Chapter 340: The Hegemony of the Firmament Shall Be Built, Awaiting the Young Master's Summons
Putting away the undying corpse, Alec and the others did not rush to leave, instead observing their surroundings.
As could be seen, their gazes burned bright, brimming with fervor, their eyes sweeping back and forth like radar.
Kamikawa Mitsu saw this and could not decide whether to laugh or cry.
Yesterday they were picking up corpses at a scumbag bar; today, gods and demons are picking up corpses at Naiheqiao.
After a full sweep of the area, Alec and the others found no other corpses—only the withered bones of gods and demons, none of which reached the level of undying.
Alec and the others sighed, but on second thought they let it go.
An undying existence—looking across all ages and every otherworld, one might not even find a single one; among ten thousand gods and demons, not one might become undying. Those who become undying are none other than the invincible among gods and demons, supreme existences; in every age of all the heavens, there may not be even one.
Being able to discover one now could be said to be the virtue accumulated by one's ancestors over eight generations.
"What is that?"
Having failed to find an undying corpse, they did not rush to leave; looking toward a spot not far from the bridgehead, their attention was drawn to a stone.
It was a giant stone not as tall as a person.
The stone was entirely brownish-red, with congealed blood of gods and demons upon it, emanating an unfathomable eeriness that made one unable to resist gazing at the stone.
As if by looking at that stone, one could see one's truest self.
What drew the eye most were three straight-line markings on the stone—three lines arranged vertically, not intersecting. At the top of the stone were carved three ancient characters in blood-red.
The Stone of Three Lives!
These were the characters inscribed on the stone.
Seeing this stone, even without looking at the three characters upon it, Kamikawa Mitsu understood what the stone was—this was the Stone of Three Lives.
The legendary mysterious stone that stands by the Chuanhe River, through which one may see one's past life, present life, and future life.
In the folklore of Hua Nation, the Netherworld's underworld holds many legends about the Stone of Three Lives. The most widely circulated one tells that when Nüwa mended the heavens in ancient times and used clay to create humans, she left behind a grain of sand to count each person she made; in the end, the sands accumulated into stone.
And that stone is the Stone of Three Lives.
Kamikawa Mitsu did not pay the Stone of Three Lives much attention—after all, he knew his past life very well; he had been reborn into this world carrying the memories of his previous life.
And understanding the future life?
He had no need for it at all. He only believed in the present life, not the next. So long as in this life he transcended everything, what talk was there of a future life?
Therefore.
He set his gaze upon an earthen platform before the Stone of Three Lives.
"That should be the Wangxiang Terrace."
The earthen platform was broken; even a casual glance could tell that this place had once suffered fierce attacks, causing a savage crack to split the platform in two.
Kamikawa Mitsu narrowed his eyes, carefully examining the Wangxiang Terrace.
Unfortunately, the Wangxiang Terrace was utterly empty—apart from a chipped broken bowl, there was nothing else; he did not see the corpse or person he had hoped to find.
The Wangxiang Terrace—legend has it that when a person dies and enters the netherworld, after crossing Naiheqiao they encounter an earthen platform. Upon the platform sits an old woman named Meng Po, who will have you stand upon the terrace and take one last look at the human world.
Standing upon the Wangxiang Terrace, one may gaze through the human world.
Once you have finished looking upon the human world, Meng Po will give you a bowl of soup boiled from the waters of the Chuanhe River, called "Meng Po's Soup."
Drink this soup, and you forget everything of this life, let go of all the ties of this life, walk into the Yellow Springs of reincarnation, and pass through the Six Paths to be reborn.
"Sigh."
Kamikawa Mitsu sighed, a look of regret in his eyes.
To tell the truth, he very much wanted to meet Meng Po face to face, to ask her something.
As for what the world within the mysterious fog was, it could now be basically confirmed—this place was the legendary Netherworld, where the dead are reborn. Moreover, it was not the Hua Nation's Netherworld; this Netherworld seemed to encompass all the heavens of the world.
When the living beings of all the heavens of the world die, they must all come here to be reborn.
Kamikawa Mitsu was very curious—if all living beings of the world came here to be reborn, then what about himself? Was it possible that when he died in his past life, he had actually come here to be reborn as well?
If he had been reborn here, then the question arose.
That question was the reason Kamikawa Mitsu wanted to meet Meng Po face to face.
If only he had seen Meng Po, he would have very much liked to ask her directly:
"Meng Po, an honest man speaks no hidden words—why do I still have memories of my past life after being reborn into this life? Did you not give me Meng Po's Soup, or did you add too much water to the Meng Po's Soup you gave me?"
As the thought arose, Kamikawa Mitsu shook his head.
Having spent too long with Chie, his own train of thought was almost being led astray by her.
……
Earth, the Pacific Ocean, the sea area where the mysterious fog was located.
After Alec and the others had picked up an undying corpse, they did not cross Naiheqiao, choosing instead to return by the same route.
The shadowy world on the far side of Naiheqiao gave them a very bad feeling; going there would surely mean death. They could only give up, bringing the situation here back to Kamikawa Mitsu for him to decide what to do.
"Let's go, back to report."
Alec and the others flew toward Japan.
That night.
Eight o'clock in the evening.
After dinner, Kamikawa Mitsu took the excuse of going out for a walk to find Alec and the others; taking the undying corpse from them, he at the same time gave them treasures brought back from the Great Wasteland Great World.
"Well done. These are your rewards."
"Thank the Young Master for his gracious gift." Alec and the others excitedly accepted the treasures.
"Since the far side of Naiheqiao within the mysterious fog is dangerous, you need not go there again. I now have other tasks for you—there are two tasks; you may choose for yourselves."
Kamikawa Mitsu paused briefly, then continued:
"First, return to your original world, continue to develop your own force, strengthen your own force, and wait. In the future, should I have need of your force, I will summon you.
Second, I will send you to another world to raise your own strength, and at the same time develop your own force, and wait for my summons in the future."
Without exception, Aleck and the others all chose the second option.
There was no other reason—they were well aware of the shackles of the world they lived in, and they already knew their own world like the back of their hands. To continue raising their strength was harder than ascending to heaven; otherwise, they would not have remained stuck at their current realm all this time.
Rather than developing forces in their original world and striving to break through their realm, it was better to take a gamble, head to a new world, seek opportunities, and explore a brand-new heaven and earth.
Those who could become gods and demons were no weaklings; every one of them possessed the heart of a strong expert. None were willing to fall behind, all wished to pursue strength, and none would shrink back in fear simply because the unknown new world might hold danger—they carried a heart that pressed forward without retreat.
Most importantly, they trusted that the world Kamikawa Mitsu sent them to would not be one that harmed them, and that it would surely be stronger than their original world, helping them break through their shackles.
Kamikawa Mitsu nodded.
After spending a certain number of script points, he selected powerful worlds suited to them. In a world like that, so long as they did not die, they would gain a new set of opportunities, and breaking through their current realm would be no problem—as for how far they could go, that depended on their own fortune.
"We shall surely live up to the Young Master's great expectations, and we will surely build a dominion beneath the heavens, awaiting the Young Master's summons."
The six of them—Aleck and the others—stepped together into the interdimensional portal.
Kamikawa Mitsu watched them depart.
He greatly looked forward to Aleck and the others' future performance, and he was equally eager to see what shocked expressions the forces of this otherworld would wear.
Six gods and demons, establishing six different factions, secretly supporting one another—once attacked by another faction, a single tug would move the whole body, and what greeted the hostile faction would not be one faction, but six.
"I really can't wait to see the looks on the faces of this world's power brokers when their jaws drop to the floor."
Kamikawa Mitsu smiled with a beaming grin, as if a Tsukuyomi deity had possessed him.
