Chapter 21: The Last Luna Wolf
"Leman Russ, you bastard!"
Morgott cursed at Zhou Yun, who was standing outside the gate of the Corpse Guild:
"We were still inside, and you were strafing with lasguns?"
A brilliant smile appeared on Zhou Yun's mouth: "How could I have guessed it would be such a coincidence that you two were here too?"
Margit picked up the rusted, decaying triangular sword from the ground and stuffed it into his clothes.
He looked at Zhou Yun somewhat speechlessly; this guy clearly knew that he and Morgott were inside the Corpse Guild.
Margit and Morgott had always been masked before,
but Zhou Yun could recognize them at a glance, and wasn't even surprised that they were mutants.
This meant that when Margit and Morgott took off their hoods and entered the Corpse Guild, Zhou Yun was watching nearby.
Margit couldn't help but shake his head.
Morgott didn't seem to realize this, just muttering and cursing Zhou Yun for being disloyal.
And Zhou Yun always had a brilliant smile on his face, which made Margit feel a bit chilling.
"Although I almost accidentally hurt you, I also saved your lives."
Zhou Yun stood two or three meters away from the gate of the Corpse Guild and said to the two:
"And you two are actually mutants; that's not very good..."
Twelve lasguns suddenly rose behind Zhou Yun, aiming at Morgott and Margit.
Morgott was stunned on the spot, and Margit's body also stiffened slightly.
"Leman Russ, although we are mutants, we are not villains."
Margit slowly raised his hands and shook his head:
"Everything I said before was not false; we did come to save Ashford."
"We... we received guidance from the 'Angel'."
"Angel?" Zhou Yun was clearly stunned for a moment.
"Yes, Angel," Margit nodded heavily.
"Which Angel?" Zhou Yun's mouth curled into an interesting smile.
"Who else could it be?" Margit shook his head and said.
"Oh, what a coincidence; actually, I also received guidance from an Angel," Zhou Yun smiled and nodded.
This time it was Margit's turn to be stunned; he looked Zhou Yun up and down.
"Doesn't look like it..." Margit couldn't help but whisper.
"I don't think so either," Zhou Yun nodded in agreement.
Then, he looked at the Corpse Guild behind Morgott and Margit.
"Since I saved your lives, and we are all here under the guidance of an Angel,"
"can you do me a favor?"
Zhou Yun said with a light laugh:
"There's a safe with a small stasis field installed; did you see it? Help me move it out."
Hearing this, Morgott and Margit were both stunned.
Margit looked at Zhou Yun, who was standing a full two or three meters away from the gate of the Corpse Guild, arms crossed, with twelve lasguns hovering behind him, and his mouth twitched slightly.
Looking at this, he didn't intend to step into the Corpse Guild at all.
"Damn heavy," Morgott complained.
That person-sized plasteel safe was dragged out of the Corpse Guild by him and Margit, dragging and carrying it.
Zhou Yun reached out and gently touched the plasteel shell of the safe.
The true value of this safe was not in its thick shell, but in the small stasis field installed inside.
That was a remnant of human research on time technology during the Golden Age, capable of creating an area where time was almost at a standstill.
Besides the field, this technology had also been made into weapons called "stasis bombs."
Lukas the Trickster of the Space Wolves had replaced one of his hearts with a stasis bomb.
If some unlucky guy killed him, this bomb would be detonated, ensuring he and the enemy who killed him would be frozen in time.
According to the intelligence given by Old One-Eye, the stasis field in this safe was a degraded version, only capable of slowing down the flow of time to a limited extent.
But for preserving a notebook, it was enough.
He took out the Anywhere Ring from his Fourth-Dimensional Pocket and snapped it onto the safe.
Through the round hole created by the Anywhere Ring, Zhou Yun saw what was stored in the safe.
It was a notebook bound with creamy, thick paper, wrapped in a soft black lambskin cover, and accompanied by an elastic strap.
A Bondsman No. 7 notebook, custom-made by Ignace Karkasy in a Hive City at the poles of Terra, only two hundred were made.
Zhou Yun used telekinesis to slowly take the notebook out of the safe.
Although it had gone through ten thousand years of long time, this notebook had clearly been properly preserved.
"What is this notebook?" Morgott looked over with curiosity.
He must have been interested in this notebook that actually needed a stasis field to be preserved,
especially since this notebook was actually in the office of that Corpse Guild branch director...
"It's likely just a collection of poems," Zhou Yun said, shaking the notebook in his hand.
After glancing at the notebook and seeing it indeed didn't look like a transcript recording some ancient blasphemous witchcraft, Morgott lost interest.
Zhou Yun held the notebook, his mind beginning to recall the works of this poet from ten thousand years ago.
"Praise of Unification," "Imperial Epic," "Ocean Poetry Collection," "Introspection and Odes,"
and "Truth is All We Have," which cost him his life.
I wonder which one is in this notebook...
Zhou Yun opened the notebook, only to see a note tucked between the flyleaves, clearly torn from this notebook.
It was written in thick, heavy characters, full of power, not like something from a mortal's hand.
A sigh came from the winged figure in the white light at the corner of Zhou Yun's eye.
"It's Captain Loken's handwriting," he said softly.
Captain Loken, Captain of the 10th Company of the Sons of Horus, a member of Horus's advisory Mournival, once ranked alongside Abaddon at the Warmaster's side.
He was a loyalist Son of Horus, the last Luna Wolf in the graveyard of Isstvan III.
This piece of paper was a pre-battle declaration, a vow usually made by an Astartes before battle.
This vow was written by Captain Loken to the mortal Ignace Karkasy, demanding he keep a secret.
"I swear to Captain Garviel Loken, in the name of Terra and the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang, to keep strict confidentiality about what happened tonight, and swear not to reveal this to anyone."
Zhou Yun read the words on the note in a low voice.
Then he opened the notebook:
"Captain Loken demanded I keep it a secret, but First Captain Abaddon almost twisted my neck off; I need to vent the fear in my heart."
"This is my private diary; writing down what just happened here shouldn't count as breaking the vow, right?"
"Just as I said to Captain Loken: 'Even the most talented actor would find it hard to match Erebus's brilliant performance today.'"
"Erebus said Viceroy Temba betrayed Horus, not the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang; he turned this into a personal grudge; he is inducing and deceiving the Warmaster."
"This is definitely not a good thing; First Captain Abaddon might also be involved."
"I saw him with my own eyes hand a silver coin to Erebus... that might be some kind of token of the Warrior Lodge."
