation.
More often than not, Gao Jie Ming felt like an audience member sitting in a control room watching an epic film.
"The tension is certainly full; after all, if the Ship Plane loses, we die too. This is a genuine plane war," Gao Jie Ming couldn't help but complain inwardly.
This pressure of life and death instead brought him a sliver of special thrill, preventing him from falling asleep out of boredom.
However, even though the battle between both sides was raging like fire and tea, with external energy fluctuations nearly tearing the entire void apart,
Gao Jie Ming's side remained idle enough for him to have the leisure to carefully observe the situation on the field.
"Something's wrong—"
Suddenly, Gao Jie Ming's heart stirred; from the data stream, he abruptly discovered something amiss!
For when Augustine manipulated the Ship Plane against the wrath of the living Infernal Frost Plane, it had actually not fallen into a disadvantage?!
This somewhat exceeded his expectations.
He admitted that the Ship Plane itself, having undergone extensive modifications by the wizards, possessed an internal structure—from its core energy furnace to its outer armor—far superior in strength to ordinary planes.
Moreover, the wizards manipulating this war fortress numbered in the tens of thousands, all elites.
Prior to this, the Infernal Frost Plane had also suffered a heavy blow from Augustine's move, "Leyline Core Strike," taking severe damage,
leaving many of its powers unable to be fully unleashed.
But it was not that Gao Jie Ming looked down upon Master Augustine.
Although as a Level Six Wizard, his power was unfathomably deep.
Yet, based on the knowledge Gao Jie Ming possessed regarding "living planes," there was no reason the wizards' side should gain even the slightest upper hand in this purely "mass-based" confrontation; even maintaining balance would present enormous difficulties!
That the wizards' strength was great was beyond doubt.
Relying on their profound understanding of various kinds of knowledge, they could fight above their weight and overcome the strong with the weak when facing most beings across the Endless Planes.
But unfortunately, entities like "living planes" happened to be the "fish that slipped through the net"!
Such special existences possessing self-will could not only easily crush wizards of the same level but could even counter-attack and slay wizard experts one level higher.
The fundamental reason lay in this: for life forms formed by the plane itself, their "mass" was simply too exaggerated.
According to the wizards' classification of life levels, such existences as living planes reached the tier of Level Six beings the moment they were born.
However, unlike wizards who, even upon reaching Level Six, had only completely mastered one or a few rules—
even some smaller living planes, at the moment of their birth, could completely master at least several million complete fundamental rules!
And for slightly larger living planes like the Infernal Frost Plane, capable of birthing special races such as Lava Giants and Snow Monsters, the number of rules they completely mastered could easily exceed the unit of "hundred million"!
The reason wizards held such a dominant position in the Endless Planes relied primarily on their formidable combat power.
And the source of the wizards' powerful combat power came from the "elemental leverage" pried open through their own knowledge, allowing their power to erupt with greater multipliers.
At the level of a Level Six Wizard, besides knowledge, there was also the support of complete rules; exploding one unit of power into an effect hundreds of thousands of times greater was no difficulty, and excellent wizards might even explode millions of times more power.
But living planes, from the moment of their birth, possessed rule systems numbering in the millions, tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions!
Even if, in terms of the depth of control over a single rule, living planes could not match the "microscopic control" pursued to the extreme by Level Six Wizards,
they triumphed through absolute crushing superiority in quantity.
Any single wizardly rule attack would be distributed and weakened by their vast sea of rule systems.
Just this point alone was sufficient for living planes to suppress an ordinary Level Six Wizard in rule confrontations,
let alone the fact that the energy and matter contained within a living plane itself was countless times that of a Level Six Wizard!
Even with the Ship Plane serving as supplementation and compensation, looking at the paper data alone, relying solely on normal wizard methods to defeat a living plane was nearly an impossible task.
Yet the fact was, Master Augustine was currently fighting the living plane on equal terms, showing absolutely no sign of falling into a disadvantage.
Every attack from the Ship Plane caused the living plane to emit an angry roar.
And the counterattacks of the living plane were all perfectly blocked by the Ship Plane's sturdy defensive barriers.
After carefully observing the data fed back from the Ship Plane, as well as the strongly discordant energy fluctuations accompanying the movements of the living Infernal Frost Plane below, Gao Jie Ming couldn't help but guess in his heart:
"The injuries caused by this Leyline Core Strike seem to be greater than anticipated?"
He noticed that every counterattack from the living plane was accompanied by a faint but real tremor originating from within.
Its core energy transmission also seemed to possess a massive fault line.
The living plane, at this very moment, was enduring immense pain!
Because of this pain, it could not gather its full power.
Therefore, much of the power that could have been unleashed remained in a suppressed state.
"Not pain?!"
Gao Jie Ming's heart jolted violently, and memories of Viola's previously morbidly joyful expression and words flashed through his mind.
Almost instinctively, he whipped his head around to look at Viola beside him, who had been watching the light screen outside the porthole with such keen interest.
The morbid excitement on Viola's face reached its peak, the corners of her mouth curling into an evil arc.
It was as if she had anticipated Gao Jie Ming discovering this truth all along; the moment he turned to look at her, the cunning and bloodthirstiness in her eyes could no longer be concealed.
"Oh my? You discovered it?"
