Chapter 207: The Attacking Northern Tribes
With a "Boom," a massive Danger Beast collapsed before Lingyun. Esdeath clapped her hands and said, "Lingyun, the mission is complete!"
Lingyun looked at the Danger Beast that had fallen before him and nodded slightly: "It seems your strength has now reached a sufficiently high level; ordinary training plans are no longer effective for you!"
"Then what shall we do next?" Esdeath asked.
"As for what's next..." Lingyun was about to speak when he suddenly turned his head to look into the distance.
In his perception, many unknown auras had appeared in the north, and these auras were also laden with a very strong scent of blood.
"Esdeath, wait here for a moment, I'll be right back!" Lingyun said to Esdeath beside him, then his figure instantly turned into a streak of light and sped off toward the north.
Esdeath watched Lingyun's departing figure, her pupils slightly constricted. She had always thought her strength was not far from Lingyun's, but this move of his clearly told her that she was still a long way from catching up to him!
"Do you really think I would obediently stay where I am?" A smile curled at the corner of Esdeath's mouth, and she then charged in the direction Lingyun had left.
"Calculating the time, it should be about time for the Barutusu Tribe to be wiped out!" Lingyun's figure was like the wind as he quickly climbed a small hill. "Could the ones coming be the Northern Tribes heading south?"
During this time, he had also inquired about the Northern Tribes from the chief of the Barutusu Tribe. As a reward for Lingyun teaching the brats in his tribe, the chief naturally told him everything he wanted to know.
From the Barutusu Tribe chief, Lingyun learned that the Northern Tribes had always been a major threat to the Empire. The Empire had thought about eliminating this border force, but these guys were exceptionally cunning; after invading the Empire and looting extensively, they would retreat back to their own territory. And the places plundered by the Northern Tribes were always left flowing with blood, in a truly tragic state.
Upon hearing Lingyun mention the Northern Tribes, the Barutusu Tribe chief also grew more vigilant; after all, the land where their tribe was located was right within the looting range of the Northern Tribes. More importantly, it was already the time for the Northern Tribes to head south to loot. If the Northern Tribes' Army arrived here, their small tribe would absolutely not be able to stop them.
Standing on the hill, Lingyun gazed into the distance, where a large group of people appeared. These people were all riding horses and holding weapons, looking just like an Army. But in Lingyun's eyes, this troop was no different from bandits; even from far away, Lingyun could see countless wailing vengeful spirits hovering above that Army.
As the Army drew closer, Lingyun also saw their banners clearly: "So it really is the Northern Tribes?"
Lingyun's eyes narrowed slightly. However, just this troop alone would absolutely be unable to wipe out the entire Barutusu Tribe. After all, the Barutusu Tribe was a race that made a living by hunting Danger Beasts, and the combat power of the warriors in the tribe was top-notch. In other words, was this troop just a vanguard? If just a vanguard had so many vengeful spirits, then one could imagine what their main force was like.
Just as Lingyun was pondering something, Esdeath also ran to his side. When she saw the Army in the distance, her expression also changed slightly. Although she could not see the vengeful spirits like Lingyun, she still felt the immense murderous intent on this Army.
"Esdeath, go back immediately and tell your father that the Northern Tribes' Army is attacking!" Lingyun said.
"What about you?" Esdeath asked.
"Me? I'm going to properly entertain this vanguard, of course!" A smile curled at the corner of Lingyun's mouth. Auras that made Esdeath's hair stand on end slowly rose from his body, as if a sleeping dragon had opened its eyes and revealed its ferocious claws and fangs.
Esdeath looked at the Northern Tribes' troop in the distance, then at Lingyun beside her. She did not say anything like "I want to stay and fight the enemy with you," but instead turned quickly and charged toward the direction of the tribe. The unfathomable aura on Lingyun made her understand that if she stayed here now, she would be nothing but a burden.
Watching Esdeath's departing figure, a curve appeared at the corner of Lingyun's mouth: "Well, now let me use you all to test my current strength!"
Iron hooves thundered, trampling the ice as they continuously closed in on Lingyun's direction.
"Captain, there's someone ahead!" one of the big men said.
"Someone?" The man in the lead looked forward and happened to see Lingyun standing on the small hill. "He looks like just a wet-behind-the-ears kid. The whole army, form up! We'll charge straight over and trample him into meat paste!"
Hearing the lead man's words, everyone present became excited. Making a living by looting, the thing they loved most was doing all sorts of bloody things like this. Trampling a person into meat paste alive—what an exciting thing that was!
Watching the cavalry charging toward him with a roar, a cold glint flashed in Lingyun's eyes. Although he couldn't hear what they were saying because of the distance, judging by their posture, it clearly wasn't anything good.
Facing the aggressive cavalry, Lingyun slowly raised his hand and pointed remotely at the ice surface. Beneath this stretch of ice was a massive lake, and Lingyun often practiced in this place. Although the surface of the lake was frozen due to the season, Lingyun's power had permeated every corner of the ice.
"Boom, boom, boom!" Under Lingyun's point, the Source Power that had permeated the ice instantly erupted. The originally solid ice shattered inch by inch and burst apart completely; lake water surged up from the ice holes, forming a water curtain that blotted out the sky.
The cavalrymen who were charging forward had not expected such a situation at all. The moment the ice shattered, they fell into chaos, and quite a few people fell directly into the ice holes. The cavalry in the back saw this and wanted to rein in their horses, but on one hand, the ice was too slippery, and on the other, the cavalry further back did not know what was happening in front and crashed directly into them, pushing them into the ice holes.
With just one move, Lingyun threw the Northern Tribes' cavalry formation into disarray. The lead man's expression was very ugly; after roaring loudly for a while, he finally reorganized the formation and charged toward Lingyun's direction again.
Lingyun watched the cavalry charging toward him and raised his hand once more. A white Long sword appeared in his hand, and then he charged toward the cavalry formation. Lingyun's speed was extremely fast, and he reached the front of the formation in an instant.
"Get out of my way!" A burst of white light erupted violently from the Long sword in Lingyun's hand. Powerful Sword Qi swept out, blasting the several cavalrymen at the very front away all at once. Afterward, his figure was like a sharp blade, plunging straight into the formation.
"Kill!" The Long sword in Lingyun's hand danced, hacking several cavalrymen near him off their horses. The white Sword Qi extending from his Long sword was incomparably sharp; whether it was the weapons, armor, or bodies of these knights, he could slice them in two with a single strike.
Lingyun slaughtered wantonly in the formation. The man in the lead saw this scene, and his eyes turned red. These were all his own soldiers, and now they were being hacked to death so wantonly—how could it not make his heart ache!
"Everyone, listen to my orders! Surround him, all of you! I want to hack him into meat paste!" the man roared loudly.
With the captain's order, the surrounding cavalry swarmed up, their weapons hacking wildly at Lingyun. The Long sword in Lingyun's hand danced like the wind, forming a dense web that protected his entire body, actually making it impossible for these cavalrymen to harm him in the slightest. For a time, the battle fell into a stalemate.
