Chapter 23: Li Yan's Heaven-Defying Mother
After Ye Chen and the others left the classroom, Lin Jingxue brought Gu Yuan into the classroom, with a security guard following behind them.
They searched the classroom but found no second small snake.
After confirming there was no second small snake in the classroom, they called the children to come in.
The children entered the classroom with fearful expressions; fear of snakes is ingrained in humans, even adults like Lin Jingxue are afraid, let alone these children, but there are always exceptions, such as Li Yan.
After entering the classroom, Li Yan appeared absent-minded.
Ye Chen saw his demeanor, but felt no pity; it could only be said he brought it on himself.
"Let the children watch cartoons by themselves in the classroom first; I'll go adjust the surveillance, okay?"
After Lin Jingxue said that, the classroom filled with voices saying "good".
Seeing how well-behaved they were, Lin Jingxue said nothing more; after playing the cartoons for them, she left the classroom.
After Lin Jingxue left, Li Yan looked around anxiously, regret continually showing on his face.
Ye Chen now wondered what Li Yan was thinking, but he didn't bother to intervene, since Lin Jingxue would handle it; he mainly wanted to see how Li Yan's parents would react, after all, behind every troublesome child there is a troublesome parent.
At that moment, Li Yan sat in his seat, extremely uneasy and frightened.
Ye Chen sensed Li Yan's emotions, ignored them, and immersed himself in his own cultivation.
Not long after, Lin Jingxue entered the classroom with a weary expression.
She had already suspected it, but after confirming, she felt uneasy; she never expected a child to have such audacity as to put a snake on another child's desk, fortunately nothing happened.
If an accident had occurred, she wouldn't dare think how to explain it to Ye Chen's parents.
If Ye Chen knew her thoughts, he would likely say she should be fortunate that Li Yan targeted him rather than the other children, for with the others an accident would truly have occurred.
Lin Jingxue walked up to Li Yan and said coldly, "Li Yan, please call your parents!"
Lin Jingxue's voice was icy; such a gentle teacher speaking so coldly and addressing Li Yan not as "Li Yan, little friend" but as "Li Yan, classmate" shows how angry she is.
"Lin, Lin teacher."
Li Yan timidly looked at Lin Jingxue, trying to win her sympathy with a pitiful expression so he wouldn't have to call his parents; no matter what grade, children fear being reported to their parents, even in kindergarten.
But this incident was too serious; Lin Jingxue could absolutely not cover for him.
Lin Jingxue looked at Li Yan and said coldly, "No matter what you say this time, you must call your parents!"
After saying that, Lin Jingxue walked toward the podium, giving Li Yan no chance to speak.
Afterwards nothing major happened, and after class Li Yan was summoned by Lin Jingxue to the office.
Ye Chen wondered what kind of parents could raise a child like Li Yan, so he went to the restroom, summoned the paper effigy to attend class in his place, and went to eavesdrop on the conversation between Li Yan's parents and Lin Jingxue.
He sneaked up to Lin Jingxue's office; before he even got close, he heard arguing inside.
"My child just likes keeping snakes; what's the big deal? He only wanted to bring his pet snake to school to show the other kids—what's wrong with that?"
This was a female voice, obviously Li Yan's mother; being able to make such a heaven-defying statement, it's no wonder Li Yan's worldview is problematic.
"Li Yan's mother, I think you haven't grasped the seriousness of the situation; what if your child's pet snake bites another child? What about those children's parents? As a fellow mother, you should understand how it feels when your own child is hurt."
Lin Jingxue spoke very reasonably, almost reasoning with him and appealing to his emotions, but she seemed to still underestimate the shamelessness of Li Yan's mother.
"That's not my child, so why should I worry?"
"Li Yan's mother, you!"
Lin Jingxue was so angered by Li Yan's mother that she couldn't speak.
"My precious treasure is so valuable; how could those children compare?"
Li Yan's mother made another heaven-defying remark; hearing it, Lin Jingxue's face showed shock, evidently not expecting Li Yan's mother to say such a thing.
"Li Yan's mother, then let your child apologize for this; surely that's not an excessive request?"
After Lin Jingxue spoke, Li Yan's mother snorted coldly, "How could those children make my child apologize? What qualifications do they have? My child is destined to get into Peking or Tsinghua University; how can they be compared to my child?"
"Apologize? My child will never apologize in this lifetime; letting that child apologize to my child would be about the same."
After hearing Li Yan's mother's words, Lin Jingxue's face was no longer shocked but fearful, with a complex hue; she dared not imagine how heaven-defying Li Yan would become when he grew up.
His mother dotes on him to an almost limitless degree.
Ye Chen listened to their conversation, especially after hearing Li Yan's mother's remarks, his face full of astonishment.
"Indeed, what kind of parents produce what kind of child."
Ye Chen thought to himself.
Such heaven-defying, limitless remarks he had only seen online before; today seeing them in person for the first time, he felt there was no ultimate heaven-defying, only more heaven-defying.
"Li Yan's mother, spoiling him like this will eventually harm him!"
Lin Jingxue's voice sounded again, filled with worry for Li Yan's future.
"My child is so intelligent; he will naturally discern right from wrong. My child is so smart; today's incident is absolutely an accident, need not be mentioned further. Moreover, I am his mother—how could I harm him? I would gladly pave the way for him."
Li Yan's mother said this while gazing indulgently at Li Yan; seeing his mother backing him, Li Yan's face lost its anxiety and replaced it with a look of triumph.
Ye Chen watched from outside, smirking coldly in his heart.
【When indecisive, ask the Spring Breeze; if the Spring Breeze stays silent, follow your true heart. On the path of cultivation, one values the true heart; your hesitation easily breeds inner demons, and besides, you are a demon child—everyone under heaven wishes to eradicate you and then feel relieved, so what are you hesitating about?】
The system's voice suddenly rang in Ye Chen's mind; after hearing its words, he slowly exhaled a turbid breath.
"Take it slow; if he continues to target me like this, I'll send him to the Western Paradise."
Ye Chen's voice was ice-cold; he wasn't a saint unwilling to kill Li Yan—he simply didn't want to bring unnecessary trouble to Ye Nan and Lin Ruoxi.
But just then, a wisp of black energy suddenly appeared behind Li Yan; seeing it, Ye Chen's eyes burst with killing intent.
