Chapter 679: Hive Mind, you are truly too difficult to control!
Under the control of the Hive Mind, the Lictor in a stealth state instantly pounced behind Fabius Bile. This Tyranid assassin did not even stir a ripple in the air.
The sharp blade tore through the air, and the sickle blade hooked around Fabius Bile's neck.
The head of this Chief Apothecary of the Emperor's Children and creator of the New Men flew into the sky, then hit the ceiling, bounced back to the ground, and landed on the floor with a thud.
Fabius's body seemed not to have reacted yet, swaying and retreating a step, then falling to the ground. The blood flowing from his neck stained the floor red.
It was simply effortless.
The Lictor's figure appeared in this laboratory, allowing Fabius's head, which had not yet lost consciousness, to see its figure.
This Tyranid creature raised its two massive sickle claws high. This action, for any creature, was obviously a sign of celebrating victory.
Yes, this was certainly worth celebrating.
That blood that made the Hive Mind drool...
It had once pursued one of the twenty gene sequences in this blood, and it had paid a great sacrifice for it but failed to obtain it.
Now, using only one Lictor, it had easily obtained twenty equally powerful gene sequences.
How could it not celebrate this victory?
It wanted to modify and dissolve these twenty powerful gene sequences, using them to shape a brand-new node creature. This creature would be above all Tyranid creatures; it would contain the Hive Mind's own existence, radiating and linking all Tyranid creatures outside the distant stars, becoming the node of nodes, the lighthouse of the Hive.
It was full of joy, controlling the Lictor to ingest the bright red blood suspended in mid-air——————
SNAP!!!
Fabius Bile's headless corpse on the ground suddenly moved.
To be precise, it was the mechanical backpack Chirurgeon behind Fabius Bile that moved.
One of the Chirurgeon's mechanical arms instantly unfolded, and a needle pierced fiercely toward the Lictor.
This kind of attack, relying on the Lictor's neural reaction speed, should have been dodgeable.
But this Lictor did not have its own will; it was controlled by the Hive Mind across the Warp.
That slight delay became a fatal flaw.
The needle pierced into the Lictor's skin. The specially designed 3D mesh foam skin was indeed light, soft, sound-absorbing, and scent-absorbing, but it was inferior to the skin of normal Tyranid creatures in terms of defensive performance.
The anesthetic from Nuceria was injected into its body, spreading rapidly within the 3D mesh foam skin, just like a sponge soaking up water. This anesthetic even seeped into the Lictor's hollow bone structure almost without obstruction. This lightweight structure, copied from the T'au gene sequence, instead helped the anesthetic flow to every corner of this body.
But the powerful immune system inherent in Tyranid creatures was still playing a role. The glands in its body began to secrete various forms of hormones, attempting to counteract the effects brought by the anesthetic.
However, the composition of this anesthetic was unheard of and unseen for the Tyranid swarm. There was no record of this anesthetic in the swarm's memory bank. For a time, the various glands within the Lictor could not secrete corresponding hormones.
In fact, even Fabius Bile himself could not quite figure out the specific composition of this Nuceria anesthetic; he only vaguely sensed that it contained some kind of Warp technology, seemingly used by the Golden Age to capture giant semi-Warp, semi-reality creatures like Void Whales... and this anesthetic theoretically had miraculous effects on Primarchs, possibly because Primarchs themselves were equivalent to a mixture of Warp and reality, but most Primarchs had a natural immunity to drugs and were not so easily anesthetized.
And this Lictor was, in fact, equivalent to a mixture of a reality-universe Tyranid war-beast body and the Hive Mind in the Warp. This anesthetic also erupted with targeted effects, making the Hive Mind feel that membranes had appeared between it and this Lictor, making the control of this Tyranid war-beast much more difficult.
The Lictor stumbled and retreated a step, then with a crack, its body went numb, and it fell to the ground.
But the Lictor had not yet been knocked out; its immune system was rapidly decomposing the anesthetic, and the Hive Mind was also rapidly regaining control of this Tyranid creature.
It was indeed numb, but only a little bit, for a short while.
But a short while was enough to be fatal. The laboratory door was torn apart by golden claws, and Melusine let out a shriek like a banshee, wrapped in silver gauze, killing her way to the Lictor like a hurricane.
Sharp claws pierced into the Lictor's brain, and Melusine's fingers exerted force, crushing the Lictor's head into fragments.
This Tyranid war-beast, carefully designed by the Hive Mind and the Norn Queen, fell to the ground and died.
"Why be so violent?" Fabius Bile walked out from behind the door with a smile. He glanced at his corpse on the ground, signaling the slaves behind him to move it out.
"I am not really dead, after all," he said.
Fabius was similar to Belisarius Cawl; they had long ago abandoned the limitations of the individual and become existences close to a gestalt consciousness.
When one body died, Fabius Bile's will would project into another body through a Wraithbone Prism, thereby completing resurrection.
What that Lictor killed was only one of his many bodies.
In the Warp, at the Moon-Viewing Terrace, in the Honekawa residence,
Omnissiah Xiao Fu stared blankly at the Lictor's body lying on the ground.
Just a little bit... just a little bit.
Numerous secret calculations, spending time to cultivate a civilization to preserve a Tyranid swarm tendril, guiding the inspiration of the pieces in the game bit by bit, letting Fabius obtain the Source Blood Stack, and just happening to run into this Tyranid swarm tendril—all just to let the Hive Mind happen to get the Source Blood Stack without introducing suspicion.
Yet all the calculations failed at the last moment, just because...
"What kind of Hive Mind is this! Are you fucking kidding me! Why are you popping champagne at halftime!!"
"The Source Blood Stack was fed to your mouth!!! And you fucking flipped the car!!"
Omnissiah Xiao Fu couldn't help but roar, kicking over the screen in front of him, his face looking somewhat ferocious.
Zhou Yun, sitting to the side, also reached out somewhat helplessly to support his head.
"You play Tyranids like the Hive Mind," Zhou Yun said while shaking his head. "Better to set it to auto."
All life in the Tyranid swarm race, in essence, did not have a true will. They were more like some kind of insect-artificial intelligence, without emotions, absolutely rational, and not disturbed by sensibility—except for the Hive Mind itself.
Even though It was the collection of the entire Tyranid swarm and perhaps the largest creature in this universe, It was ultimately a creature. It was starving, would be happy because of eating, would be annoyed because of failure, would get carried away, would celebrate, would be influenced by sensibility, and even as a Warp existence, Its emotions were even more extreme and impulsive than normal creatures.
This led to many times when the Hive Mind personally intervened in battles, fighting even worse than when It set it to auto and let the swarm command itself.
In the original timeline, during the Battle of Baal, the Hive Mind personally intervened to have the Swarm Lord fight Dante, almost killing Dante, but because It popped champagne at halftime, It was counter-killed by Dante and flipped the car.
In Zhou Yun's more than twenty thousand dreams, the Hive Mind also showed great uncontrollability.
In the dreams, sometimes the Hive Mind would successfully swallow the Source Blood Stack, and sometimes It would flip the car in all sorts of strange ways, which could be said to be incompetent to a high level. ===== CHAPTER 680 =====
