Chapter 18: I Haven't Touched Her
He said coldly, "At least you still have a bit of conscience."
Gu Tingyan didn't feel much joy upon hearing this; he was deathly silent, and he crushed the cigarette between his fingertips into the ashtray.
Jiang Xubai held the medicine in his hand: "Take off your clothes."
Gu Tingyan took off his clothes cleanly and efficiently.
Jiang Xubai saw the wound on his back and the corner of his mouth twitched: "Are you sick? The wound cannot touch water!"
"You are an adult, don't you understand that yourself?"
Gu Tingyan's brows were dark and heavy, looking very impatient, and he ordered: "Stop with the nonsense, hurry up and treat it."
Originally, Gu Tingyan had planned to go to the hospital, but thinking of that figure curled up on the bed, his heart ached, and he couldn't walk away.
Jiang Xubai sneered and disinfected his wound and applied medicine without any gentleness; his force was heavy, aimed at hurting Gu Tingyan to death.
As a result, after he finished bandaging, Gu Tingyan didn't even let out a sound, though a layer of cold sweat had broken out on his back and forehead.
Seeing this, Jiang Xubai felt a bit bad himself.
He sneered: "I really owe you."
"Tomorrow I'm having a gathering with Sheng, you come along; we were always together in the past."
"You should coax her well; you have such a long history together, you can't just break up like that."
Gu Tingyan put on his clothes in a slow and methodical manner; his cheeks felt cool, and he said with a cold face: "I won't go."
He had a prior agreement with Qin Shu; if he went, she would have a reason to divorce him.
Gu Tingyan did not want to divorce her.
Jiang Xubai's face also turned cold; he looked around, didn't see Qin Shu, and wore a mocking expression on his face.
He gave a cold huff: "Is it Qin Shu who won't let you go?"
Gu Tingyan said coldly: "It has nothing to do with her."
Jiang Xubai gave a cold laugh: "So that's it."
He asked: "Sheng is back, what do you plan to do?"
Gu Tingyan didn't even lift his eyes: "What do you mean, what do I plan to do?"
Jiang Xubai looked at him and frowned: "You don't plan to divorce Qin Shu?"
"Sheng has suffered for five years because of you."
"Gu Tingyan, if you have any conscience, hurry up and deal with Qin Shu."
Jiang Xubai knitted his brows: "It's just that being a stepmother is quite unfair to Sheng."
"My son has his own biological mother; she doesn't need to rush to be a stepmother."
His expression was gloomy: "Do you really plan to spend your whole life with her?"
Although Jiang Xubai later learned that for that original marriage, Gu Tingyan had also been deceived by the Gu Family and the Chu Family, who were afraid that he wouldn't be able to bear the blow of Chu Sheng's death and his own crippled legs, and would go seek death.
But he still couldn't get over his anger.
Having studied abroad all these years, his anger had mostly dissipated.
Gu Tingyan's complexion was terrifyingly gloomy, and a ball of rage was burning in his chest; why did everyone want him to get a divorce!
Not a single person supported him.
Even Qin Shu was now making a scene to divorce him.
Gu Tingyan was so angry his liver and heart ached, and his face was covered in frost: "I never thought about getting a divorce."
He looked up coldly at Jiang Xubai, his voice as if wrapped in ice: "Say that again, and don't blame me for being heartless!"
Jiang Xubai was startled by his cold gaze; the two had grown up together, and he had never seen Gu Tingyan this angry.
Jiang Xubai clenched his fists, his voice suddenly rising, looking at Gu Tingyan's cold and thin face in disbelief: "You won't divorce Qin Shu, and you still want to abandon Sheng for a second time?"
Gu Tingyan's eyes were filled with blood, his chest heaving, and he looked at Jiang Xubai with a sharp gaze: "Damn it, I owe her!"
Gu Tingyan's eyes were blood-red, and he roared and bellowed: "Do you want me to pay her back with this life too!"
"When I was crippled, you all forced me to marry; now that I can stand up, you all want me to divorce!"
"Did you all conspire together?"
Gu Tingyan raised his hand and smashed the ashtray in his hand out, his face ferocious, gloomy and terrifying: "What about Qin Shu? In the eyes of you people, what does Qin Shu count as?"
"Has any of you ever considered her feelings?"
Gu Tingyan's fingers trembled slightly, his eyes were scarlet, and he lowered his head, his voice hoarse: "Yesterday she was almost crushed to death, just barely."
"I traded my wife's life for this life of Chu Sheng."
The man's eyes were blood-red: "What else do you want from me?"
Gu Tingyan had calculated everything, but he hadn't expected Qin Shu to appear in the ancient town, and even less did he expect such an accident to happen.
Chu Sheng had just slit her wrists and attempted suicide and had just been discharged from the hospital; Qin Shu was healthier than her, so he could only choose to save Chu Sheng first.
But he was not omniscient, and not everything could be under his control.
If it weren't for Ji Yanli, the one lying in the morgue would have been Qin Shu.
He saved Chu Sheng, but almost lost his own wife.
Jiang Xubai's face turned pale; he stood there, heart pounding, watching the crazed Gu Tingyan, his heart surging with stormy waves, his eyes complex.
Jiang Xubai looked at Gu Tingyan and said in a low voice: "You should calm down, I'm heading back first."
Jiang Xubai carried his medical kit and walked out of the Gu Family villa.
Gu Tingyan stood where he was, closed his eyes, and leaned against the window to light a cigarette; the smoke curled, and his tall, straight back seemed shrouded in a bit of desolation.
After his emotions had completely calmed down, Gu Tingyan extinguished the cigarette in his hand and lifted his feet to go upstairs.
Bedroom.
Gu Tingyan opened the door and entered; seeing the person curled up on the bed, he got into bed, held Qin Shu tighter in his arms, rested his chin on her shoulder, softened his posture, and whispered: "Huahua, I haven't touched her."
Qin Shu had already woken up when Gu Tingyan hugged her from behind, but she kept her eyes closed, feigning sleep; upon hearing his words, her eyelashes trembled.
Gu Tingyan brushed her hair aside, pressed his palm against her cheek, and coaxed Qin Shu in a gentle, soft voice: "If you don't like her, I won't see her in private from now on."
"We can go back to living well just like before, hmm?"
Qin Shu opened her eyes and turned her head to look at him: "As long as you manage to ignore Chu Sheng for one month."
"Then we can continue to live well."
Gu Tingyan held her tightly, as if wanting to merge her into his own flesh and blood, his voice hoarse: "Alright, I promise you."
Qin Shu also did not want Chenchen to lose a happy home; clearly, their relationship had already improved over these past two years, yet Chu Sheng had returned.
As soon as Chu Sheng returned, Gu Tingyan's heart had drifted away.
Qin Shu stared into the void with open eyes, one hand pressed against her chest, curling her body up as she tried her best to resist the waves of pain.
Gu Tingyan, I hope you can keep your word.
But, can you really do it?
Qin Shu only wanted to try one last time; she did not want Chenchen to be without a father just like she was.
The next day.
When Qin Shu woke up, the other side of the bed was already empty.
After she finished washing up and went downstairs, Gu Yichen was already sitting obediently at the table eating breakfast; Gu Tingyan sat at the other end of the table, and seeing Qin Shu come down, he greeted her: "Eat breakfast."
"I will take Chenchen to school today."
Hearing that Gu Tingyan was going to take him to school, Gu Yichen was very happy; he did not show it too obviously, only looking at Gu Tingyan with bright, sparkling eyes: "Really? Does Dad have time to take me to school?"
