Chapter 70: You Look Very Much Like My Mom

~7 min read 1,369 words

Gu Qinghuan felt her nose sting intensely upon hearing this, her throat felt constricted, and tears began to fall.

She let out a sob, her eyes red: "Brother, don't say such things; it makes my heart ache to hear them."

Gu Qinghuan raised her hand to wipe her tears, her voice choked with sobs: "You must be well for your whole life; I am afraid when I am alone."

"You promise me!"

Gu Tingyan raised his hand and ruffled her hair: "Alright, brother promises you."

"Don't cry when you get to the hospital, and keep your sister-in-law good company."

"She likes you; she will be happier if you go."

Gu Qinghuan hurriedly wiped her tears: "Mm!"

The car arrived at the hospital, and Gu Tingyan's phone rang; he lowered his head and glanced at it—it was a call from Gu Yichen using his small watch.

He answered it, but there was silence on the other end for a long time; no one spoke.

"If you don't speak, I'm hanging up."

Gu Yichen: "I saw the news."

Gu Tingyan frowned: "Your mother is fine."

"Do you want to come over?"

The voice on the other end had a slight nasal tone, struggling to restrain his emotions: "Grandma won't let me."

Gu Tingyan pressed his lips together; he looked up at Gu Qinghuan: "You go up first, I'm going to pick up Chenchen."

Gu Qinghuan: "Alright."

Gu Tingyan turned the car around and drove to the Old Residence.

Gu Yichen hung up immediately after the call, then tapped to delete the call history.

When Gu Tingyan arrived at the Old Residence, the moment he entered the door, he saw Gu Yichen practicing calligraphy, with a tutor beside him carefully instructing him.

The female tutor was stunned when she saw Gu Tingyan and greeted him: "Mr. Gu."

Gu Tingyan nodded slightly, walked over, and picked Gu Yichen up directly; he reached out, threw the pen in Gu Yichen's hand onto the table, and looked at the tutor: "I'm taking the child; if my mother looks for you, tell her to call me."

The female tutor wanted to stop him, but thinking that he was the child's biological father, she stood there and nodded: "Alright."

Gu Tingyan carried Gu Yichen out of the Gu Family Old Residence; Lin Jingshu heard he had returned and immediately brought people over, and seeing Gu Tingyan taking Gu Yichen away, her voice was icy: "Gu Tingyan!"

"Where are you taking Chenchen!"

Gu Yichen's fingers held onto Gu Tingyan tightly; from the moment he saw Lin Jingshu, his body had stiffened, his pupils trembled slightly, and he bit his lower lip hard.

Gu Tingyan carried him and walked very quickly, getting straight into the car, starting it, and stepping on the gas; the car soon disappeared from before Lin Jingshu.

Gu Yichen sat in the passenger seat, looking at Lin Jingshu's gloomy face through the rearview mirror and the Gu Family Old Residence getting further and further away, his body relaxing slightly.

Along the way, the car cabin was very quiet, and neither father nor son spoke.

Gu Yichen's small watch was vibrating incessantly; he sat in the seat, raised his hand, and pressed power off.

Hospital.

Qin Shu had woken up.

Gu Tingyan brought Gu Yichen into the room and saw Lu Keke lying in front of Qin Shu's bed, staring at Qin Shu's face with a mischievous look, her cheeks red:

"Big sister, you are so beautiful, just like a fairy in the sky."

Gu Qinghuan held Lu Keke and laughed out loud upon hearing this.

"Then who is prettier, me or your big sister?"

Lu Keke tilted her head, spreading the praise equally: "Both are especially beautiful!"

Qin Shu liked Lu Ziqian's daughter very much, finding her so well-behaved and soft; she couldn't help but pinch Lu Keke's cheek and laughed: "If only my little brat were this cute."

The hospital room was filled with a joyful scene.

Su Tuantuan poured a glass of water for Qin Shu, and when she turned back and saw the father and son standing at the door, she was stunned.

"Chenchen."

Qin Shu raised her eyes to look toward the door and saw Gu Yichen.

"Chenchen?"

Gu Yichen stood where he was, his gaze falling on the smile on Qin Shu's face and looking at the hand on Lu Keke's cheek; his eyes darkened.

Gu Tingyan let go of Gu Yichen's hand; Gu Yichen looked up at him once and walked toward Qin Shu.

He stood before Qin Shu's hospital bed and reached out to hold her hand: "Mom."

Qin Shu hadn't seen him for a long time; her eyes were a bit red, and she reached out to touch his face, pulling him halfway into her embrace, her voice gentle: "Mom is fine."

Gu Yichen lowered his eyes, his eye sockets slightly red: "Mm."

Lu Keke lay in Gu Qinghuan's arms and looked down at Gu Yichen, seeing his eyes were red: "Brother Yichen, did you cry?"

Qin Shu cupped her son's face and sure enough saw her son with his brows and eyes lowered, tears hanging at the corners of his eyes, his eyes red and moist, remaining silent without a word.

Gu Yichen had been steady and introverted since he was small, and he didn't talk much; if something happened, he would bottle it up inside and tell no one.

Her heart tightened, and she stroked his head, holding the person in her arms even tighter: "Mom is really fine, really, I just accidentally fainted from low blood sugar."

Gu Yichen buried himself in her embrace, reaching out to hold Qin Shu's waist tightly, fearing that if he let go, Qin Shu would disappear.

Gu Qinghuan pinched Lu Keke's cheek and picked her up: "I'll take Keke out to play."

Su Tuantuan followed, leaving the space to the mother and son: "I'll go too."

It was rare for Qin Shu and Gu Yichen to meet; even though they were biological mother and son, it was hard to meet once a month, having been forcibly separated.

Gu Tingyan stood at the door watching the mother and son hugging each other, his thin lips pressed tightly together, feeling a bitter taste in his heart.

Gu Qinghuan greeted Lu Ziqian: "Big Brother Lu, I'm taking Keke downstairs to play."

Lu Ziqian was working; his assistant had brought his laptop to the hospital for him, and he nodded slightly while wearing headphones to signify his agreement.

Lu Keke waved at her father, smiled, and hugged Gu Qinghuan's neck, and the three of them walked down toward the hospital lawn.

Su Tuantuan and Gu Qinghuan were sitting on the lawn, and Lu Keke was sitting nearby watching other children play, her heart suddenly becoming restless.

Lu Keke raised her hand and tugged on Gu Qinghuan's sleeve: "Sister Qinghuan, I want to go play."

Gu Qinghuan glanced at those three children, then lowered her head to look at the injury on her knee.

Lu Keke immediately stood up and spun around: "I'm fine now!"

"You are not allowed to run too far."

Lu Keke: "Mm!"

Lu Keke slowly walked toward those few children, but halfway there, she bumped into someone and her body tilted to the side; she widened her eyes in terror, thinking she was going to fall again, but then she landed in a warm embrace.

Su Xiangwan held the little girl in her arms, her voice gentle: "Are you alright?"

Lu Keke looked up, feeling that this embrace was so warm; she blinked her eyes, her gaze landing on Su Xiangwan's face as she froze: "Sister, you look so much like my mommy."

When Su Xiangwan saw that little girl's face, she also jolted, her heart startled, because this face looked very much like Su Xiangwan when she was a child.

And there was only one person who looked very much like Su Xiangwan.

Su Xiangwan's body stiffened slightly; she helped her stand steady, took a half-step back after glancing at Lu Keke, and walked away quickly.

Gu Qinghuan ran over, and she glanced in the direction of Su Xiangwan: "Keke, are you alright? You scared me to death!"
