Chapter 71: Fortunately, That Child Died
Lu Keke stared at Su Xiangwan's departing back, inexplicably feeling a sense of closeness, and she said crisply, "I'm fine."
Su Tuantuan watched the woman's departing back, her eyes flickering slightly; she always felt this person looked very familiar.
Su Xiangwan ran far away, leaning against a wall to soothe her racing, irregular heartbeat, her hands and feet icy cold.
That was the child of Lu Ziqian and Xia Qinglian.
Su Xiangwan placed her hand on her own flat lower abdomen; once, she too had carried Lu Ziqian's child in her womb, but that child had died the moment it was born.
Her child was dead.
A child Su Xiangwan had never even seen once.
Su Xiangwan felt her heart ache inexplicably, yet she was also glad the child was gone.
If that child were still alive, its fate would be no better than hers.
Lu Ziqian would not tolerate his own child being born from her womb.
He found it dirty.
Fortunately, that child died; fortunately.
If she were still alive, she would surely suffer the dislike, coldness, and disgust of her own biological father.
Because he loathed Su Xiangwan, he would consequently dislike the piece of flesh that had fallen from her body.
Su Xiangwan looked up to hold back the tears in the corners of her eyes, reached out to wipe them away, and lifted her feet to walk into the hospital.
"Hello, I'm here to pick up medicine." Su Xiangwan walked to the medicine collection window and handed the slip inside.
"Su Xiangwan?" Jiang Xubai's footsteps, as he came down from upstairs, paused slightly; looking at the red-rimmed face before him, he was certain it was indeed Su Xiangwan.
Hearing this familiar yet strange voice, Su Xiangwan's entire body stiffened.
She had grown up together with Jiang Xubai and Lu Ziqian; back then, Su Xiangwan's father was still the mayor, and she was still the infinitely glorious mayor's daughter.
Su Xiangwan's body went slightly rigid; after collecting her medicine, she turned and ran.
Jiang Xubai strode closer, but the person had already disappeared from the lobby; he frowned, knocked on the window, and asked in a low voice, "What medicine did that woman just take?"
The nurse at the medicine window looked up, saw it was Jiang Xubai, and replied, "She picked up blood pressure and blood sugar control medication."
Jiang Xubai hadn't seen wrong; he had indeed just seen Su Xiangwan!
Su Xiangwan had actually been released from prison.
Jiang Xubai's brows furrowed slightly; he lowered his head and tapped on Lu Ziqian's WeChat, typed a line to notify him that Su Xiangwan was out of prison, but he pursed his lips and ultimately deleted the string of text.
Lu Ziqian was with Xia Qinglian now, and the two even had a child; Su Xiangwan's return was too late.
He shoved his phone into his pocket and turned to walk upstairs.
Qin Shu had lain in the hospital for a day, cooperating with the police to give statements; she had hired a lawyer, and the Jiang Family case was handed over entirely to Lu Ziqian, whose law firm was the most top-tier.
The sentencing for Jiang Wenzhou would require a process, and Qin Shu would not just sit in the hospital waiting for death.
Qin Shu asked for leave from Director Chen, and the next day she insisted on being discharged.
Gu Tingyan's eyes were dark and heavy; he sent her to the set with a straight face, and this time Su Tuantuan followed Qin Shu almost like a shadow.
Gu Tingyan sat in the car, the window half-open, staring at Su Tuantuan: "Take good care of her."
Su Tuantuan rarely didn't snap back at him: "Fine."
Gu Tingyan looked at Qin Shu, his gaze softening: "I will handle the Jiang Family for you; film well."
Qin Shu: "Mm."
Qin Shu had changed her phone; she inserted the new card, and Su Tuantuan took the phone directly from her: "I'll keep it safe for you."
Qin Shu reached out: "Give it to me."
Su Tuantuan's eyes flickered uncertainly: "Baby..."
Qin Shu said calmly: "I can withstand any rumors or gossip."
Qin Shu explained earnestly: "That day was truly just an accident."
She wouldn't be foolish enough to commit suicide; if she died, it would be even harder to clear her name.
Su Tuantuan couldn't resist and returned the phone to Qin Shu, but all news about Qin Shu on the internet had vanished completely.
One didn't need to think to know it was Gu Tingyan who had people clean it up.
Qin Shu logged into WeChat and saw Su Xiangwan's message; she replied simply: "I'm fine, my phone broke, I just changed to a new one."
Su Xiangwan: "Mm!"
Qin Shu entered the set; Director Chen was already filming the scenes for the male lead and the second male lead. Chu Sheng had no scenes today, and when everyone saw Qin Shu enter, they swarmed over.
"Qin Shu, you're finally back!"
"This set just won't work without you."
"Welcome back to the set, beautiful Qin!"
As the words fell, a burst of enthusiastic applause rang out.
Qin Shu had prepared herself to face all rumors and gossip; the more others talked, the straighter she held her back as she walked on.
But she hadn't expected to see a group of enthusiastic people; the crew members all knew what had happened to Qin Shu and had seen the news, but everyone tacitly chose not to ask.
Qin Shu stood still, her eyes hot; she pursed her lips and bowed deeply to everyone: "Thank you all, I'm sorry, I almost delayed everyone's schedule."
Director Chen frowned: "As long as you know, hurry up and go get your makeup done; the next scene is yours with the male lead."
Qin Shu curled her lips: "Alright, Director Chen."
Xie Jin crossed the crowd, came to her side, reached out to pull her into his embrace, his voice carrying a hint of worry: "Qin Shu, it's good that you're okay."
Su Tuantuan: "?"
Qin Shu's body stiffened slightly, and she pushed Xie Jin away unobtrusively.
Director Chen coughed: "Ahem, ahem, what are you doing? Hurry up and get to work!"
Xie Jin sensed Qin Shu's stiffness and released her early.
Su Tuantuan glanced at Xie Jin, then turned her head to look at Qin Shu in shock and said, "Holy crap, what is your relationship with Xie Jin?"
"Are you keeping another dog behind my back?"
Qin Shu had black lines all over her forehead: "No relationship."
If this were snapped by the paparazzi, she wouldn't be able to explain it clearly.
Qin Shu filmed this play in Beijing for half a month.
Lu Ziqian sent a message to Qin Shu: "Jiang Wenzhou's case has been sentenced, a total of five years; this should be considered heavy."
"Generally, this kind of attempted act is sentenced to at most 2–3 years, and if the court weighs the sentencing, it would be treated leniently."
Qin Shu saw the verdict sent by Lu Ziqian and read it through carefully: "Thank you."
"I will transfer the final payment to your bank card today."
Lu Ziqian: "Gu Tingyan has already paid it."
"Be careful lately; Jiang Wenzhou's case has been sentenced, and the Jiang Family may not be convinced."
"They might retaliate against you."
After all, Jiang Wenzhou is the only son of the Jiang Family.
Qin Shu's expression became solemn: "Mm, I will."
Lu Ziqian: "It's my daughter's birthday today, come over and join the fun? She likes you quite a bit and has been clamoring for you to come."
"Okay."
"I've booked a private room at Jingyu, Gu Tingyan will be coming too, do you mind?"
Qin Shu was stunned; she and Gu Tingyan hadn't seen each other for nearly half a month, but thinking of how Lu Ziqian had fought a good lawsuit for her, she said:
"It's fine, we're getting a divorce anyway, I'll come over."
"Mm."
Qin Shu took Su Tuantuan over after work, and as soon as she entered the door, she saw a familiar back: Su Xiangwan.
When she looked again, the person had already disappeared.
