Chapter 20: The Awakened
Seeing that these fellows were doing well, Saina sat back in the carriage and said to her confidant, Evans, "Rest assured, these fellows shouldn't have any problems, at least not in these two days; they are much smarter than I thought."
"Just looking at it like this, you can't see any problems at all. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't even believe they were created by an Evil God..." Evans said with a cold face, "But I still want to remind you, don't play with fire and get burned; no one ever has a good outcome after believing in an Evil God."
"Is that so? You could also choose to tell me how to become an Awakened," Saina laughed eerily, "If I could also become an Awakened, my father wouldn't look down on me."
Evans shook his head, "Believe me, you shouldn't walk this path, especially if you don't go through the Church's channels; there are too many dangers on the road to becoming an Awakened..."
"Forget it, if you don't want to help me, then I'll solve the problem my own way." Saina didn't want to say anything more to Evans; although this fellow had done well over the years, he had never been willing to help her become an Awakened from start to finish. "Enough said, I also bought a few tickets this afternoon; it is said that the Emond Theater has a new dance performance."
And that crazy Lord of Calamity had never told her the method to become an Awakened either.
If it weren't for the fact that she was already involved with an Evil God and couldn't easily shake it off, Saina might have already chosen to believe in another Evil God.
She felt that these deities did not want pious faith, but rather sufficient help.
As it happened, she was just able to provide that help.
The carriage soon left the Nongzhuang and arrived at the bustling central area of Tana City. Saina looked at the Government Building, where her father should be busy with something, and then looked at the towering Clock Tower to the side.
Who would have thought that the fellow who gave her father a headache was right under the Municipal Hall at this moment?
As long as she could make him have a bad time, that would be enough; as for becoming an Awakened, she would know when a suitable opportunity arose.
Crossing the Vina River, the carriage stopped steadily at the Emond Theater. As one of the few theaters without too many religious performances, Saina always came to take a look when there were new programs here.
Because the Emond Theater itself did not focus on performing for any one deity.
It performed more stories from the Second Era, when there were not many deities.
Yes, she did not believe in any deity, although she was a Believer of Calamity.
In her view, pious belief would not change her fate.
There were quite a few people who came to watch the dance performance; everyone was still somewhat interested in new shows, especially since the Emond Theater had not had a new performance for a long time.
The excellent actors in the theater had long been poached by other theaters; of course, this was also because the Emond Theater did not perform the scripts of any one specific religious sect, but rather performed a bit of everything.
After all, most people had deities they believed in; if what was being performed was not a script of the deity they believed in, they would likely leave this theater.
"The poster is quite well-made; I heard it's a dancer from Xiahui, which is indeed rare." Evans rarely accompanied Saina to watch a performance.
Saina hadn't said a word since she entered the door, as if she had something on her mind.
In the VIP box, Saina rubbed her brow and then looked toward the center of the stage.
If she remembered correctly, that beautiful and glamorous woman should be a Believer by the side of Calamity.
Damn it, to actually see her in the theater.
Could there be some special operation?
She turned her head and said to Evans, "Help me keep an eye on things here; there might be some problems."
"You mean..." Evans raised an eyebrow, "Indeed, there are other Awakened here."
"How many?" A worried expression appeared on Saina's face.
She had finally managed to settle Calamity down, and she didn't want problems to arise now.
After all, her father would stop working after two in the afternoon; even if something really happened, it shouldn't affect him too much.
"Don't worry, I'll be right back." As Saina's steward, his strength was not low. Lowering his head, he went straight downstairs, prepared to keep an eye on that restless Awakened.
Hearing Evans's words, Saina felt much more at ease. Perhaps she was just too nervous; Calamity had been quite well-behaved lately and shouldn't do anything out of line.
The curtain opened, and Saina fixed her eyes on the center of the stage again. Under the spotlight, Yezi, wearing flowing clothing, was bending over, performing a high-difficulty move.
Soon, she unfolded her body like a spring, imbuing her limbs with rhythm and expressing a different kind of emotion.
It was truly beautiful; Saina had already forgotten the person she had just seen, staring intently at the performance on stage.
The people in the audience were the same; almost everyone was focused on the performance on stage, and no one could spare attention for anything else.
In a corner, Evans had already locked onto the person holding a medicine bottle. Looking at that woman's eyes, she should be from Xiahui.
On the contrary, the girl on the stage showed no trace of Xiahui blood at all.
The woman looked around nervously. As the air flowed, the woman shivered and opened the bottle in her hand.
"What's going on?" The bottle in her hand suddenly turned into a porcelain teacup; the original bottle had actually disappeared.
Susan looked around in surprise. Those people had urged her that she must complete the task today; she should have acted last night.
But last night, in order to provide musical accompaniment for Miss Ye, the theater had actually announced a one-day suspension of performances.
So she had to choose to carry out her plan during today's performance.
There must be other Awakened; it was all her own carelessness. Over these years, her life had been too simple, and she had forgotten how dangerous the world of the Awakened was.
Now she must have been exposed. Susan took two steps back and leaned against the wall. The other party surely wouldn't want to cause too much of a stir; if she ran, it wasn't like there was no chance.
It was just that if she didn't complete the task, the Red Moon Cultists would not let her off.
"Is it a witch? Actually a Believer of the Red Moon." Looking at the medicine in her hand, Evans raised an eyebrow. If a Ritual were to be manufactured in the Emond Theater today, the reputation of the Wealth Church would be completely swept away.
One had to know that the people who could watch performances in the theater were basically middle-class, and some were even nobles to begin with.
And if these people met with an accident, it would affect those noble lords.
By then, no matter how the Wealth Church tried to cover it up, they would be unable to hide one fact: that they could no longer control the various sacrificial events happening in the city.
It was just that Miss Saina's affairs also needed the Wealth Church to cover them up. Evans stared fixedly at the woman in front of him.
If he wasn't mistaken, the other party should only be an Apprentice Witch; unless she could get a Magic Broom, it would be impossible for her to escape.
