Chapter 76: Old Yet Undying Is a Thief
"You're dreaming!" Wu Teng Qianqiu finally broke down, shouting hysterically, "Who do you think you are? Just a petty Fourth Bureau Chief!"
"If you dare lay a hand on me, the entire Eastern Empire won't let you go! The Ninth Division will flatten all of Shen City! You bunch of Chinese…"
Bang!
Lin Yu pulled the trigger without hesitation.
At close range, the shotgun's power was astonishing, instantly turning Wu Teng Qianqiu's head into a cloud of blood mist. Countless pellets shredded his skull into fragments, blood and white bone splinters spraying everywhere.
His body stiffened for a moment, then he fell heavily into the pool of blood.
Fresh blood seeped through the tatami seams, dyeing the entire private room a blinding red.
The remaining guards were so frightened they collapsed on the floor, not daring to move a muscle.
"Tsk," Lin Yu sniffed, glancing at the blood splatter on his suit, "You've really dirtied my clothes."
He casually tossed the Winchester shotgun to a nearby subordinate, then took out a handkerchief to wipe the blood spots from his face.
Then, he turned to the trembling guards, flashing a hint of a knowing smile.
"Gentlemen," his voice was eerily gentle, "Do you wish to follow in your envoy's footsteps?"
The guards shivered all over and hurriedly shook their heads.
"Very well," Lin Yu nodded with satisfaction, "Then let's see how you perform."
Qin Dong Zhi watched the scene, his heart roiling with turbulent waves.
This madman actually dared to kill the Eastern Empire's envoy!
Qin Dong Zhi looked at the blood‑stained floor and shredded flesh, feeling a mix of emotions.
The goal was achieved: Wu Teng Qianqiu is dead here, the Easterners and the French Concession will surely erupt in fury. Then he can take advantage of the chaos and profit from it.
But…
Lin Yu's decisiveness and ruthlessness sent a chill through his mind.
This young man is a complete lunatic. He says kill and kills, without blinking an eye. And he did it right before my eyes as Security Commander, directly executing the Eastern Empire's envoy.
People like this are the truly dangerous ones.
Qin Dong Zhi secretly felt relieved that he hadn't clashed with Lin Yu. Otherwise, he would have already become a pile of rotten flesh on the ground.
"Director Lin!" he feigned surprise as he stood, "You're being far too impulsive!"
"Wu Teng's envoy, no matter what, is still a diplomatic representative of the Eastern Empire. Doing this will surely bring huge trouble!"
His tone carried reproach, yet his eyes silently observed Lin Yu's reaction.
At a time like this, it's best to pose as a worried, good‑natured old man.
It lets him shed suspicion while testing Lin Yu's attitude.
"The Ninth Division isn't something to trifle with," he continued, "What you're doing is tantamount to declaring war on the entire Eastern Empire!"
His words sounded sincere, as if he truly worried for Lin Yu.
But in reality, he knew better than anyone that the situation had unfolded exactly as he wanted.
Letting Lin Yu and the Easterners turn on each other lets him profit from the chaos.
He hadn't expected Lin Yu's methods to be so ruthless.
This forced him to reassess the young man's danger level.
Qin Dong Zhi let out a sigh and began his performance.
"Alas," he shook his head, a worried look on his face, "What shall we do now? The Eastern envoy's death in Shen City is a monumental affair!"
He paced as if truly concerned for Great Dry: "If the court learns of this, they'll be furious. This could spark a war!"
"The Ninth Division is arriving soon," he said, looking at Lin Yu with a heavy tone, "They are the Eastern Empire's ace. Once war breaks out, Shen City will surely suffer."
His gaze was full of "concern for the nation and the people": "These years Great Dry has finally shown some progress, it must not be ruined here!"
Speaking, he shook his head again and sighed, "Director Lin, Director Lin, why must you do this?"
But seeing Lin Yu's icy stare, he instantly changed tack, "Fine, the situation has progressed to this point; there's no turning back now."
"I, this old man, will take my leave now," he said, standing and brushing the blood off his coat.
"But Director Lin, rest assured," his tone suddenly hardened, "No matter what, as Security Commander I will not let the Ninth Division run amok in Shen City!"
Having said that, he gave Lin Yu a deep look, then turned and walked out the door.
On the surface, he appears as a worried, good‑natured old man.
In reality, his mind is quietly scheming.
This move, played so cleverly!
Click. The lighter's snap rang sharply in the dead silent room, its flame illuminating Lin Yu's cold face.
He lit a three‑cannon cigarette, took a deep drag, the smoke swirling in the blood‑laden air. Just as Qin Dong Zhi was about to reach the doorway, several elite agents of the Fourth Bureau suddenly blocked his path, their dark muzzles flashing cold light.
"What…?" Qin Dong Zhi turned, a puzzled expression on his face, his eyes flickering, "Director Lin, what does this mean?"
Amid the swirling smoke, Lin Yu's smile was especially cold. He stared at the old fox's feigned‑confused expression, a sneer in his heart.
"Commander Qin," he exhaled a thin ring of smoke, the vapor spiraling in the air, "Your performance is quite good."
Qin Dong Zhi felt a shock inside, yet his face still wore confusion, "Director Lin, what does this mean? I can't understand."
"What are you pretending?" Lin Yu sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "Did you think I didn't know what scheme you're plotting?"
"Old yet undying is a thief," he said, standing, his leather shoes making faint sounds in the blood, stepping toward Qin Dong Zhi, "This saying fits you perfectly."
Qin Dong Zhi's complexion finally changed, fine beads of sweat beading on his forehead. He hadn't expected Lin Yu to see through his meticulously crafted plot so clearly.
"You deliberately lured Wu Teng Qianqiu here," Lin Yu continued, his gaze as sharp as a blade, "Just to watch Lin Yu and the Easterners turn on each other so you could profit. Over the years in Shen City, you haven't shied away from such tricks, have you?"
"I…" Qin Dong Zhi's voice trembled; he felt as if a poisonous snake had fixed its gaze on its prey.
"Don't deny it," Lin Yu cut him off, "You old fox, after years of manipulating power, did you really think no one could see through you?"
He stepped in front of Qin Dong Zhi, exhaled a thin wisp of smoke, causing the old fox to cough repeatedly, "Do you think I'll let you have your way?"
Qin Dong Zhi's forehead was already covered in cold sweat. He never expected that his own calculations would be seen through so thoroughly by Lin Yu. This young man is not only crazy, but even more terrifying than he imagined!
Although Qin Dong Zhi's forehead was sweating coldly, his inner self was unusually calm. He has been around Shen City for so many years, what big winds and waves has he not seen?
This is merely the young man's show of force upon dismounting.
He sneered in his heart, Lin Yu, no matter how arrogant, is merely an inspector. He himself is truly the Security Commander of Shen City, holding heavy troops, with deep roots.
Even if Lin Yu really goes crazy enough to dare kill Wu Teng Qiu, he still wouldn't dare act rashly against himself.
"Lin Yu," Qin Dong Zhi wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, his tone no longer as polite as before, "What do you want to say? Just say it."
He was thinking in his heart, it's nothing more than a warning. Once the wind passes, there will be plenty of opportunities to deal with this brat who doesn't know the height of heaven and depth of earth.
After all, he is not an outsider like Wu Teng Qiu. In Shen City, no one dares to move against him, the Security Commander.
Even the court has to give him some face.
No matter how capable Lin Yu is, he's merely an outside inspector. Without his cooperation, he can't move an inch in Shen City.
Thinking this, Qin Dong Zhi's confidence grew even stronger. He even revealed a hint of disdainful sneer.
This young man is still too immature.
He thinks that by killing a Japanese envoy he can show off his might in front of me?
He really doesn't know how deep the waters of Shen City are.
"How so?" Qin Dong Zhi said coldly, "Inspector Sir, are you trying to give this old man a lesson?"
His tone carried mockery, as if saying: Do you have the guts?
