Chapter 380: Double-Pupiled Cangjie

~8 min read 1,422 words

"They don't seem to be deities from ancient Babylonian mythology."

The Star Demons' immortal-demon eyes flickered.

They looked back and forth at the attire of these dozen-plus Immortals, as well as their bearing and spirit; the systems they cultivated differed greatly from ancient Babylonian mythology.

Moreover, there were differences among themselves — they didn't seem to come from the same mythology; several mythologies must have come.

Previously, by reading people's memories, the various immortal-demon-magic beings had already come to understand — if not all, then at least the essentials of — the mythologies of the Initial Realm.

The Four Great Mythologies and every major powerful mythology were clear to them.

"Those are deities from Hua Nation's mythology, I suppose."

A certain god-demon gestured toward that middle-aged man in an ancient crown, as well as that ghost-god, and also a female immortal with a slender, fairy-like figure, dressed in a seven-colored glazed skirt, draped in a pure-white celestial shawl — every smile and frown of hers put all things to shame.

The three bore a striking resemblance to immortal-god figures from Hua Nation's mythology.

Unfortunately, Hua Nation's mythological history was vast and its mythological figures numerous; the various immortal-demon-magic beings could not take them all in at once.

Hua Nation's mythology was ancient; even Hua Nation's mythologists could not claim with certainty to know every mythological figure.

The various immortal-demon-magic beings had not recognized who these three were.

But they were absolutely certain that these three must be immortals and gods of Hua Nation's mythology.

As for those three Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, there was no need to identify them — at a glance one could tell they were deities from ancient Indian mythology.

And those three with animal heads and human bodies — judging by their appearance and attire — were likewise easily identified: deities of ancient Egyptian mythology.

The Four Great Mythologies lived up to their name; they were highly recognizable.

The others they could not identify for the moment, but presumably all came from powerful mythologies.

The Four Great Mythologies, arriving together with Immortals from various great mythologies — what was this for?

The people were puzzled.

Then, the dozen-plus Immortals glanced at one another and nodded slightly, as if saying something.

At this moment, the gathered gods, demons, immortals, and devils were dumbfounded.

So busy understanding this world's mythologies, they had forgotten about the language issue.

At the same time.

The bigwigs of nations around the world were also getting anxious.

"What are you standing around for? Where are the oral interpreters? Hurry up and translate what they said!"

Within the scene.

"Amitabha. Donor Cangjie, I did not expect it to be you who came."

The one who spoke was a Buddha holding a vajra, riding a white elephant, his features more beautiful than any woman's.

The moment the words fell, the world was shaken.

Cangjie?!

Wasn't that the very person who originally created the writing of Hua Nation?

People could not help but look toward this middle-aged man's eyes.

Those eyes were different from others — a single eye with double pupils, uncanny and mysterious.

As if they could see through all the illusions of the world; the truths of heaven and earth had nowhere to hide within them; nothing throughout all the heavens could escape those twin pupils; one glance and a person felt all their secrets laid bare, with nowhere to hide.

These were double pupils!

Legend had it that Cangjie, a subordinate of the Yellow Emperor, invented writing, and that he was born with double pupils.

Cangjie gave this white-elephant-riding Buddha a slight smile; within his double pupils flowed the light of the opening of primordial chaos, as if worlds were living and dying within his gaze.

He spoke:

"Śakra, long time no see. In just a thousand years apart, your strength has advanced considerably — it seems you haven't been lacking in bitter cultivation."

The moment his words fell.

That Buddha called Śakra, seated upon the white elephant, smiled; his smile was handsome. If he were not a Buddha but wore the attire of Hua Nation — in a scholar's garb he would be a dashing, extraordinary scholar; in a military robe, a valiant young general.

"Amitabha. This poor monk thought he had hidden it well enough, but still could not escape your double pupils."

Regarding Cangjie's words, the Buddha did not deny them, but admitted them openly.

The other Buddhas present, and the Immortals from other mythologies, were surprised at Śakra's advancement in strength.

It seemed they too had some connection with and understanding of Śakra, but had not perceived his advancement in strength — clearly, as he had said, he had hidden it.

Yet in the end, it was seen through by Cangjie.

They marveled at the power of Cangjie's double pupils.

Tokyo, Japan.

"Śakra? Who's that?" someone asked, puzzled.

Weren't all the names from ancient Indian mythology a real mouthful?

His good friend, a mythology enthusiast, pushed up his glasses and spoke bluntly:

"You might not know Śakra, but if I say Indra, you should recognize that, right?"

"Indra?" That person was first stunned, his face full of strangeness: "Indra — no way, isn't that the character from Naruto? The first human to use chakra in battle, the Six Paths Sage's son."

At this point, his expression shook as he said:

"No way — could Naruto actually be a mythological story? An ancient Indian mythology at that? My god, is it really that amazing?"

The mythology enthusiast: "……"

A sharp rap landed on the other's head.

Then the mythology enthusiast rolled his eyes and said, exasperated:

"I've told you time and again to watch less Naruto and read more books. Of course Naruto can't be a mythological story — it's a manga, for heaven's sake.

The name Indra in Naruto was actually taken by Kishimoto from the name of a deity in ancient Indian mythology. The real Indra refers to the deity Indra from ancient Indian mythology — that is, Śakra.

In ancient Indian mythology, Indra is the foremost of the eight guardian gods of the ancient Indian world.

He is also the god of thunder and lightning, the chief of the gods, and later became the Heavenly King.

And in Buddhism, Emperor Shitian is the second of the twenty heavens, one of the twelve heavens, guarding the east of ancient India.

It is no exaggeration to say that in ancient Indian mythology, Emperor Shitian is an awesome god, one of the main deities of ancient Indian mythology."

While the mythology enthusiast was explaining to his companion, Cangjie and Emperor Shitian were also conversing.

"Brother Emperor Shitian, you have taken a great step forward on the path to the Supreme this time. It seems that in not too long, you can attempt the breakthrough to the Supreme realm, to transcend the ages, and ancient India will gain another Supreme."

Cangjie's double pupils flowed with chaotic light.

As he spoke, he swept his gaze over the undying beings present, his eyes finally settling on Emperor Shitian.

"I roughly understand why the Burning Heaven Supreme sent you this time."

The meaning was plain: Emperor Shitian was about to become a Supreme existence, that is, one who transcends the ages!

With him representing ancient Indian mythology on the trip to ancient Babylonian mythology, there was no need to worry about the matter not being accomplished, and at the same time it would showcase the might of ancient Indian mythology to all the great mythologies of the Primordial Realm.

It also signaled to the four great mythologies and all the major mythologies that ancient Indian mythology would, in the not-too-distant future, perhaps gain another Supreme!

The Supreme is the existence standing at the very pinnacle of all realms in the world, second only to that ethereal, elusive Oneness. If the Oneness does not appear, the Supreme is heaven.

"Amitabha, Patron Cangjie jests."

Emperor Shitian pressed his palms together, his body radiating immeasurable precious light, a faint smile and a touch of emotion on his handsome face:

"Transcending the ages is so difficult. Even though this poor monk possesses the possibility of attempting the Supreme, I dare not say I will surely succeed. Since ancient times, how many Supremes have attempted the breakthrough, yet in the end only so few have achieved the Supreme.

Amitabha. May this poor monk succeed in the attempt and add a measure of strength to the Primordial Realm."
