Chapter 20: Honor, Pride, and Brothers
Morgott looked dumbfoundedly out the window; on the roof of the building diagonally opposite the Corpse Guild, a dozen dazzling lights lit up.
A harsh, explosive sound rang out, and beams of focused light shot disorderly into the Corpse Guild, creating small-scale explosions upon impact.
Lasguns, a common piece of Imperial equipment, usually standard issue for the Astra Militarum.
But "common" is relative; an Astra Militarum soldier on a planet like Ashford is a person above people.
For lasguns to appear in a derelict hive sector like the Old Eighth District, it could only be...
"It's that guy Leman Russ."
Morgott hurriedly hid in a blind spot where the lasguns couldn't hit for the moment, roaring loudly:
"Why is this bastard shooting at us too? Is he crazy?"
Margit glanced out the window as quickly as he could and saw the blurry figure on the distant roof.
"He's not here to help us."
Margit quickly made a judgment:
"If I'm not mistaken, the thing he's looking for is also in the Corpse Guild."
"Just seeing the current appearance of the Corpse Guild, any normal person would notice something is wrong."
"And the thing he's looking for might not be easily damaged or..."
Margit glanced at the person-sized plasteel safe embedded in the wall.
"Huh? Is this guy planning to burn the Corpse Guild to ash with lasguns and then find this safe from the ruins?" Morgott's eye twitched slightly.
"That's right; he likely doesn't even know we're inside."
Margit nodded and said.
Or he knew, but he didn't care.
Margit didn't say this out loud.
Just then, the pale woman who had burned off half her lower leg crawled up staggeringly.
She stood on one leg, clutching the triangular blade tightly, and lunged toward Morgott.
The offensive of that triangular blade was so fierce,
it seemed that what was controlling this sword was not thought or reason, but pure desire for destruction.
Morgott raised the rusted, crimson dagger and barely blocked this sword strike from the pale woman.
The blood from his slashed wrist fell with gravity, accumulating in a pool on the ground.
"Defile my blood, flies dance..."
"Itching unbearably, feed the maggots with blood..."
"Lord of all decay, conceive this blood-food."
Harsh, low incantations spilled from Morgott's mouth.
The pool of blood on the ground rolled, bubbling with fine foam, and dark red blood-flies drilled out one by one, gathering into a swarm and pouncing on the pale woman's face.
"Yaaah!!!!"
The pale woman let out a sharp wail as the blood-flies pounced on her face, gnawing away.
Morgott leaned against the wall, panting heavily.
The wall was trembling slightly, and the focused light beams outside the window flickered like stars Morgott had never seen before.
Every second or two, a dozen focused light beams would land inside the Corpse Guild.
These high-heat lasers caused small explosions, igniting the synthetic wood materials and other flammable items inside the building.
This building, which hadn't been maintained for a hundred years and was eroded by various fungi and moss, was already fragile.
Under this continuous, uninterrupted laser bombardment, it was already becoming precarious.
"Are you sick?! We're inside!" Morgott roared at the window.
However, the only response was several lasers shot in from outside the window, burning the luxurious office desk belonging to the Corpse Guild branch director to ash.
"Damn it," Morgott cursed out loud.
"Dodge!" Margit shouted at Morgott.
Stabbing!!!
The triangular blade grazed Morgott's shoulder, nearly piercing him.
Morgott looked at the pale woman, still shaken.
The blood-flies that had just been gnawing on the woman's flesh seemed to have been infected with some kind of disease, falling from her face like raindrops and stiffening on the ground.
The woman's face, gnawed by the blood-flies, was even more terrifying; the skin had almost disappeared, revealing rotting, decaying flesh.
"Jump out the window!" Margit spat a mouthful of rotting digestive fluid, splashing it onto the woman.
A sizzling sound of corrosion rang out, and Margit jumped out the window without looking back.
Morgott hurriedly followed, jumping out the window as well.
On the roof diagonally opposite the Corpse Guild,
Zhou Yun wore the Superpower Hat, with twelve lasguns he was controlling with telekinesis hovering beside him.
He watched as two mutants with twisted horns jumped out of a broken window on the third floor of the Corpse Guild, falling onto the ground in a panic.
A woman in a pale dress, her face looking like it had been gnawed by something, missing half a lower leg and holding a triangular blade, followed out of the window.
She landed heavily and let out a roar like a beast.
"The smell of corruption is heavy."
The winged figure in the white light said:
"The power of the Warp has shattered her brain and soul."
"She is now a beast acting according to the chaotic nature of the Warp."
"See, my caution was correct, right?" Zhou Yun grinned.
Carrying a full load of weapons, he could have directly burned the Corpse Guild to ruins, yet he chose to risk himself...
Zhou Yun wasn't stupid enough to do that.
Back then, Horus insisted on entering the derelict ship on the moon of Davin to slay the traitorous Viceroy, which was why he was corrupted by Chaos.
Clearly, behind Horus stood three Adeptus Mechanicus Titans, which could have blown this derelict ship into wreckage with fire and shells at any time.
"This is a matter of honor; Horus would not back down."
The winged figure in the white light sighed:
"The Viceroy of Davin, Temba, was once a member of the expeditionary force, personally selected by Horus as Viceroy."
"But he betrayed the Empire and betrayed Horus's trust; therefore, Horus had to sanction the traitor with his own sword."
Listening to the words of the winged figure in the white light, Zhou Yun shook his head.
"Honor, pride, brotherhood."
Zhou Yun said while using telekinesis to turn the barrels of the lasguns:
"Many things in the galaxy are ruined by these three words..."
As his voice fell, scorching lasers whistled out.
Morgott scrambled up from the ground, looking at the pale woman behind him who was as crazy as a beast.
She held the triangular blade, grinning and laughing wildly at Morgott and Margit.
Morgott only felt a sense of suffocation; clutching his dagger, he was already considering whether to use that more powerful and dangerous spell...
Sizzle——————
An explosive sound rang out, and twelve scorching beams whistled past Morgott's face, landing on the pale woman's body.
Small explosions rose on the woman's body, shaving off her limbs, torso, and half her head.
The pale woman let out a wail, falling heavily to the ground, a hoarse roar coming from her throat.
A few seconds later, another twelve beams landed, shooting onto the pale woman's body.
This was repeated several times until the pale woman was completely burned to ash, and the beams stopped.
Morgott looked behind him, still shaken.
He only saw a figure wearing a ridiculous hat appear two or three meters outside the gate of the Corpse Guild.
Zhou Yun showed a brilliant smile, waving at Morgott and Margit:
"Yo! Aren't these the brothers Morgott and Margit? What a coincidence, you're here too?"
