Chapter 6: Ex-Partner Becomes a Colleague?
The two of them walked forward, one after the other.
Shen Huai's brow furrowed deeper and deeper into a "chuan" shape.
"Aren't you going to work? Why are you following me?"
Finally, Shen Huai stopped in his tracks, turned around, and looked at Su Meng to ask.
Upon hearing this, Su Meng raised an eyebrow. "Don't flatter yourself; I take this route to work too."
"Really?" Shen Huai looked unconvinced.
"Do I have any reason to lie to you?"
Su Meng's tone was mocking, and she teased as if joking: "Maybe we're even at the same company."
Shen Huai's mouth twitched upon hearing this.
The same company? If that were true, could he even keep working here? He might as well be killed.
Seeing that they were getting closer and closer to Xingyao, Su Meng still showed no sign of leaving.
Shen Huai began to feel that something was wrong.
Not until they walked into the main entrance of Xingyao Media did he watch with his own eyes as Su Meng pulled her employee badge out of her small bag.
The composure Shen Huai had been feigning finally collapsed.
"You work at Xingyao?" Shen Huai looked awkward.
He hadn't expected Su Meng's words to turn into a prophecy.
Su Meng was no fool either.
This entire building belonged to Xingyao Media.
The moment Shen Huai walked through the front door, her inner suspicions were confirmed.
She just hadn't expected that Shen Huai, a mere graduate from a second-tier university, could actually get a job at Xingyao.
"I didn't expect a joke to actually come true."
Su Meng shrugged, pretending to be relaxed.
She had just been spouting nonsense earlier; who could have imagined that running into an ex-boyfriend starting a job at the company would actually become reality?
"…Anyway, I have a lot to do today, so I'm heading off."
At this moment, Su Meng just wanted to slip away quickly.
She had just said "see you if fate allows" five minutes ago, and now look at this.
This "fate" was about to have legal standing.
Fortunately, the Xingyao headquarters was large enough.
So many floors and so many departments.
As long as there wasn't much interaction between departments, it would be hard to see each other even throughout the whole year.
But just as she had taken two steps.
A woman with wavy hair walked over in a hurry and bumped into Su Meng head-on.
"Zhang, Sister Zhang… I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention."
Su Meng was startled and apologized hurriedly.
The woman glanced at Su Meng expressionlessly and replied indifferently: "Next time you walk, remember to watch where you're going. Don't be so flustered."
Shen Huai secretly peeked at the employee badge hanging on the woman's chest.
Zhang Xiaolan, Director of the Human Resources Department.
So she was Su Meng's boss; no wonder her aura was so strong.
Sensing Shen Huai's scrutinizing gaze, Zhang Xiaolan whipped her head around to look at him.
Immediately after, she lowered her eyes to check the documents in her hand and got straight to the point: "You must be Shen Huai, right?"
Upon hearing this.
Shen Huai hurriedly pulled up the smile he had practiced at home, reached out, and bowed slightly: "Hello, I am the new employee here to process my onboarding today, Shen—"
"Su Meng, take the new employee to go over the contract, and while you're at it, show him around Xingyao."
Before she could finish listening to Shen Huai's self-introduction, Zhang Xiaolan had already shoved a stack of documents into Su Meng's hands.
"Huh?"
The two of them cried out in unison.
Zhang Xiaolan frowned slightly: "What is it? Is there a problem?"
"I have a meeting I can't get out of this morning. I should have already taught you how to handle training for new employees, right?"
Zhang Xiaolan looked at Su Meng.
Su Meng's cold aura was completely crushed by Zhang Xiaolan, leaving no room for her to say a word of dissent.
She took the documents with a look of frustration and said in a muffled voice: "I, I have no problem, Sister Zhang."
"Since there's no problem, then don't just stand there. Get moving."
After saying this, Zhang Xiaolan hurried off to her next destination in her high heels.
Su Meng looked at the documents in her hand.
The one on top was Shen Huai's resume.
The two of them exchanged a glance and simultaneously suppressed the awkwardness in their eyes.
Su Meng took a deep breath, her fingers gripping the edge of the paper before she let go.
"Follow me."
Shen Huai rubbed his nose, nodded, and followed.
After walking only a few steps, Su Meng suddenly turned around, leaned close to Shen Huai, and lowered her voice: "Can you keep our past a secret?" Upon hearing this, Shen Huai chuckled: "Don't worry, I've already forgotten the past."
Upon hearing this, Su Meng's eyes darkened slightly.
But on the surface, she still responded with an airy, lighthearted tone: "Is that so? That couldn't be better."
She followed Su Meng to the Personnel Department.
Shen Huai discovered that the workstations at Xingyao were not open-plan cubicles.
Everyone had their own mini-office, only about 2 square meters in size, but they had the advantage of strong privacy.
Shen Huai arrived at the office belonging to Su Meng.
Only then did he discover that her computer was surrounded by various mahjong tiles.
To be precise, an entire row of "Red Dragon" and "Fortune" tiles were laid out.
Even the water cup she used for drinking had the characters "Get Rich" stuck onto it.
Su Meng quickly clicked the mouse to pull up Shen Huai's offer letter.
When she saw the salary column for Shen Huai, her expression changed abruptly.
"Your salary is fifteen thousand???" Su Meng rubbed her eyes and looked again.
It was indeed correct.
At this, she suddenly felt unhappy inside.
She was a graduate of a top 30 international university and had been working at Xingyao for nearly a year, yet her base salary had only just risen to twelve thousand.
Shen Huai was merely a fresh graduate from a second-tier university; how could he be given fifteen thousand right from the start?
Who approved this? Could it be that an extra zero was added to the amount by mistake?
It was simply too unreasonable.
Su Meng moved the mouse with a sullen face and silently clicked on the approval details.
【Approver: Zhang Xiaolan】
Seeing these three characters, the last shred of hope in Su Meng's heart was completely extinguished.
If it were someone else, there might have been a possibility of a recording error.
But she knew Zhang Xiaolan too well.
She was a total perfectionist who could tell at a glance whether the punctuation marks in a contract were English-style or Chinese-style.
How could someone like that possibly approve it incorrectly?
Su Meng looked up at Shen Huai, her gaze unreadable.
"Is there a problem with the contract?" Shen Huai noticed the slight change in Su Meng's attitude and asked in a low voice.
"No problem, it's just that the printing is a bit slow."
Su Meng changed the subject nonchalantly: "The contract is in the corner at the end of the room, could you help me get it?"
"Mm, okay."
Shen Huai left quickly and returned just as fast.
In his hand were three labor contracts.
Sign, stamp.
The labor contract was signed very quickly.
After entering Shen Huai's information into the company system, Su Meng bent down to take a file bag from the drawer and handed it to Shen Huai.
"Inside are the employee handbook, an ID badge, and an unactivated meal card."
"Check the employee handbook for the meal card activation process; now I will take you to familiarize yourself with your workplace, let's go."
Su Meng was like a mechanical Robot, repeating these words she had said who knows how many times without any emotion.
It was just that from beginning to end, she never dared to look up and meet Shen Huai's eyes.
Su Meng led Shen Huai to the headquarters on the first floor and pointed at the floor plan to introduce: "We at Xingyao have a total of ten major departments."
"The first to third floors are the Administrative Department, Human Resources Department, and Legal Department, respectively."
"The fourth to eighth floors are the Marketing Department, Film and Television Production Department, Public Relations Department, Legal Department, and New Media Department, respectively."
"The eleventh to fifteenth floors are entirely the Artist Management Department."
"What about the ninth and tenth floors?" Shen Huai asked.
"The ninth floor is entirely the Canteen, and the tenth floor is the Fitness Area."
After finishing, Su Meng pointed at the floor plan: "The Public Relations Department you belong to is right here, on the 6th floor; I'll take you there now."
"Okay." Shen Huai nodded and followed obediently behind Su Meng.
Along the way, Shen Huai always felt as if someone was gossiping about him behind his back.
And not just one person.
When he turned to look, those gazes would all dodge away.
The elevator door opened, and a group of women swarmed in, quickly filling the elevator.
Su Meng frowned, sighed lightly, and squeezed in on her tiptoes.
Seeing this, Shen Huai could only bite the bullet and force his body in as well.
After entering the elevator, this feeling of being watched not only failed to dissipate but reached its peak.
The moment the elevator door closed.
The eyes of all the women in the elevator instantly fell nakedly upon him.
