Chapter 51: Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket

~7 min read 1,270 words

"I need to know where the gatherings of Transcendentalists are in Tana City, and how to participate in them. Be careful when you investigate; if it's not possible, don't force it." Chen Zhi intended to not put all his eggs in one basket.

Since he had to provide development directions for the players, besides the forces of the orthodox gods, he also had to consider some less official organizations.

For example, those more secretive gatherings.

For example, the relatively secretive Sun God Cult and so on.

The players could indeed scout for information; as long as Chen Zhi kept an eye on these players, he would always be able to learn some clues.

But it was too much of a waste of time; the players couldn't communicate.

This wasn't Chen Zhi's fault; he could make the players understand through their bodies, but for them to speak, they had to rely on themselves.

Therefore, people like Andrew could come in handy.

"I shall strictly follow your holy decree!" Andrew lowered his head piously. After such a long time, he finally had a mission of his own.

Appeasing those Believers had always been something he was doing anyway, and now he finally had something useful to do.

Pious Andrew left the Sewers and headed toward the Factory District. Most of the people here were poor Tana People, and they believed in all sorts of churches.

Most people could only get off work at night and only had time to gather in the dead of night. Soon, Andrew arrived at a goose factory located on the White Brick Main Road, carrying a book.

This goose factory smelled quite foul; it was a place where various factory owners and masters would never come. Even the foremen were too lazy to come here; anyway, this was just a place for plucking goose feathers, so no supervision was needed.

"Archbishop." The gatekeeper lowered his head and bowed obsequiously, saying, "Is there any new news today?"

"Yes, lead the way quickly. Have them gather all the Believers; I have important matters to discuss." Don't look at how humble Andrew was before Chen Zhi; in front of these Believers, he was not humble at all, but rather an Archbishop whose word was law.

The gatekeeper cleverly looked around and then led Archbishop Andrew to the backyard.

In the courtyard, more than thirty Believers had already gathered. These Believers were all poor people with no homes, and they usually worked odd jobs.

Most of them were elderly, making it hard to find work, and they likely had physical disabilities as well.

It was precisely because of this that they believed that worshipping Calamity was the right path. These people were all devout Believers, so they obeyed Andrew implicitly.

"We have recently recruited a few new people, and they are all young." Seeing Andrew, Philips hurried over to report.

"You have done well." Andrew patted Philips on the shoulder. "Now you need to bring them all over."

"No need, they are right nearby." As he spoke, Philips shouted a few times toward the outside of the courtyard, and a dozen or so children ran out from the shacks.

They really were young...

Andrew didn't mind. "Are you all certain you want to worship Calamity?"

"My lord, we are willing to worship the Lord of Calamity. It was the Lord of Calamity who gave us black bread." To children, whoever fed them was their master. "If it weren't for Calamity, we would have been taken away by hunger long ago."

"You are here because of what happened a while ago. Yes, Grain has indeed been very scarce recently." Andrew realized something.

Before the witch incident, an evil rainfall had once occurred in Tana City, affecting many fields.

Although Tana City was a place where spring lasted all four seasons, a period without a Grain harvest meant that a large number of poor people in the city would die.

"Philips, you must purchase more Grain later. We will be moving into a newly built inn, and we have new tasks."

"Yes, Archbishop. What should we do now?" Philips said excitedly.

Ever since the Lord of Calamity had gone into hiding, there hadn't been many new tasks for them. Andrew only occasionally found a few Believers to help him transport "new Believers" into the Sewers.

It was said that these new Believers were summoned by the Lord of Calamity, and the Believers were even more pious about this; after all, Calamity could reshape life!

Almost everyone hoped that after death, they could enter the Divine Kingdom of the Lord of Calamity.

"We need to be sharper. Spread out and inquire about spiritual items and Transcendental Power. We have never done this before. We know too little about Tana City, and we don't even know what Transcendental Events have occurred. For my Lord, this is a dereliction of our duty."

The Believers lowered their heads piously. "Transcendental Power? Spiritual items?"

This was all too unfamiliar to them.

"Yes, as long as we can find out, that is enough. I will distribute 10 Tana to each of you every day, so you will have enough time to scout for information and ensure you won't starve to death. However, Philips, your task is still to develop more Believers."

Philips patted his chest. "No problem, I will bring all the orphans from the Factory District here."

"No, I mean bring them to our new inn. We can use that place as an Orphanage. Of course, you must find those who are devoutly religious, otherwise, it will be detrimental to my Lord."

Andrew was authoritative in front of these people; even his aura was different.

He had to regain the favor that belonged to him in front of the Lord of Calamity.

Recently, he had a strong sense of crisis; even that Susan seemed to have more presence than him!

Because the Lord of Calamity had actually handed the task of transcribing those pinyin to Susan!

This was clearly supposed to be his task!

Evans never expected that the Lord of Calamity would want to see him.

In fact, he didn't expect the Lord of Calamity to even have a brain.

He had always believed that Saina worshipping the Lord of Calamity was unwise, and he had long wanted Saina to leave this foolish deity.

Or rather, Calamity was simply not worthy of being a deity.

He hadn't even done anything to Saina to ensure she would be punished if she broke her faith.

He hadn't placed any Curse on Saina, nor had he given her any blessings.

And he had even gone out of his way to purchase a Charm for removing Curses from the Sun God Cult.

That cost quite a bit of money!

"I will go." After thinking for a moment, Evans said, "Why do you think He is looking for me?"

"He seems to have changed a lot, becoming more and more rational, and He seems to have forgotten many things. I found that He is slowly growing, just like a newborn Item, but sometimes He is not something I can fathom." Saina frowned and said, "He is very interested in spiritual items and Transcendental Power, and hopes to find the underground trading organizations of Tana City."

"Heh, and what does He have that can be used for trading?" Evans said flippantly.

"Rats, those Mutated Rats. The new Believers under His command can completely hunt more Mutated Rats." Saina said affirmatively, "That is the business of the Wealth Church. I think He is going to target the Wealth Church this time."
