Chapter 138: Butcher Guilliman

~10 min read 1,937 words

Gabriel Seth's body trembled uncontrollably with rage,

for the bald man emerging from the wooden door that had appeared out of thin air wore a face identical to Sanguinius's.

That face was filled with the mercy, nobility, and divinity unique to Sanguinius; were it not for the conspicuous bald head, Gabriel Seth would have certainly believed it was the Gene-Father manifesting or that he had completely succumbed to the Black Rage.

Of course, even so, Seth still suspected he had been corroded by the Black Rage.

"Grand Sororita!"

Gabriel Seth raised his voice, his entire body surging with anger so intense it seemed almost solid, causing Grand Sororita Magda to tremble slightly:

"Tell me, is what I see real?!"

Grand Sororita Magda swallowed lightly, nodding almost imperceptibly.

"Is that our Gene-Father? Or some blasphemous lie and disguise?" Gabriel Seth asked, nearly screaming.

Behind him, more Flesh Tearers Astartes noticed the figure emerging from the wooden door,

the figure wearing their Father's face.

The corner of Grand Sororita Magda's mouth twitched imperceptibly.

How should she answer this question? Her reason told her that figure could absolutely not be Sanguinius, the Gene-Father of the Blood Angels,

but... but what about the holiness on that face?

Noticing Grand Sororita Magda's hesitation, looking at the swarm of bugs charging in the distance, and at the bald figure standing between the swarm and the cathedral,

Gabriel Seth exhaled a deep breath of blood-tinged air,

he was struggling to suppress the killing desire in his heart, to hold back his rage and madness, but he was barely able to contain it.

And the Flesh Tearers behind him were even worse.

Gabriel Seth knew that if they did not launch a charge immediately, this unrelievable rage and madness might be unleashed upon the comrades beside them.

"Kill! In the name of Sanguinius's blood!!!!"

Gabriel Seth roared, wielding the two-handed chainsword named Blood Reaver as he charged toward the battlefield,

the Flesh Tearers behind him also letting out beast-like roars, charging madly at the swarm of bugs approaching the cathedral.

And Gabriel Seth, wielding that sharp two-handed chainsword, roared as he charged at the bald man emerging from the wooden door, wearing Sanguinius's holy face.

By the blood of Sanguinius as witness, he would personally confirm whether that was blasphemy or divinity.

Zhou Yun looked somewhat numbly at both sides of the battlefield,

he hadn't expected to appear right in the middle of the battlefield; he had intended to use the Any-Door to enter the Sers Cathedral first, to gain Seth and the Grand Sororita's trust.

But perhaps General Droste's map given to Zhou Yun was inaccurate, or perhaps the map was too old, the terrain on Lysios having shifted due to the scouring of the sea, so the position where Zhou Yun appeared after opening the Any-Door was exactly the center of the battlefield.

Now, to Zhou Yun's left was an endless ocean of chitin, a swarm of bugs filled with hunger,

the swarm, upon seeing Zhou Yun, charged even faster, and was clearly converging toward Zhou Yun's direction.

And to Zhou Yun's right were the red-armored warriors roaring with rage; their blood-scented, barbaric roars almost made Zhou Yun think they were a horde of World Eaters.

Upon closer inspection, he realized they were the Flesh Tearers, a successor chapter of the Blood Angels; if not for that, he would have thought Khorne was attacking.

"How presumptuous." The winged figure in the Bai Guang chuckled twice and said.

Zhou Yun had no time to argue with him now.

The raging Flesh Tearer warriors, like a tide of blood, charged toward Zhou Yun and the bug swarm.

Their bodies radiated an anger almost like a physical substance; following this was a tide composed of bolter fire, cannon shells, and laser beams, falling like raindrops upon the distant bug swarm, blasting those blasphemous xenos into rolling chunks of flesh.

The Flesh Tearer warriors, equipped with jump packs, roared, flames erupting from their backs, and suddenly surged from the air toward the bug tide.

The low-level Tyranid forces composed of Gaunts, Hormagaunts, and Gargoyles soon collided with them, sandwiching Zhou Yun in between.

Zhou Yun quickly put away the Any-Door, dodging the bug swarm's biological projectiles and claws at a speed that even the enraged Flesh Tearer warriors couldn't help but marvel at.

But the Flesh Tearers very strangely did not trouble Zhou Yun; they seemed more inclined to reserve their anger for the xenos.

Or rather, to leave Zhou Yun for others.

The two-handed chainsword roared as it slashed toward Zhou Yun; Zhou Yun suddenly raised his arm to block.

The chainsword tore through the Body Clay wrapping Zhou Yun's arm, flesh-colored clay flying everywhere.

However, the chainsword seemed to strike something hard, sparking a shower of flashing sparks.

Gabriel Seth let out a cry of shock; he discovered that beneath the clay-like skin of the man before him lay a layer of silver metallic carapace.

Zhou Yun had wrapped the Body Clay around the Phantom Thief DX Suit, creating a false layer of skin and flesh; Seth had been deceived.

"Necron?" Noticing the metallic part, Seth let out a roar of anger.

But immediately his reason told him that this metal was not the living metal of the Necrons; otherwise, his chainsword would not have been able to leave nothing but a scratch.

"Iron Man?" Gabriel Seth then thought of another possibility.

"Do you believe me if I say I am the God-Machine?" Zhou Yun asked with a sincere expression.

Looking at the face identical to Sanguinius's, Gabriel Seth paused for a moment, instinctively somewhat believing the words of the man before him.

Immediately he realized something was wrong.

"Who exactly are you, daring to steal Sanguinius's face?!"

Seth roared, flashing aside to create distance from Zhou Yun, then in the blink of an eye appearing at Zhou Yun's side, his Blood Reaver chainsword slashing toward Zhou Yun with an unstoppable posture.

"Even Sanguinius himself isn't in a rush; why are you in such a hurry!"

Zhou Yun suddenly extended his hand, and a toy short sword made of plastic, emitting faint golden glimmers, thrust out.

This short sword seemed to have its own soul, precisely and cleverly blocking Gabriel Seth's Blood Reaver.

"I am in a rush! How am I not in a rush!" the winged voice in the Bai Guang complained loudly.

Seth seemed to hear the complaint from the winged figure in the Bai Guang; the Blood Reaver in his hand suddenly began to roar and spin.

He wielded this two-handed great sword with the flexibility of a gymnast waving a ribbon.

The great sword, in the blink of an eye, transformed into streaks of sharp blood-light slashing toward Zhou Yun, but the famous blade Dian Guang Wan in Zhou Yun's hand had just been fitted with new charging equipment and was fully charged.

A children's toy from the 22nd century instantly saw through Seth's swordsmanship, blocking his assault with such exquisite technique that even Seth had to marvel.

"Gabriel Seth."

"I am your ally, not your enemy."

Zhou Yun roared at Gabriel Seth, his mind rapidly recalling the life of this Flesh Tearers Chapter Master:

"I have come to make Commander Dante's plan a reality; I am your helper!"

"Think of why you are here! Do you crave the rage or the honor Sanguinius once bestowed upon the Ninth Legion? Do you desire slaughter or respect?"

"Do you still remember the disgust in the eyes of the Space Wolves when they looked at you? Do you remember the disdain of the Sisters of Battle toward you?"

"Do you wish for the Flesh Tearers to die bearing the title of Butchers, to vanish from the galaxy in contempt?"

"Are you the raving angel, or the mad beast?"

The chainsword in Gabriel Seth's hand paused for a moment.

The words Zhou Yun had just spoken struck straight at Gabriel Seth's pain points.

Gabriel Seth still remembered the look in the eyes of the Space Wolves and the Sisters of Battle when they gazed upon them; that look held nothing but disgust.

If one did not know Gabriel Seth's life, one would never speak words so deadly to the heart.

"I will do what I must do!!!" Seth responded, nearly roaring: "It is not for you, an unknown person, to scold me!"

Zhou Yun knew Seth harbored doubts in his heart; otherwise, he would not have ordered all the Flesh Tearers to deal with the distant swarm of bugs while he himself spoke with Zhou Yun.

Just a little bit more, and Zhou Yun could gain Gabriel Seth's trust; this Chapter Master possessed a beast-like intuition.

"Cough, cough, cough."

Zhou Yun cleared his throat:

"Roboute Guilliman, the Strategist Guilliman, the Warrior Guilliman."

"History will remember the Primarch of the Ultramarines by many names, but for us Blood Angels..."

"... there is only one name used to commemorate him: Butcher Guilliman!"

"With laws and decrees, Guilliman tore out the heart of the Legion; even his own son was not spared."

"Horus used a hammer; Guilliman used the ruler's blade. In the end, the result was the same."

As Zhou Yun recited, Seth's expression stiffened slightly; he knew what Zhou Yun was reciting.

This passage was considered blasphemous in the Imperium; calling a Primarch a Butcher was a great crime. If the Ultramarines were to learn of it, it would bring even greater retribution.

But Seth had heard this passage before. He knew Zhou Yun was reciting words once spoken by Narseer Amet, the first Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers, recorded in the Flesh Tearers' secret codex.

This should not be known to anyone outside the Chapter!

"Brothers became cousins, and cousins became exiles."

"Guilliman's new Chapters, his new beginning, were a tearing apart of all this."

Zhou Yun watched the moved Seth and smiled gently.

As expected, the Flesh Tearers' hatred for Guilliman was carved into their very genes.

He continued: "Without honor, without devotion, without history, without action."

"We are merely a pack of bastards without war and victory; we are no longer angels." Seth finished the last sentence for Zhou Yun.

"No." The winged figure in the Bai Guang spoke calmly: "You are still angels, my progeny. Remember honor and hope; do not yield to rage and madness."

"No." Zhou Yun repeated softly: "You are still angels, progeny of Sanguinius. Remember honor and hope; do not yield to rage and madness."

Seth looked at Zhou Yun for a while; he seemed to have gained some trust in Zhou Yun.

Even on his face, which was not wearing a helmet, his expression had become somewhat moved.

They could die as raving angels, rather than as mad beasts.

Indeed, as long as one cursed Guilliman, one could get along well with the Flesh Tearers. Zhou Yun couldn't help but complain inwardly.

Just then, in the distance on the battlefield, a thick gray-yellow fog suddenly began to surge.

Seth's superhuman senses vaguely sensed danger.

"Toxic Spore Beasts," Zhou Yun said softly, looking at Seth beside him: "Stop pretending; hurry up and put that helmet of yours back on."

Feeling a bit better today, but still uncomfortable.

In a half-dream, half-awake state, I thought of a wonderful meme.

"Angron became an idiot later in life, but Lorgar was born an idiot."

"Horus became an idiot later in life, but Lorgar was born an idiot."

"Leman Russ became a savage later in life, but Lion El'Jonson was born a savage."

"Horus became a traitor later in life, but Guilliman was born a traitor."
