Chapter 139: Traveler: How Strange, It Feels Like Something Is About to Grow

~9 min read 1,762 words

The hurricane howled at the peak of the mechanical spire, dyeing the crimson sky a blackish gray.

Morpheus glanced wearily at the sky; truly, it was awe-inspiring.

If he still retained enough stamina, he could also create such a hurricane that altered the celestial phenomena with a bit of time.

But to suddenly appear deep within the enemy formation and unleash such an unstoppable storm in an instant, just like that man.

That would also be a difficult task for Morpheus.

Especially when the opponent also possessed psychic units and was shrouded in the Warp's shadow, the teleportation itself would be hindered.

But that man seemed unaffected; what technology did his gate use?

The Warp? The Webway? A gravity well? None of them seemed quite right.

Morpheus could not think of a conclusion for the moment.

"ROAR!!!!"

The beast's roar sounded as a Tyranid Behemoth charged forward, roaring at the formation composed of the Blood Angels.

The first formation composed of Terminator warriors quickly met them, while the Blood Guard behind them immediately raised their weapons.

Morpheus raised his finger.

A bolt of Lei Guang, thicker than a person, shot out suddenly; scorching Warp lightning pierced straight through the Behemoth's body, leaving a gruesome blood-filled hole.

"We must be quick," Morpheus said in a low voice.

He was indeed too exhausted; the consumption from countering the Hive Mind was too great, and the psychic lightning he unleashed failed to kill this Behemoth in a single strike.

The Terminators and Blood Guard warriors seemed already accustomed to their Chief Librarian's outrageous psychic power and swiftly ended the Behemoth's life.

"Morpheus, you need rest." Dante watched this scene, patted Morpheus's shoulder, and said.

"My Lord, but we must also hurry," Morpheus said, staring at the door of the Cognitio Spire before him.

Through here, they could enter the mechanical spire, find the control console within the spire, and manipulate the Grand Prism to release scorching light.

Of course, it was not only the Blood Angels who were acting.

Morpheus glanced at the Necron Cryptek assassins who thought no one could discover them.

These xenos hid within pocket dimensions, thinking no one could discover them.

Did the Traveler Anrakyr and Dante trust each other? Of course not.

Both the Necrons and the Blood Angels suspected each other and remained vigilant against each other.

Precisely for this reason, the Cryptek assassins of the Traveler Anrakyr followed silently beside the Blood Angels' formation.

Should the Blood Angels betray them or act in ways contrary to his interests, the Cryptek assassins' neural shredders would point at them.

This was also the reason why Dante wanted Morpheus to conserve his stamina, because he knew that only Morpheus could stop all of this when the time came.

The Necrons and the Blood Angels split into two separate formations to act.

The Blood Angels were responsible for departing from the Cognitio Gate and entering the mechanical spire from above.

While the Necrons entered the underhive to advance, bypassing the Tyranid swarm's frontal defenses and entering the mechanical spire from below.

Both Dante and the Traveler Anrakyr understood that whoever entered the mechanical spire first and seized control of the Grand Prism would possess the initiative.

The Axe of Mortalis in Dante's hand swung at high speed; he led the Blood Guard warriors, soaring like falcons, slaughtering the Tyranid swarm forming a formation to intercept them, while the defensive line formed by the Terminator Guard teams advanced inch by inch through the sea of bugs like solid tank armor.

With the departure of Morpheus, this powerful psyker, from the battle, Xiang Leina took over his position, manipulating psychic power.

Of course, Xiang Leina's psychic power was far inferior.

"Thunder!!!"

Xiang Leina roared loudly, and a bolt of psychic lightning, thick as a wrist, stabbed toward a nearby Tyranid Warrior.

However, the Warrior heard Xiang Leina's roar and dodged with its keen reaction speed.

Morpheus, standing nearby, watched Xiang Leina use psychic power and barely held back a sigh.

This illegal psyker's use of psychic power was too crude; she still needed to rely on sound for assistance.

However, her psychic power was also somewhat peculiar; it seemed not entirely natural, but partially derived from external infusion.

This external infusion greatly enhanced her psychic power; if she underwent rigorous training...

Morpheus glanced at Xiang Leina.

Pity she was female.

If she were male... although a bit older, the Blood Angels' modification surgery was relatively less picky, and the success rate was acceptable; modified into an Astartes, she could become an excellent Librarian.

Pity she was female; that made it impossible. The Hua Di Huang simply never designed female Astartes.

Morpheus shook his head somewhat helplessly, and his attention toward Xiang Leina dropped sharply.

However, the Sisters of Battle and the Cadian Shock Troops also seemed to have ideas of recruiting her.

"Guiding psychic power relies on your instinct; do not use your voice."

"But when utilizing psychic power, use knowledge and wisdom, not shouting and impulse."

Morpheus watched Xiang Leina's crude psychic techniques and still offered a few words of guidance.

Xiang Leina nodded blankly, but a few words of guidance would not be of much use for the time being.

She understood the logic, but what exactly were knowledge and wisdom?

Just then, a sharp wind sound suddenly rang in Xiang Leina's ears.

A powerful hurricane suddenly pressed down upon the battlefield; in an instant, Xiang Leina thought Zhou Yun had returned with his pocket tornado.

But when Xiang Leina turned her head to look at the direction from which the hurricane howled, her eyes could not help but widen.

Before Commander Dante, who held the Axe of Mortalis, a massive winged shadow descended from the clouds, spreading those gruesome wings.

The fierce wind howled, blowing against Commander Dante's golden power armor, making a hissing sound.

Commander Dante's golden hair, interlaced with white silk, moved with the wind; his face, wearing the Golden Mask of Sanguinius, lifted slightly as he gazed at the Tyranid Behemoth descending from the sky. It was a Tyranid Hive Tyrant, a winged subspecies of the Tyrant, specialized for flight capabilities.

The Hive Tyrant used it to counter the progeny of the Angels.

Anlaker felt shame, felt his honor had been insulted.

He deployed the Yong Si Yin assassins to Dante's side.

Damn it, damn that Zalasusa; he has insulted the honor of a Hegemon.

Using Yong Si Yin assassins is dishonorable, especially using them against someone equally noble.

Though he would not admit it with his mouth, Anlaker knew the nobility of that Lord Dante; he was a man rich in honor and worthy of respect, even if he was merely human.

But those Eternal Death assassins did not belong to Anlaker; they were the troops of Zalasusa, the Hegemon of the Mefrit Dynasty within the Netherworld Galaxy, who styled himself "The One Whose Name Shall Not Be Spoken," known as the Silent Blades.

Anlaker could not help but recall the scene when he met Zalasusa.

Zalasusa awoke from slumber, his body glowing with an orange light, slowly rising to his feet; before Anlaker, he struck a pretentious pose and let out a fake yawn.

"Address me as the Great and Noble One Whose Name Shall Not Be Spoken, Noble Traveler," he said thus, looking at Anlaker with orange-yellow eyes.

Anlaker nodded slightly. "Understood, Zalasusa."

Then, from Zalasusa's shimmering eyes, Anlaker saw inexplicable anger.

Why had this man suddenly become angry? Anlaker could not figure it out at the time.

Looking back now, perhaps he truly had gone mad and insane during his long slumber; otherwise, how could he display such inexplicable anger and even forget honor?

Anlaker's thoughts grew increasingly chaotic.

For some reason, since arriving in the Netherworld Galaxy, he felt his thoughts and emotions had become somewhat more active, as if he were very well adapted to this galaxy's environment.

He even had a strange feeling, feeling that something within his metallic body was slowly growing, slowly lighting up.

Truly strange.

But soon, the sounds of the battlefield drove Anlaker's thoughts away.

His Necron warriors formed an iron island, advancing amidst the dense swarms of insects in the Underhive.

Anlaker's subordinates wove nets of Gauss Disintegration Beams and Tesla Lightning, turning thousands of Gaunts, Gaunt Warriors, and Gargoyles into ash.

Occasionally, more elite Tyranid Warriors would charge to the front of Anlaker.

At such times, Anlaker would wield his War Scythe to take the life of these Node Creatures.

Yet the Tyranid resistance was so fierce that in this ocean composed of chitin, even the Necrons were falling.

From a distance, Anlaker's forces looked like metal soap gradually melting into the insect sea, melting bit by bit, bubbling bit by bit.

Anlaker felt anxious about this; what made him most anxious was

he seemed to be lost.

The insect sea was too vast and too dense; he could only roughly control his direction, and it seemed he had already missed the designated assembly point.

This made Anlaker feel ashamed and humiliated; he should have let that human female in charge of guiding follow his side.

Anlaker corrected his direction, advancing toward the bottom area of the Industrial Zone.

Sharp scythe-like claws tore through the air, swiftly tearing apart the Immortals standing at the very front of the formation.

A beast's roar sounded; it was a Tyranid Behemoth with two scythe claws, a Tyranid Hive Tyrant.

Its physique far exceeded that of a Necron Hegemon; even Anlaker appeared somewhat small before it.

The beast's scythe claws slashed toward Anlaker.

Anlaker's War Scythe, shimmering with a crackling energy field, collided with it.

Just a Tyrant?

Anlaker felt somewhat disappointed.

General against General, King against King, Hegemon against Hegemon; only that is honorable.

Anlaker would have preferred to face a Hive Tyrant rather than a slightly inferior Hive Tyrant.

"Never mind, this is still considered equal," Anlaker shook his head.

The warriors of the Mefrit Dynasty tried to block in front of the Tyrant, shielding Anlaker from harm.

But Anlaker refused them; this was a battle he would win alone.

A battle between a Hegemon and a Tyrant.

Anlaker's War Scythe seemed to sense its master's emotions; the energy field upon it suddenly brightened, as if a living creature feeling joy.

Anlaker collided with this giant beast.

I am considering what to draw for the brothers after finishing this volume.

Anlaker / Dante / Sister Superior / Hive Tyrant, which one do you like? All are versions by the author Zha Tu.
