Chapter 620: Memory and Trade

~7 min read 1,269 words

"Call me Master, not 'Master' like that!"

Tally, in her role as a protective dog, corrected him discontentedly.

As soon as she finished, she turned back to Luo De with a fawning smile: "Right, Master?"

Seeing her master smile and pat her head affectionately, she instantly felt much better.

She even felt her master had fully forgiven her.

Luo De didn't know the succubus's private thoughts and temporarily ignored the vampire Vanessa, turning to Celine.

"You did well."

The zombie girl's expressionless face revealed no emotion; she rarely even looked at Luo De.

Now, faced with his praise, she didn't even raise her head, continuing to adjust the magic power stone.

But Luo De didn't care—she was the only employee in the forest with real productive value, so she could be forgiven.

"It wasn't my idea. It was almost entirely Professor Vanessa's work."

Celine said so.

Her gaze toward Vanessa carried a hint of admiration.

"Professor?"

"I was once a student at Bahadur Magic Academy. Is it strange that I know Professor Vanessa? You haven't forgotten my background, have you, my Master?"

"How could I?" Luo De lied without a flicker of guilt.

Celine's eyes grew distant: "Studies show that frequent reproductive behavior may cause memory decline, my Master. Don't lose your brain too."

"You piece of work."

Luo De laughed.

His hand left Hart's chest and moved to Celine's head, rubbing it roughly.

The mind flayer's skin had a thin layer of slime.

It stuck to his palm and immediately messed up her hair into a bird's nest.

"I can make you several more of these magic devices."

Nearby, Vanessa pulled off her headscarf.

A long, blood-red mane spilled down, her sultry face naturally pale and sickly, yet carrying a scholarly, refined air.

She exuded an inhuman elegance and beauty.

Her expression remained calm, as if she had already accepted her enslavement.

"I can be enslaved by you too—twenty years, fifty years, it doesn't matter. I'll devote myself entirely to whatever you want. After all, humans don't live long. But as a trade, I hope you'll return the 【Memory Wish Stone】 to me."

This half-vampire suffered terribly from memory confusion and was deeply obsessed with the 【Memory Wish Stone】.

"It's Luo De."

Tally couldn't help correcting her.

"Rosa."

"It's Luo De."

"Luo Luo."

Tally looked at her master: "She's doing it on purpose."

Luo De laughed.

The enslavement spell's command power was hard to make fully effective, but a professor's voluntary, wholehearted cooperation was far better.

"Then it's settled. When I die, I'll free you—and all of you others too."

Hart trembled slightly, excited and eager.

Celine's expression remained unchanged, showing little reaction.

Perhaps for this zombie girl, being enslaved made no difference from before—she'd always just buried herself in magical research.

Tally knew her master was unlikely to die by human lifespan standards.

She immediately declared:

"If my Master dies, I'll die with him."

Vanessa glanced at her: "Your succubus is lying, Luo En."

Tally froze, guiltily glanced at Luo De, then retorted:

"How dare you question my love for my Master?!"

Luo De didn't care: "That's one of the things I find adorable about Tally."

His words instantly settled the matter.

Tally shrank her neck, pretending to be clueless and giggling foolishly.

"Hmm."

Vanessa remained noncommittal: "Succubi betray almost 100 percent of the time. Their race is born this way. As a long-term partner, I advise you to discard her."

Tally panicked.

She said, embarrassed: "If my Master dies, I'll cut off his thing and hold it every night, imagining his face, until I starve to death!"

Vanessa froze.

Then she exclaimed in shock: "That's actually true… Strange. Luo Mei, is your succubus not pure?"

Luo De gave Tally a strange look.

What's the difference between suicide and your method of death? Maybe succubi have different notions of shame than ordinary girls?

Tally sensed his gaze and blushed, lowering her head.

"In succubi's eyes, dying for one man is the stupidest way to die—like humans dying for a steak. I—I was just joking~~"

"Steak?"

The female beastman Amy's voice suddenly appeared at the cave entrance, her head upside-down, sticking in.

"Where's the steak?"

This old street rat had gotten even worse since being let loose—she spent every day at Dusk Hill looking for fights.

Luo De flicked her a Jin Along: "Go eat at Xin Lank Street."

"Yay! Master is awesome!"

She arrived fast and left faster, happily snatching up the Jin Along and running off with her crystal greatsword toward Shi Ying Town.

The brief interruption didn't affect the negotiations in the cave.

Vanessa straightened her expression.

"Unlike your succubus and the beastwoman just now, I don't trade my body. This is a trade of knowledge and power. I hope you understand."

"Then your food is blood."

"That's none of your concern. I'll get it from other girls in the forest—safe, clean. I'm a fasting sect; I let it sit for one or two days before consuming. I never take blood myself."

"Do as you please."

Luo De didn't care, but as a reward, he planned to occasionally gift this academy professor some of his own blood.

After all, she'd said his blood was delicious.

He looked at the machine making magic ring blanks: "What's wrong with it?"

Vanessa pointed her chin at the fallen sphere: "The output frequency is unstable, so the ring blanks' quality is inconsistent. It's a hassle—might need to dismantle the whole machine."

"What's a hassle."

Luo De summoned a gravitational wave, pulling the purple glass sphere into his hand.

Under the effect of the 【Maintain Domain】, the magic power stone's already faint fluctuations stabilized into a single frequency.

Vanessa's blood-red pupils widened in shock:

"Domain? What kind of domain is this? I've never seen anything like it."

The zombie Celine took the power stone, studying the domain's power; beneath her messy hair, her eyes showed a hint of envy:

"Now the machine can run properly—producing at least five hundred ring blanks a day."

But Vanessa's expression darkened: "Difficulties must be overcome, not bypassed with external power. I refuse to use Luo Xia's domain."

"It's Luo De."

Tally corrected her again.

Luo De laughed: "Refusal is invalid. I understand your obsession with magic, but I'm short on money."

He reached out.

He asked Tally for a spare, preserved air tube—slightly sticky with residue, but it didn't matter; Vanessa had strong charm resistance.

He cut his wrist, letting blood drip steadily into the tube.

"Your reward."

Vanessa stared at the crimson blood, her small pale nose twitching slightly as she swallowed a large gulp of saliva.

Her wide eyes glowed red with longing.

Then she forced herself to look away, clasping her hands behind her back: "I don't need it!"

"Don't be polite. Just let it sit for a day or two."

Luo De smiled.

But she still wouldn't reach out, so he simply held the test tube.

Vanessa's waist was slender; her whole body trembled, shaking violently.

CRACK!

The thin thread holding the already overburdened button snapped and shot straight onto Luo De's face.

Large patches of pale skin were exposed, sagging slightly under gravity's pull.

The snapped button made the small vest loose, unable to hold the vial of blood.

Vanessa hurriedly caught the vial of blood, ignoring her largely exposed chest.

She froze for a moment, then clenched her teeth in fury.

"You're sexually harassing me! Roosevelt! This isn't part of our deal!"

"Before you say that, I hope you'd at least cover your clothes instead of rushing to stash the blood in your magical satchel."
