Chapter 514: Sorry, Jade Emperor!
Heavenly Court, Jade Emperor Palace.
"Holy Monk, His Majesty is waiting for you inside. This minor immortal shall not enter," the immortal official said with a bow, his attitude respectful.
"Many thanks," Xuanzang said.
He then surveyed this Jade Emperor Palace; he had expected to go to the High Heaven Palace, but he had not expected to arrive here instead.
The Jade Emperor Palace was clearly the immortal residence where the Jade Emperor lived.
Viewed from the outside, it was a massive, magnificent palace—calling it breathtaking would not be an exaggeration—constantly emitting a golden, auspicious light.
Stepping into the Jade Emperor Palace, what met his eyes was a golden boulevard; the ground was paved with golden bricks, appearing extremely luxurious.
All around were imposing Coiling Dragon Pillars, murals of ancient Phoenixes and Qilins, and even the oil lamps on the walls were extraordinary magical treasures.
And at the end of the golden boulevard, the Jade Emperor sat upon the Imperial Throne, his presence imposing and majestic.
Of course, no matter how strong the Jade Emperor's aura was, to Xuanzang, it was as light as a breeze.
"Greetings, Jade Emperor," Xuanzang said.
"Holy Monk, this should be our first time meeting, right?"
Golden light flickered on the Jade Emperor's body, and with a Teleportation, he arrived before Xuanzang.
Xuanzang's expression was calm; he did not let himself reveal even the slightest flaw.
After all, he had just come out of Yaochi and had even practiced the Unity of Heaven and Man with Wangmu Niangniang.
"It should be. I wonder for what matter the Jade Emperor wishes to see me?" Xuanzang said.
"Naturally, it is about the Scripture Seeking. Xuanzang, you say you aren't properly seeking the scriptures, so why have you run to the Heavenly Court?" the Jade Emperor said, seemingly with a hint of reproach.
Upon hearing this, Xuanzang realized it did not seem to be about Wangmu Niangniang, so he said: "Your Majesty, the journey west is long and the road is far, and the time is vast. In this long life, there is more to it than just seeking scriptures; Scripture Seeking also requires a balance of work and rest.
Like Wukong, who was pressed under the Five Elements Mountain for so long; the moment he came out, he went to seek the scriptures without even having time to see his monkey descendants, lacking all freedom.
Is this not very unreasonable, Jade Emperor?"
"It is indeed very unreasonable," the Jade Emperor nodded.
"So, that is how it is with Scripture Seeking. Jade Emperor, you should also appropriately give the immortals of the Heavenly Court some time off to go down to the mortal realm for experience. In this day and age, it is not easy for workers; we must have empathy!" Xuanzang said.
Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor's expression changed.
Now it was Xuanzang who was turning the tables to lecture him, so the Jade Emperor said:
"Xuanzang, are you teaching this Venerable One how to do things?"
"Guess," Xuanzang said calmly.
"..."
The Jade Emperor shot a look of annoyance at Xuanzang; he truly did not know what Wangmu Niangniang saw in him.
But one must admit, he was indeed very handsome—only a little bit inferior to himself.
"Jade Emperor, you called me here; it wouldn't just be to talk about this Scripture Seeking matter, would it?" Xuanzang continued.
The Jade Emperor paced to and fro, saying:
"Of course not. Although this Venerable One is the Lord of the Three Realms and the Jade Emperor. Come, Xuanzang, accompany this Venerable One for a few drinks."
"..." Xuanzang.
This time it was Xuanzang's turn to be silent; so it turned out that coming to the Heavenly Court was just to drink?
First he drank with Nezha and Yang Jian, then he drank with Wangmu Niangniang, and now he was drinking with the Jade Emperor—who would it be next?
The Jade Emperor waved his hand, and a wine table with fine wine, along with Dragon Liver, Phoenix Gall, Spirit Fruit, and delicacies, appeared.
"Your Majesty, is this Dragon Liver from the dragons of the Four Seas?" Xuanzang asked.
The Jade Emperor shook his head and said with a straight face:
"Of course not. These Four Seas Dragon Kings are all good friends and fellow Daoists of this Venerable One. How could this Venerable One eat their dragon children and grandchildren?
But dragon meat is indeed a delicacy of the Three Realms. Although it is said that immortals are free of desires, that is all hearsay.
This Venerable One still has some cravings for food. I simply built a Dragon Transformation Pool in the Heavenly Court; any aquatic creature that enters it can transform into a True Dragon.
Of course, the higher the cultivation of the aquatic creature, the more delicious the True Dragon it transforms into."
"I remember that the West also seems to have a Dragon Transformation Pool, and that Tathagata Buddha's uncle, the Great Peng Bird, eats five hundred dragons every day," Xuanzang said.
"That's right, it's the same principle."
The Jade Emperor laughed and picked up a piece of Dragon Liver; it melted in his mouth, fragrant and delicious.
Xuanzang also picked up a piece of Dragon Liver to taste, and at the same time said: "One can already attain immortality by becoming an immortal; if one is still free of desires while immortal, then being an immortal is meaningless."
"Jade Emperor, you should know about my disciple, Xiaobailong, right?
I heard him say that he lets aquatic creatures touch his urine to make them transform into dragons.
So, what are the ingredients of this Dragon Transformation Pool of yours?"
Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor's face turned a shade of green and red, and he said:
"Xuanzang, how can you compare the Dragon Transformation Pool to such filthy, foul things?"
"Ah... yes, yes, yes, it is my perspective that was too narrow," Xuanzang said.
The Jade Emperor did not want to dwell on the topic of dragons anymore, so he said:
"Xuanzang, can you tell this Venerable One who taught you your divine abilities?"
"Born with great talent, gifted with cheats," Xuanzang said.
"??" The Jade Emperor.
"In short, you realized them yourself?" Xuanzang said.
"Do you take this Jade Emperor for a fool? No master could train someone to be this powerful. You haven't eaten few Golden Cores, have you? And is the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm really that easy to break through to?" the Jade Emperor said.
"It really is that easy. I practiced and practiced and then I broke through. Sigh, how helpless I feel,"
Xuanzang said, while taking a sip of the fine wine; it was silky smooth, and it seemed as if dancing immortals appeared before his eyes.
Hearing this humble-brag, the Jade Emperor truly wanted to slap Xuanzang to death.
The world today is not the Ancient Era; it is not so easy to break through to the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm.
Even Yang Jian, the first among the third-generation disciples of the Chan Sect, has yet to become a Great Luo Golden Immortal, which shows the difficulty of it.
"Xuanzang, is your master Laojun?" the Jade Emperor asked quietly, his voice very low.
"..., why not say it's Rulai? Jade Emperor?" Xuanzang could not help but ask in return.
"Hahaha, that poor wretch Rulai, could he possibly cultivate a Great Luo Golden Immortal in his early twenties?" the Jade Emperor laughed.
"Don't look at how Lingshan has quite a few Great Luo Golden Immortals; those were not piled up with resources, but forged through incense and Faith.
Xuanzang, there isn't a trace of incense or Faith on you; instead, there is more of a Taoism aura.
In the entire Three Realms, only Laojun is capable of piling up a Great Luo Golden Immortal using Golden Core."
The Jade Emperor was all smiles, seemingly feeling that he had seen through everything long ago.
Xuanzang was stunned for half a second, not expecting that in the Jade Emperor's eyes, Rulai was like that—a poor wretch?
Actually, thinking about it carefully, it is indeed the case.
In terms of the richness of family assets, Rulai really cannot compare to the Jade Emperor.
The Jade Emperor's Heavenly Court took over the Demon Court of the Demon Race from back then, and its foundation is deep.
And Rulai's Lingshan Western Sect succeeded the two Saints, Jieyin and Zhun Ti; the Western Sect was originally dirt poor.
The final point is that in order to become Saints, these two Saints borrowed hundreds of millions of Merit from the Heavenly Dao, so for all these years, the Western Sect has actually been paying off the debt to the Heavenly Dao.
It is not without reason that the Jade Emperor calls Rulai a poor wretch.
"Jade Emperor, why don't you just go ask Laojun yourself?" Xuanzang said, neither admitting nor denying it, letting the Jade Emperor fill in the blanks himself.
"What use is it for this Monarch to ask? Laojun speaks in riddles to this Monarch every single day..."
