Chapter 98: Pushed Down the Stairs

~8 min read 1,412 words

The servants in Lin Jingshu's courtyard all know the mistress's temper and are afraid of her; Chu Chen is favored, and the mistress's partiality is overly obvious.

Even if they saw Chu Chen hit the young master, the masters wouldn't care, so they wouldn't dare step forward to intervene, only lowering their heads and pretending they hadn't seen anything.

When finishing dinner, Qin Shu sent a message to her son's small watch: "Baby, come over to eat."

Not long after, a reply came from the other side: "Mom, I won't come over today; I'm eating with Grandma."

Seeing this message, Qin Shu froze for a moment, feeling a faint sense of loss.

Five dishes were set on the table; two were ones Gu Yichen loved, and two were ones Qin Shu loved.

Gu Laoyezi, holding his bowl, saw Qin Shu's despondent look: "I will have Zhang Ma go over and bring him here."

"Your mother-in-law likely won't let him come over."

Gu Laoyezi called out: "Zhang Ma, go call the young master to come eat."

Zhang Ma wiped her hands and walked out quickly: "Yes."

Qin Shu stood up: "I'll go get him."

"If you go, you'll be even less likely to bring him back."

"Let Zhang Ma go."

Hearing Gu Laoyezi's words, Qin Shu sat back down; clearly in the same residence, she and Chenchen lived as if in two different worlds.

Lin Jingshu's courtyard was strictly forbidden for Qin Shu to step into; without her permission, let alone seeing the child, Qin Shu couldn't even get inside.

Zhang Ma went to Lin Jingshu's courtyard to call the young master for dinner and returned very quickly.

She looked at the old man and whispered in explanation: "The young master said himself he wouldn't come."

Gu Laoyezi pondered for a moment and tapped his bowl: "Fine, let's eat ourselves."

"That kid won't go hungry wherever he eats."

Qin Shu smiled faintly, picked up her bowl and chopsticks, and began to eat.

Evening.

Gu Laoyezi was old, lacked energy, and was also ill; perhaps due to the medicine he had taken, sleepiness overcame him, and he returned to his room to sleep early.

After eating, Qin Shu felt her stomach was not very comfortable and her chest felt tight; she ate some fruit and prepared to go upstairs.

Qin Shu held her stomach and stepped up the stairs; a servant happened to be coming down, so Qin Shu held the railing and stood to the side to let her pass first.

Ever since becoming pregnant, Qin Shu had become exceptionally sensitive; today, she had been feeling panicked all day, always feeling an ominous premonition rushing toward her.

Qin Shu stood there with her large belly; the servant looked at her, her eyes filled with unbearable pity, a struggle flashing across them, but in the end, she still lunged straight at Qin Shu.

"Ah... Young Mistress, move quickly!"

Qin Shu's face turned pale; she hurriedly took a step back, but the stairs were too slippery, causing her to lose her footing and tumble directly down the stairs.

As Qin Shu rolled down the stairs, she clutched her stomach tightly and let out a terrified scream: "Ahhhhh!"

With several thuds, she fell down the stairs; Qin Shu lay on the ground, her face pale, feeling warm liquid flowing out from between her legs.

Lying on the ground, Qin Shu saw blood beneath her and shouted for help: "Help, save my child."

Seeing Qin Shu fall, the servant was so scared she ran away immediately.

Hearing Qin Shu's cries for help, Zhang Ma ran out immediately; seeing Qin Shu had fallen from upstairs, she was scared to death and ran over to support her.

Qin Shu's face was deathly pale, fine beads of sweat seeping from her temples; she shook her head: "Call someone, take me to the hospital."

Zhang Ma's hands were stained with Qin Shu's blood; she trembled and hurriedly ran outside to call for help: "Come quickly! The Eldest Young Mistress has fallen down the stairs!"

"Heavens, come quickly!" Zhang Ma ran out, calling for help in a panicked and helpless state.

Even though she shouted extremely loudly, the vast Gu Family Old Residence was not stirred by a single soul.

The night was as thick as ink that wouldn't dissolve, pitch-black, with even the starlight and moonlight swallowed up; only the whimpering of the wind through the alleyway sounded like it hid countless unknown ghosts.

The night was purely and hideously black, with not a sliver of light to be found; ghost shadows twisted and writhed in the darkness, as if in the next second something would pounce out from the thick blackness and drag people into an endless abyss.

Gu Family Ancestral Hall.

Lin Jingshu knelt before the ancestors of the Gu Family; after tonight, the Gu Family would return to the peace it should have.

Gu Lichuan held a glass of red wine; hearing the commotion from Gu Laoyezi's room in the main house, he took a sip and looked at his mother, curling his lips in a smile: "That one couldn't help but make a move."

Zhuang Mingyue was boiling tea nonchalantly: "Once this child is born, it will be one more threat."

"One can't blame anyone; one can only blame Qin Shu's face for being too beautiful, for being coveted by the Jiang Family, and for having spent a night outside with him."

She chuckled: "It would be strange if Lin Jingshu could tolerate her."

Sometimes, she also felt Lin Jingshu's paranoia and madness were terrifying.

In Lin Jingshu's courtyard, all the servants heard Zhang Ma's cries, but not a single one dared to move.

Gu Yichen was locked in the small attic upstairs; curled up in a corner, he seemed to hear his mother's painful cries for help.

He stood up abruptly, stepped onto a chair, and opened the small window of the attic; because the attic was high, he saw at a glance that Zhang Ma's hands were covered in blood, frantically shouting for help for the Young Mistress.

Gu Yichen jumped off the chair and ran to open the door, but it didn't budge; he anxiously pounded on the door: "Let me out!"

"Let me out!"

Gu Yichen cried out: "Grandma, Grandma, please let me out, I will be obedient from now on."

"Grandma, something happened to my mom, please save her."

However, no matter how he shouted, no one outside responded to him.

Gu Yichen wanted to call his father, but his small watch, phone, and tablet had long been confiscated by Lin Jingshu.

He turned abruptly and ran toward the window, stepping on the chair to climb up.

The attic was very high, on the fourth floor; looking down, one would be crippled if not killed by a fall.

Gu Yichen raised his hand to wipe away his tears, forcing himself to calm down; he gripped the window frame and looked down, his face turning white, his legs trembling slightly.

But he still climbed out the window without hesitation.

Zhang Ma had been in the Gu Family Old Residence for so long, and yet with such a commotion, no one came; she knew someone had lured the Eldest Young Master away and kept Gu Laoyezi in a deep sleep from which he could not wake.

They intended for Qin Shu and the child in her womb to die at the Gu Family Old Residence.

Zhang Ma picked up the phone to dial 120, but there was no signal; she froze for a moment, gritted her teeth, and went back to help Qin Shu up from the floor.

Her voice trembled: "Young Mistress, no one is coming to save us."

Qin Shu understood.

She gritted her teeth and stood up, a sharp pain radiating from her lower body: "Zhang Ma, can you drive?"

Zhang Ma shook her head violently and cried: "I cannot."

Qin Shu's forehead was covered in cold sweat: "Take me to the garage, I will drive."

Qin Shu endured the intense pain and drove the car out of the Gu Family Old Residence; she had only driven a hundred meters away from the Gu Family Old Residence when Zhang Ma's phone received a signal.

She said happily: "Young Mistress, there is a signal."

The next second, her joy turned into terror as a car lost control and crashed into theirs; Zhang Ma threw herself over Qin Shu: "Young Mistress, look out!"
