Chapter 35: Gu Yichen Sees Qin Shu Kneeling in the Ancestral Hall

~8 min read 1,420 words

Lin Jingshu was stunned: "What?"

Qin Shu looked at Lin Jingshu, her eyes curving into crescents as she smiled, a smile from the bottom of her heart: "Mom, let me call you Mom one last time."

"From now on, you won't have to look at me with displeasure."

Qin Shu: "Because, your son and I will have nothing to do with each other from now on."

"You can find whoever you want to be your daughter-in-law."

Qin Shu was extremely happy: "You won't be able to control me ever again!"

After saying this, Qin Shu hugged that potted cactus, straightened her back, and left happily.

When Qin Shu brushed past Lin Jingshu, she was completely stunned.

Qin Shu had latched onto the Gu Family; was she actually willing to divorce?

Lin Jingshu followed her, watching as Qin Shu entered a strange residential complex.

With anger simmering in her eyes, she sat in her car and called Gu Tingyan: "Qin Shu says you two are divorced?"

Gu Tingyan was silent, knowing she had run into Qin Shu.

Gu Tingyan: "Yes."

"The process is underway."

Lin Jingshu's voice was sharp: "Did she cheat? Is there someone else?"

Otherwise, now that Gu Tingyan's legs were better and he could stand, why would she want a divorce? Had she lost her mind?

Gu Tingyan: "Mom, I might cheat, but she would never."

"Don't speculate maliciously about her."

Lin Jingshu felt a lump in her heart: "She instigated you to move out."

"She made you live apart from us; she is not a good person!"

Gu Tingyan's voice turned cold: "Moving out was my idea."

"It has nothing to do with her."

Gu Tingyan: "I did it for your own good, so you wouldn't have to look at Qin Shu with displeasure every day and get sick from the anger."

Lin Jingshu couldn't catch her breath; he was clearly taking the blame for Qin Shu while still using the excuse of doing it for her own good.

Unable to win the argument, Lin Jingshu hung up the phone directly: "I'm done talking to you."

Qin Shu thought that just because they were divorcing, she could no longer be manipulated; she was simply dreaming.

Lin Jingshu made a call to Qin Shu: "Come to the Old Residence, otherwise, I will send Gu Yichen away today."

"You will never see him again!"

Qin Shu gripped her phone; upon hearing this, before she could even speak, her face turned slightly pale, and the call was disconnected.

Qin Shu had always known her mother-in-law was not to be trifled with; she had thought that since she was almost divorced, she would finally stop having to listen to her lectures.

She had enjoyed a moment of verbal satisfaction.

But she had forgotten that they hadn't fully divorced yet, and the child was still at the Old Residence.

Lin Jingshu meant what she said; she had the ability to hide the child so that she would never see him again.

Qin Shu's originally happy mood was instantly clouded, and her straight spine slumped once more.

She grabbed her keys, went out, and took a taxi to the Old Residence.

Deep down, Qin Shu felt a strong resistance toward this deep, terrifying Old Residence; the pitch-black house was overly quiet, as still as if there were no living things, and the air was filled with damp moisture.

She looked up at the deep mansion, which was like a giant abyss capable of swallowing a person's soul and crushing them within.

Unless it was an absolute last resort, she never wanted to come here.

But she had come anyway.

Qin Shu walked through the hall and saw the old woman who served Lin Jingshu, Chen Ma.

Chen Ma swept a haughty glance at Qin Shu; she, too, looked down on Qin Shu's background, feeling that she had tarnished the Gu Family's most noble Eldest Young Master.

"The Madam does not want to see you."

Qin Shu knew that, of course; she just wanted to teach Qin Shu a lesson.

Chen Ma looked at her coldly: "The Madam says for you to go to the ancestral hall and kneel until she is satisfied."

Qin Shu was not the least bit surprised, lifting her eyelids slightly: "Understood."

She retracted all her thorns, turning back into the tamed and obedient daughter-in-law of the Gu Family.

Qin Shu knelt in the ancestral hall with her back straight, her eyes cast down at the smooth marble floor, her hands at her sides clenched tightly into fists.

No matter the cost, she had to take the child away.

Qin Shu could not let Gu Yichen stay by Lin Jingshu's side for the rest of his life, becoming a cold and heartless heir raised by her.

Qin Shu knelt in the ancestral hall for a full three hours, and Lin Jingshu did not let her get up.

This was the price for Qin Shu's rudeness today.

Gu Yichen was brought back from school by Lin Jingshu; seeing her face set in a terrifying expression, he knew Qin Shu had come.

Only when his mother came would his grandmother show such a cold and terrifying expression.

Gu Yichen obediently went back to his room with his schoolbag and finished his homework; Lin Jingshu checked his lessons, and he had completed them perfectly.

Lin Jingshu's expression softened slightly, and she allowed him to play with his tablet for an hour.

Gu Yichen sat on the sofa playing a puzzle game; his eyes were fixed on the screen, his fingers moving quickly as he cleared level after level.

Lin Jingshu glanced over as Chen Ma called out to her from outside: "Madam, she has been kneeling in the ancestral hall for three hours."

Lin Jingshu said coldly: "Let her keep kneeling."

"Yes."

Gu Yichen's fingertips swiped lightly, bringing the screen to a familiar phone number, and he lowered his eyes to type a line: "Mom is here."

She tapped send on the text message, then deleted it without changing her expression.

A bar.

Jiang Xubai, Lu Ziqian, and Ji Yanli were called out by Gu Tingyan.

He opened a dozen bottles of alcohol, set them on the table, and placed a car key for a vehicle worth eighty million on top of them.

Gu Tingyan lifted his eyelids and said indifferently, "Whoever drinks the most today, this car belongs to them."

Jiang Xubai frowned at him: "You are very abnormal today."

"Drowning your sorrows in alcohol?"

"There's no need to be so extravagant with money."

Everyone knew Gu Tingyan was wealthy, but no matter how wealthy, he shouldn't be so wasteful.

Ji Yanli asked as if unintentionally: "Did you have a fight with Qin Shu?"

Jiang Xubai let out a cold scoff: "She is quite pretentious."

Lu Ziqian was the only one in the know; he smiled at the corners of his mouth, picked up a bottle of alcohol, and said nothing with a faint smile: "I will risk my life to accompany a gentleman today."

Gu Tingyan took a bottle of alcohol and poured it into his mouth, his throat full of sourness and bitterness.

He glanced indifferently at the few people who wanted to gossip, his mood particularly unpleasant: "So much nonsense, if you're a man, drink."

Jiang Xubai stared at the car key, picked up a bottle of alcohol, determined to win: "I've had my eye on this car of yours for a long time; my old man just refuses to buy it for me."

Gu Tingyan leaned back on the sofa, drinking in silence; his phone on the table vibrated, but he was in no mood to care.

Taking advantage of his grandmother's departure, Gu Yichen snuck out and walked all the way to the ancestral hall.

He stood outside the door of the ancestral hall and saw Qin Shu kneeling upright inside through a crack in the door.

The housekeeper was stunned to see the young master arrive.

"Young master."

He raised his eyes to look at the housekeeper, his gaze revealing a maturity that did not match his age: "Is she often punished by Grandmother to kneel?"

The housekeeper pondered for a moment: "When your father was here, she didn't have to."

Gu Yichen frowned: "Can't he just tell her not to come?"

The housekeeper said: "With you here, she cannot not come."

"A mother's greatest concern is her own child."

The housekeeper: "In this family, your father is not yet the one who makes the decisions."
