Chapter 36: Gu Tingyan Rushes to the Old Residence to Save Qin Shu
Gu Yichen remained silent, pursing his lips without a word.
Gu Yichen stood there, looking up at the butler: "Grandpa Butler, can you make a phone call to my father?"
"I cannot stay out for too long; Grandma is coming back."
He lowered his eyes, his expression obedient and sensible: "I have to go back."
"If Grandma finds out I am not there, Mommy will only have to kneel for longer."
There was a hint of heartache in the butler's eyes as he patted the little boy's head: "Grandpa will help you call."
He had watched Gu Tingyan grow up, and then watched his child grow up.
The ones currently holding power in the Gu Family were still Gu Huaiyuan and Lin Jingshu; before Gu Tingyan turned thirty, they would not relinquish their power.
As long as Gu Laoyezi was still around, the Eldest Young Master would not have it too hard.
Once the old man was gone, with no one to maintain this balance, Lin Jingshu would likely become even more unhinged.
Gu Yichen looked at Grandpa Butler and said: "Don't tell Mommy I was here."
When Gu Yichen was still very small, just beginning to form memories, others had their fathers and mothers with them, but he did not.
He was very curious about this mother of his, Qin Shu; from the servants' mouths, Gu Yichen learned that she was his mother.
Gu Yichen had snuck out to see her; that day, when Qin Shu saw him, she was stunned at first, then held him and cried in utter heartbreak.
She even bought him candy to eat.
Later, this matter was discovered by Grandma, and he did not see Qin Shu again for that entire year.
Gu Yichen did not have much affection for this mother, yet he would always remember that day, and that piece of candy, which was truly sweet.
After growing up, he searched the whole world, but never ate such delicious candy again.
The butler: "Mm."
Gu Yichen stood outside the ancestral hall, took one last look inside with a faint expression, then moved his feet and left.
At the bar.
Inside the top-tier luxury VIP room, the lights were dim; in the middle of the sofa, the man's cold, sharp face was outlined with deep, three-dimensional contours as he held his glass and drank it in one gulp, his sexy Adam's apple bobbing up and down.
The phone placed on the table vibrated; it was a call from the Old Residence.
When Gu Tingyan heard this ringtone, his drunkenness vanished entirely.
He put down the wine bottle and answered; the butler's voice came from the other side: "The Young Mistress has been called back."
Gu Tingyan's brows furrowed tightly as he picked up his suit jacket from the sofa and strode out with long strides.
Jiang Xubai was nearly passed out from drinking; seeing him about to run, he shouted, refusing to let him leave.
"Hey, are you playing the deserter?"
Gu Tingyan threw the car keys from the table to him: "They're yours."
After saying this, he turned and ran outside.
Gu Tingyan had been drinking and could not drive; A Zhong was not by his side, and calling him over now would definitely be too late.
He hailed a car directly on the side of the road, sat inside, and checked his phone; only then did he see the message his son had sent him: "Mommy is here."
These four words meant that his mother had started trying to find ways to torment Qin Shu again.
Gu Tingyan did not understand; Qin Shu was so good, how could she not see it at all.
Gu Tingyan did not reply; this was the tacit understanding between father and son.
Lin Jingshu would check Gu Yichen's tablet and phone; once she discovered Gu Yichen was in contact with Qin Shu, she would become enraged, and Qin Shu's fate would only be more miserable.
Gu Tingyan rushed to the Old Residence, heading straight for the ancestral hall.
Qin Shu had been kneeling for nearly four hours, and Gu Tingyan's return journey took an hour by car.
As soon as he entered the door, his expression was terrifyingly gloomy; the servants of the Old Residence saw Gu Tingyan arrive and hurriedly ran to report to Lin Jingshu.
"Madam! The Eldest Young Master is back!"
Lin Jingshu's expression turned cold instantly; she checked the time—Qin Shu had been kneeling in the ancestral hall for nearly four hours.
"That's about enough; let her learn a lesson today."
"I wonder which blind fool tipped him off."
The servant who brought the news heard this and trembled in fear, their face turning pale; they were all very afraid of Lin Jingshu, the mistress of the house.
Gu Yichen was sitting to the side reading a children's version of an English book; upon hearing this, his expression did not change at all.
He raised his eyes and spoke in a precocious manner: "Grandma, don't be angry, you'll get wrinkles."
Lin Jingshu smiled and reached out to pinch his nose: "It's still my grandson who cares about me."
"Unlike your own father, whose heart is completely biased toward that woman."
Even though Qin Shu had given birth to the eldest grandson for the Gu Family, she and Gu Huaiyuan did not acknowledge her.
They felt that Qin Shu was not worthy of the current Gu Tingyan and that they should find him a woman from a prominent family, a perfect match in social status.
Gu Tingyan stormed into the ancestral hall but was blocked by Chen Ma and her people: "Eldest Young Master, what are you doing?"
Gu Tingyan's voice was cold and chilling, terrifyingly sinister: "Get lost!"
Chen Ma signaled to the people below to stop Gu Tingyan.
Gu Tingyan shot a sharp glare at them, and no one dared to move; after all, Chen Ma was not the mistress of this Old Residence.
And Gu Tingyan was definitely going to inherit the entire Gu Family in the future.
Seeing that she could not command the people, Chen Ma's expression turned ugly; she reached out to block the front of the ancestral hall but was shoved aside by Gu Tingyan.
He radiated a terrifying aura as he walked into the ancestral hall; Qin Shu looked up at him with a numb expression, and seeing him arrive, she pulled her lips into a smile with her pale little face.
"You're here."
Gu Tingyan's heart ached so much that his very soul trembled.
He strode over, scooped her up from the ground, and bent down, preparing to lift her pants to check her knees, when Qin Shu went limp and collapsed.
"Qin Shu!"
Gu Tingyan hurriedly reached out to hold her, his voice hoarse: "How long have you been kneeling?"
Qin Shu pulled her lips into a smile and did not hide it: "About four hours or so."
A fierce, baleful aura instantly surged in Gu Tingyan's eyes.
He roared at her: "Are you an idiot? When you came, didn't you know to call me?"
Qin Shu used to be very clever; whenever Lin Jingshu wanted to punish her and told her to return to the Old Residence, she would send a message to Gu Tingyan, and Gu Tingyan could always take her away to hide.
Gu Tingyan pulled up her trousers; her knees were already unwatchable, covered in large patches of bruising.
Qin Shu hissed; at his touch, she gasped in pain, yet a smile remained on her face: "Didn't we get a divorce? I didn't have the nerve to ask."
Looking at the injuries on her knees, Gu Tingyan carried her and walked outside, a thick, malevolent aura swirling around him, gloomy and terrifying.
As Gu Tingyan carried Qin Shu outside, Chen Ma gave Qin Shu a cold look, but the next second, she was fiercely kicked in the chest by Gu Tingyan and sent flying.
Gu Tingyan was furious, his face cold and murderous, his eyes terrifyingly sinister, and his voice like ice: "Who gave your dog eyes permission to stare at your master like that?"
Chen Ma's body slammed heavily onto the ground, unable to move for a long time; she lay on the ground spitting out large mouthfuls of blood, looking at Gu Tingyan with eyes full of terror, her face written with fear and dread.
Gu Tingyan coldly swept his gaze over the group of servants; each of them showed terror, like birds startled by the mere twang of a bow, not daring to meet his eyes, and everyone was trembling all over, terrified that the Eldest Young Master would take his anger out on them.
Until Gu Tingyan left the ancestral hall, no one dared to step forward to help Chen Ma.
Qin Shu was carried out directly by him; her arms rested on his neck, and seeing Chen Ma, who had been kicked away by Gu Tingyan, she felt a slight shock in her heart, not expecting him to be so enraged.
Gu Tingyan placed Qin Shu with Gu Laoyezi, and with a gloomy face, he walked toward Lin Jingshu's courtyard; as soon as he entered the room and saw Gu Yichen sitting on the sofa reading, he looked at the butler and said coldly: "Take the Young Master away."
Gu Yichen glanced at him, his small face cold and his eyes indifferent; he jumped off the sofa himself and walked out clutching his book.
